I was starting with a smaller job first involving multiple carpentry related items. It's a good way to assess whether I'd use the contractor again for the more complex kitchen and bath. My HOA must approve any contractor before work commences and requires that they be licensed in Chicago, Insured, and bonded. Chicago Partners claims to be so on their website and confirmed that to me in person. IIan was very charming, knowledgeable, and initially quite responsive. His quote was detailed and helpfully assigned a dollar amount per task, as I'd requested. Unfortunately, as another reviewer noted, the proposal included language that would waive and indemnify Chicago Construction for any damage, harm, or injuries etc. that Chicago Construction might cause in the course of their work. I spoke to IIan about this and he said he was a lawyer and wrote it himself. I'm certain he did. I managed a contracts office doing over $300 million in business each year - none of my staff would ever approve a waiver that puts 100% of the risk on the client for harm that a contractor might cause. I asked IIan what was the point of requiring a contractor be bonded and insured was if I was going to waive their responsibility anyway? I told him my association wouldn't approve such a waiver. I asked him to strike the language and also to reduce the tasks in the quote. Unfortunately, I never heard back from him. This was in July. I used another contractor to complete the project and am now taking bids for the bathroom. I will not seek a bid from this company.

Older bathroom-- only so much room to work with and made it look brand new with more space. Just hired them again this past month to redo the siding on my garage. The old siding was a complete eye sore (1960s house) and came in with great ideas for the siding, and wonderful job --- looks like an upgraded brand new garage. These guys are the best. Although he did not have many reviews, the ones he had spoke to the quality of his work, and he also has an A+ rating on the BBB website. From the very start, Oscar communicated in a very timely manner, had an easy-to-understand contract, responded to all of my questions, and showed up when he said he would. He and his son did all of the work, so I didn't have to worry about who would be doing the various aspects of my project. He was extremely respectful of my home, covering all surfaces he would be using (the hallway and up and down the stairs), and then uncovering them and cleaning up before he left. He repeated this process each and every day. They also worked with the bathroom door closed as much as they could, which minimized the dust factor. The project was completed in the time frame he gave me, and there were absolutely no issues. It was the easiest home project I have ever done. He did a great job, and I have already recommended him to others.
