Do not use this company. Last summer, my wife and I had them replace the siding and roof of our house. The work was done promptly and well enough, though the people they contacted to do the work left a bit of a mess. While annoying, if that was all that happened I would not have bothered writing a review.
What happened over the following nine months has been a nightmare of mistakes and harassment from the company. They received the first half of the money my insurance was covering without an issue, but then filled out the required Waiver of Lien incorrectly four or five times. They would often call my wife wondering why the second half of their payment did not yet arrive, which resulted in my wife having to spend a long time calling the insurance and mortgages companies. Often, the customer service on that end could not provide an immediate answer and we would have to wait for them to reach out to us once they knew why the money wasn't being sent to New Home Exterior Construction. Throughout these periods of waiting, New Home would call my wife again and again, even though they were told that they would be contacted as soon as we got an answer. Every single time, the answer was that the office manager at New Home had filled out the Waiver of Lien incorrectly and needed to send a correct one. After a few of times of my wife having to tell them that they had filled out the paperwork incorrectly yet again, the office manager had threatened her with a lawsuit if we did not either find a way to get them the second half of the insurance check or pay them the amount (over $10,000) ourselves. At that point, my wife decided I was the one to talk to them instead.
At this point our mortgage had changed to a different company. This resulted in an additional hassle of waiting until they had record of the insurance claim and then verifying that the check had transferred to them as well. This is the only thing New Home Exterior Construction was not directly responsible for, but during this time they were again in frequent contact with me, asking if I knew anything yet even though I had told them that I was still waiting to hear back from the new mortgage company. Finally I learned that New Home had again filled out the Waiver of Lien incorrectly. I asked the mortgage rep what needed to be done for it to be correct and for yet another blank waiver. They mailed it to me, and I contacted New Home to inform them that they had messed up again with the paperwork, but that I now knew how to do that aspect of their job correctly. What followed was a series of denials, excuses, accusations that my wife and I were the ones at fault for drawing what should have been the easiest portion of this process out, and nothing resembling an apology. The office manager did not want to send someone to pick up the waiver since they would not be able to fill it out themselves anyway and that I should instead pay the postage to mail the form to them. Eventually they did send someone to get the paperwork, although that person also denied that the company did anything wrong and insisted this was some innocent misunderstanding.
While insurance covered the majority of the cost, we were also responsible for around $1,500, to be made in four payments. The office manager had misplaced records of us making two of these payments and tried to have us pay them again.
At no point was anything close to an acknowledgement of their several mistakes or an apology issued. The closest they came was a series of text messages from the office manager, which said they were sorry I was mad, even though they "did a good job and you have a brand new roof." The texts also said that it was unfortunate that the new roof did not make me happy. When I explained that the roof wasn't remotely my problem, there was just more denials and a sad tale about how they put their own money in the supplies and cost of labor for my siding and roof, and have been waiting for their money for a long time.
Do not use New Homes Exterior Construction for your needs. Although they are unfortunately my only experience in dealing with construction on my house, I have to hope that there are other companies better capable at handling the various responsibilities that come with both repairing someone's house and correctly handling paperwork. read more
