I had high hopes for this place due to the reviews, look the food is great specially the beef garnachas, the pupusas are okay, the red salsa was great. They have a good selection of Guatemalan sodas. The place definitely needs caring, and love from their owners. Any restaurant which starts with "A Tit" is always going to be amazing, like Barbie's D Tits, or rather, her formerly D and now G or H or whatever, ask her, I'm not even sure. Absolutely spectacular Guatemalan restaurant which thrilled us with every bite. They really know how to make their food and they make it expertly and Incredibly. Easily one of the best Latin restaurants in the whole Houston area. We love this kind of food and there's not a lot of it around here. Plenty of Mexican restaurants but not a whole lot of Guatemalan and Honduran. This is one of the very best - if not be best - of the Central American restaurants in the Houston area. You really can't get much better than this. Of course everyone was checking out my sexy Barbie and they all had a good evening watching her eat while she was devouring this deliciousness with me. I think they wanted to devour her deliciousness. I think we ordered one of everything on the menu. Absolutely everything we ordered was fantastic. Would I go back here again? Are you kidding me? I write this with a smile. You know those hole in the wall restaurants that people rave about? This is one of them. I was looking for a place to eat after getting my book at the Half-Price a few stores down. I've been wanting to try this place out. My friend finally decided we should take a chance on this place. I'm soooo glad we did. I was a little hesitant when I walked in. I mean, there is little to this place: seating and a counter, with two TV's. I mean, seriously. The first thing that came to mind was, "oh my they're laundering money and I'm about to die." Luckily that didn't happen. They host from the counter on the opposite side of the place gestured us to have a seat somewhere. He gave us our menus. It was all in Spanish. I knew right then we had something legit here. Maybe it was the blank stares on our face that he knew we didn't speak spanish, but he whipped out his phone and began to show us pictures of their food with their respective order numbers on the menus. Food: we ordered ourselves some tostada type appetizer (I'm sorry I don't know what it was called), carne asade, chicken tamale, and pork tacos with their housemade tacos. I need to let you know... This food though... This right here... Was the real deal. It was ALLL good. AALLL good. Legit Guatemalan food. My god. my tamale was HUGE. I'm glad I ordered one. there was a whole chicken wing in the middle, but the bones slips right out. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, mouthwatering. I was in my happy place. The meat in my pork tacos were tender. My friend said her carne asade was the best she ever had. Those tostada like appetizers, the meat was sooo good. Topped with shredded radishes, cilantro, grated queso... I can't speak highly enough. The cooks take so much pride in the food they cook. We complimented our server (who was also the host) he was very thankful and gracious. And the prices were very very reasonable. The spicy yellow sauce they gave me to top my tacos... I wish I could bottle that up to go. Overall if you want legit authentic Guatemalan food, come here. PLEASE STOP AND READ We went to this restaurant yesterday for lunch, We ordered several items from the menu (we had been to this place several times before); however yesterday was horrible. The food was disgusting, they could careless about how disappointed we were with our meals. To top this, when we requested our check, nothing added up. The prices of every meal was different from the ones on the menu. We complained and the server did nothing about it. We were so upset about this that we just left the money and left. The first time I went in there, about a year ago, it was great. The second time I brought a friend and was slightly disappointed but I still returned a third time... And found nobody speaks English! I arrived about three in the afternoon, and found only one clean table in the entire place. The crowd that apparently had rushed through there prior to my arrival was long gone, but the staff was making absolutely no effort to clear any of the tables. First experience trying Guatemalan food. Staff is friendly, place was dirty, I know each Latin culture has a certain way of making tamales and I have had many. Never before have I had one with a complete chicken wing with bone and all inside. It had no flavor whatsoever very bland. My husband ordered popussas one chicken and one chicharrón. Got the garnachas, a tostada-y thing on puffy, crisp tortillas, with amazingly savory-spiced ground meat, tomato salsa, cabbage (no, really!) and other-stuff topping. "Banned for life" Went here for the first time today. Was happy to see that my wife and I were the only white people here. You just know it's going to be good. The host asked us to wait for them to clean a table and promptly left us standing for about 5 minutes without a peep. After staring at a dirty table for too long, my wife and I left without getting served. At best, this place is run by lazy, unprofessional people. At worst, these people are racists that refuse to serve white people. Either way, Atitlan Guatemalan Restaurant is on my "banned for life" list. Omg..what a delightful place to eat authentic guatemalan food!!! I read previous reviews and wanted to try it myself. We got the mini nachos - don't ask me what the name of them are but it was a mini fried corn tortilla (gordita) with a ground meat topping and cabbage. There was also a salted light white grated cheese and spices. It was very tasty. I proceeded their version of Mexican mole. It consisted with a mixture of oh and they asked if I wanted dark or breast meat. I'm a fan of dark - has much more flavor. Anyhow it had a nice piece of thigh and leg, jicama, onions and the sauce piping hot. 3 gordita type tortillas came with it as well as rice. My man got the torta which was huge. We wound up eating only 1/2 the meal and taking the rest home. This meal with 2 drinks was $25. I'll be back for more. read more

I am sad to report that I will not be returning here despite the food being extremely good. I had an incident where the waitress overcharged by CC by 8$. I returned after a few days to see what was going on. She refused to give me the owners phones number and said to come back when the owner was there. I know the owner is a great guy and he takes care of his customers, but he should train his employees better to handle issues like this. I had to show my bank statement to her and put a little pressure to get my $8 back. Folks, save your CC receipt or just pay cash. My review has only reflected about this incident. Went around 5 on a Wednesday and there weren't many people there which is weird because this place has some of the best tacos I've had. I might be a "Tennessee Boy" but these tacos smack. The menu is mostly pictures with no descriptions but our very friendly server made some great suggestions. Garnachas had amazing texture & flavor. I would make a meal out of these alone. Hubby ordered the Pulled Beef in Tomato Sauce. It was tender & the sauce was scrumptious. We thoroughly enjoyed the Carne Asada as well. The main reason for 3 stars was the service. The food was good, our first time having Guatemalan food. The service however was not great. There were only 2 other tables eating and our server was on his cell phone the whole time. Seems like this was the reason on a Friday night and there were only 3 tables with people eating. I've been on a procrastination review vacation but it's time to get back on it. I had an interesting experience at this self proclaimed Guatemalan food spot. I ordered 3 street tacos and 1 Torta to go. There was only one other couple sitting down eating in there while I was waiting on my food. The name of this particular video is BEST STREET TACOS IN HOUSTON? STREET TACO WARS. Ok enough with the plugging. I ate the pork and the steak taco first and was pleasantly satisfied with both. The only thing that threw me off was the street taco have what appear to be a flat bread instead of a corn tortilla. I've never seen this before. Maybe it's a Guatemalan thing but I don't think so. Are there better street tacos in the area? Yes. They are still good solid tasting street tacos. They come with the standard lime to make it rain on them. The onions were grilled which was a nice touch. Moving on to the Torta. I have to be honest with you on this one. This might be the first Torta I've ever tried so take this part of the review with some skepticism. The best was I can describe it is by calling it a Mexican sandwich. It wats really good guys! The bread had a nice toast to it and the lettuce and onions had a nice crunch. I thought the steak meat was flavored nicely. My only knock on it would be the refried beans on it tasted bland. Ok so you are probably asking yourself how and the heck does this translate to a 2 star review. Well, I haven't tried the chicken soft taco yet. This is where things go horribly afoul. Actually the chicken street taco smelled foul and tasted foul. This was the worst street taco I've had in my entire life. If you watch my Youtube video you will see my utter confusement. Ok I may have made that word up but I'm rolling with it. I couldn't figure out what kind of meat I bit into. It definitely didn't taste like chicken. I'm 90% sure they served me spoiled chicken. This is about as authentic as Guatemalan food gets. Their individual gorditas and chuchitos are given in generous portions at very low cost ($2-3 a piece), but could come with a bit more meat. Nice twist on Latin American meals, it's not all Mexican. Here you can surely find your typical Mexican or Tex-Mex, but also some more typical dishes from Guatemala. We tried Garnachas, Dobladas and Chuchitos and very were all pretty good! It is a place with a pretty laid back atmosphere, you'll get your napkin from a roll of paper towels sitting on the table! They don't serve alcohol but it is BYOB and there is a liquor store conveniently located next door. The staff is very friendly and, lastly, it is really cheap. Great little place, a little on the down low, but I think that makes it even a little more special. Very authentic. Although the menu was completely in Spanish (I personally think it makes it all the better), the waiter was more than happy to answer questions and explain what things were, as well as was very accommodating. The menu is written 100% in Spanish, but don't let that intimidate you, because the owner will enthusiastically answer all your questions and help you select your food.
