Using a strange looking camera on a probe to "paint" my teeth, Dr. Jared Reid stitched a perfect 3D picture of both the upper and lower teeth. This took many minutes but you get to see a 3D color rendering of your teeth after. As it turns out, the photo is an absolutely accurate rendering and the measurements for your new crown will be made from it automatically by the dedicated computer. Dr. Reid cut the existing crown in half and then removed it. The stuff that you expect happened next ... he used high speed drills to remove the decay from the remaining healthy tooth. Just like as if you were about to get a filling. That was the only familiar part of this. After the decay was completely removed more pictures from the fabulous "wand-camera." This time it recorded the surface where the crown would be seated. That's when we got into really high tech land! Using those scans of my teeth, the computer models a 3D crown that will on the outside, match the old crown and on the inside fit exactly on the remaining healthy tooth. Once rendered, he sends the computer file to their in house CNC router. It is a wonder to behold. A piece of porcelain about 1 cm square is held by metal post and it turns as well as going up and down while being "attacked" on two sides by two, high speed, water cooled diamond bits. It took about ten minutes and out pops this perfect porcelain crown that just needed to be cemented in. Perfect! This is long but a few more lines here. What didn't happen! No mouth full of plaster-like gunk for many minutes to make an impression of your mouth. No temporary crown while you wait for the "real" one to come in in about two weeks. No wait! Also, one shot of novocaine only and it was totally pain free. Plus Jared is just a great guy. If you are looking for a dentist, I can't recommend Sugarloaf Dental in any higher.

After several appointments, they were unable to remove the abutment (which is fine - they just weren't equipped to handle my specific issue, which isn't anyone's fault). At the end of my most recent appointment, the dentist said that he would need to talk to the surgeon that originally put the implant in. I gave him the surgeon's phone number and he promised to call her that day. Two weeks passed and I heard nothing from him or his office - I called to check in several times and each time was told that the dentist was out and they would get a message to him. I eventually got a call back saying that he just got off the phone with my surgeon and he wouldn't be able to remove the abutment, but that he would refer me to a specialist. Another week goes by...and once again I hear nothing from them. I was finally able to get the referral I needed by calling into the office again and asking for it. It's just frustrating - I feel like they never would have followed up without me hounding them.

Today, I had an unavoidable situation--my kids' babysitter had to cancel last minute. I immediately called Gentle Dental first thing in the morning to reschedule. Their response? "We can reschedule, but there's a $50 fee." Seriously? What is this--1985? I'm already paying premium prices for care, and now I'm hit with a penalty for a genuine emergency? No flexibility, no understanding, no effort to retain a loyal customer. My family has brought them plenty of business, and this is how we're treated? When did customer retention stop being a priority? When did we normalize this kind of price gouging and corporate coldness? Shame on any business that thinks this is acceptable--especially in healthcare. Rescheduling still brings them business, just not my business after today! Gentle Dental, you've lost a loyal customer. I refuse to be treated like this! FYI! My appointment was for 4pm... I called at 9:30.. that's plenty of time to fill the void!

I had just been to another dental clinic in Leominster, where I was seen by a young dentist who spent more time looking at x-rays of my teeth than actually looking in my mouth, then told me I needed 4 teeth extracted immediately, or I might risk the chance of sepsis from an infection in one of the teeth. I went to Dr. Cronin for a second opinion. He listened to my story of what had happened, looked at the same set of x-rays and examined my mouth, telling me that, "Yes, some of these teeth may need to come out, but not now." We proceeded on that basis. Some of those teeth have had to come out, but both the process and the cost were far more agreeable. And speaking of agreeable, Dr. Cronin is simply a very nice guy. Dr. Cronin now is semi-retired and I am seen by Dr. Dani, who is probably the most relaxed dentist I've ever seen. At the end of my first session with him, we fist-bumped--it came out of nowhere, feeling completely natural. Both Dr. Dani and Dr. Cronin actually listen to a patient and try to do what a patient wants; and the cost is reasonable. I do not have dental insurance and they lower the cost accordingly. All in all--A+
