I'm a fitness and wellness junkie who loves trying new ways to move my body. I've recently been…read morecurious about pilates and decided to take my first class at Impact Group Fitness in Fort Lee. I stumbled upon the studio on the ClassPass app. They're a one stop shop for HIIT, sculpt, and strength classes. They offer two different formats - low impact (sculpt, barre, pilates, yoga) and high impact (dance, strength, circuits, HIIT). I signed up for the 45 minute Mat Pilates class with Cassidy on a Tuesday night. They're located on a busy street, so you'll have to find metered parking. Upon walking in I was greeted by the warm receptionist. I signed a waiver and she gave me a tour. The studio is pretty small. It's squeaky clean, bright, and minimalistic. There's a "lobby"/waiting area with a merchandise display. They have changing rooms, a bathroom, coat hooks, and free lockers. They only have one group fitness room with a large mirror and barre. All of the equipment for the mat pilates class was already provided to us (mat, ankle weights, magic circle, and dumbbells). I like that the class sizes are small because I prefer a more intimate experience. There were about 12-15 of us. The instructor, Cassidy, started and ended the class right on time. Let me just say this. THIS WORKOUT HUMBLED ME. I consider myself to be a fairly fit individual, but this was a humbling experience. The workout was split into core, back, upper, and lower body with different exercises for each section. It was low impact with HIGH intensity and lots of reps. We focused on form, functional movement, and mind to muscle connection. Pilates has a big emphasis on targeting deep, stabilizing muscles through using precise movements. I was huffing and puffing LOL... I FELT THE BURN!!! My core stability, flexibility, and endurance was PUT TO WORKKKK. Definitely a challenge, but fun at the same time. Cassidy was encouraging and welcoming the entire time. There were women of all different shapes, sizes, and fitness levels. We didn't feel any pressure. She gave us modifications and corrections when needed. My only critique is that she could've paused and demonstrated each exercise before we started. She jumped right in after each set and it was a little hard to see her since I was in the far left corner. I also would've liked a little introduction to the class format before we began (especially for first timers), but that's just me being big on education lol. They have monthly memberships, class packs, and drop in rates. I'll be trying a few more classes through ClassPass and I may consider getting a membership afterwards. Should you try pilates? DUH. And for those who think it "looks or sounds easy".... OH PLEASE!!! Try it out for yourself. I absolutely think it's a workout that will be rewarding and challenging for everyone.

It was definitely challenging but she also gives you modifications and demos each workout before you do it. I felt the support and great energy from the staff here and other members. I'm excited to take more classes! I love how modern the decor is and the clean, bright space is very inviting. Parking isn't an issue and the establishment is located in the heart of Fort Lee.

This is THE BEST GYM EVER. Check my photo / video why…read more Okay, so I haven't gone to the gym in a LONG time because I'm picky about the coaches, the classes, the energy of the group I work out with. It's a whole thing. I'm easily discouraged if one thing doesn't feel right. It turns out, that what's going to make me keep coming back to a gym, is its community. I checked out a few gyms in the area, tried taking classes through ClassPass, from rowing to pilates to yoga, spanning from Englewood to Secaucus. I have searched far and wide, and finally found CrossFit ECF in West New York end of last year. They don't spam you with calls, and they're just invested in your commitment to growth. That's what stood out from their website, and believe me when I tell you it's true in real life. I signed up for Fundamentals, which is required so you have an understanding of basic movements you'll constantly keep developing as you progress in your workouts. Their pricing actually encourages you to commit for a year, and it's not punitive if you cancel before, you just have to pay the difference of what you would have paid if you were on a MTM, or 6 month commitment. Basically, it's a no-brainer to sign up and commit to 1 year of membership. What I like about their workouts is that you're building up strength to be able to use your body more dynamically and efficiently in daily life. (Something most people don't consider until they get older.) And yes, I was SCARED of CrossFit too. But they meet you where you're at, and challenge you to build up from where you're at. If you've read this far, come say hi and see you at the gym!

    ### Regarding Physical Therapy…read more I came in July to work on my shoulder. I couldn't do a pull up anymore or a full range pushup without severe discomfort. Previous effort helped normalize the pain, but I didn't make great progress on my own. I started with doubt that I could recover range and ability. Within 2 months of work so far, Taylor has stepped the programming based on his observations of my current ability. Just when I thought I was getting used to the work, he pulled the line. I was able to, as part of the regular programming able to do a pushup off the floor with disbelief. The same goes with a pull up as well. His decades of experience works you, as long as you give it a chance, consistently. ### Regarding Group Fitness Class The daily group classes are in a place of itself. It will introduce you to movements that you may not do well, increase your mobility and cardio fitness. There are many levels of people who participate, all growing together. The programming is well thought out and structured. Highly recommend as I have taken the dive fitting this into my various routines. Since the free trial, I am definitely moving differently compared to the extreme difficulty I had initially. I thought I had some kind of fitness, but this exposed me to challenge me. Living proof! Lets go!
