Haven't had Athern's in a while because we moved still have a house in town so we come back occasionally. The Caesar salad was good, roll was cold with cold butter on it not sure what that was about. The big surprise was the pepperoni pizza it used to be so good it was soggy, weird cheese on the top and no small cup pepperoni which is why we loved and ordered it so much. This pizza doesn't get enough credit. It is sweet & savory and LOADED with toppings. My only complaint is that we ordered a medium pizza and got a small for my teenage son. He was ok with it so I'm not dropping a star. We get Athens a lot & this was a first time for any kind of mistake. We honestly didn't even tell the staff. I've had some really good pizza's here. I like the food and good god I really don't want to go to Domino's... A few months ago my wife and I ordered a pizza and calzone for delivery. We were promised an hour. We'll, after 2 hours we got a call from them apologizing and letting us know that the pizza would arrive soon which it did. Both pizza and calzone were so overcooked it literally was inedible. It was late and I told my wife I'd talk to them tomorrow. Unfortunately, they closed for renovations and it just fell by the wayside. Fast forward to last night... both my wife and I did not feel like cooking and the only place besides Domino's to get delivery was Athens. So, we decided to give them another try. I ordered a pizza and calzone and was promised 40 minutes. After more than an hour the driver showed up and I brought it inside opened the box and to my surprise...both burnt to a crisp! Now I live 5 minutes from Athen's so distance can't be an excuse. I called back and told them the story. I begged them not to make us use Domino's. They were apologetic and promised another pizza and calzone. 15-20 minutes later they arrived. The driver asked if I wanted to check them while she was there. I thought to myself...you couldn't possibly burn another...so I let her go. Boy, I was wrong. Burnt again. At that point it was late and we were pissed off. Both sets went into the garbage. Ok, so what's the moral of the story? Perhaps, they can't get any decent help. It's a common tale among businesses now a days. I have gotten some good food here. I don't want to give up on them but now ordering pizza is a stressful situation. Maybe we should just pick it up in person. Frankly, both of us were into the vino and it wouldn't have been a good idea to be on the road. Do I have to specify not to burn my pizza? I don't think there are many people who like burnt pizza. Well hopefully the owners read this review. I really want to keep ordering from them. But it's not my job to manage they're food. Athens pizzeria made us five pizzas, a mix of standard menu pie's as well as some custom made to order which were all ready in under 20 minutes. The quality is right up there and my family was very pleased for the most part.... WARNING!! We ordered the controversial Ultimate Hawaiian. We were all shocked to discover that glacier cherries had been included as a substitute for pineapple - a detail that absolutely should have been disclosed. However their fried pickles are delicious I am usually not a fan of the fried pickle spears but these were really good. I get that with feta and some black olives it will be a little salty but whoever made it up had no sense of how many salty olives are too many. Food was good. Some things a good value, some a bit expensive. Glad to have stumbled upon this place. Service was slow and they didn't let us know when our food was ready. Gyro was listed under sub, which I thought would be really cool, but I checked with the cashier that it would definitely be a sub, not just a gyro. First, our daughter has loved this place since her very first pizza years ago. While she was studying abroad last year, we sent her photos of bread sticks and pizzas from Athens. She would always say, "why are your torturing me?" When she returned to Maine, the first place she headed was Athens to get her "fix." Secondly, last night we took our Richmond, VA family there; they were astonished we had such amazingly delicious pizza in Thomaston, ME. We ordered mushroom and onion -- the aroma was mouth watering, the presentation beautiful and it was cooked to perfection! We love Athens Pizzeria. Stopped by this restaurant for the first and last time on Sunday afternoon. Two staff behind the counter, and neither person acknowledged us. I asked if we should seat ourselves, and the young girl behind the counter said to sit anywhere we wanted. We waited almost 10 minutes and no one came to our table, so we decided to leave. On the way out, I approached a different guy who appeared to be in the kitchen area. I asked why our waitress didn't come to the table, and he said, "she's talking to someone out back." Probably the best pizza in the area, but make sure to get take out. They haven't quite mastered the restaurant business. It seems the place is run by young kids who never have been trained.
