Athan Downs Park is a well-laid out park with a large playground and basketball court adjacent to the parking lot. The picnic tables, grassy areas and sports field surround the playground. The playground is one of the larger and more elaborate ones, and seems to cater toward the more athletically-inclined kids. Unlike many other parks the play area is not split between Ages 2-5 and 5-12. For example, there's just one location for swing sets with bucket-style seats for little ones and conventional seats for older kids. All the playground structures literally have bells and whistles, since they make sound effects! Their sandbox is a bit smaller than Osage Station Park, which is a downer since sandboxes are cool! Overall a decent and well-maintained park. Other than those spinning chairs and bucket-sear swings, playground is probably a bit too advanced for my 21-month old. He does like to run out to the field and borrow basketballs and other toys. We'll come back when he's a little older and then we can start the American Ninja training, LOL! read more

It's a very nice park for bringing your dog or walking around. There's a kiddie playground, picnic tables, basketball courts, baseball/soccer field and tennis courts. During the soccer/baseball season, this park fill up with a lot of parents in attendance and it will get crowded. If you're lucky, you might catch the Mr. Softee ice cream truck during the Summer! read more

If more parks will like this one we would all spend more time at the park with our kids. Hands down this is my favorite park to take my daughters to. The play area is large, modern, well maintained, and filled with unique interactive elements including jump points on the ground which trigger sounds. The devil is in the details though and Athens Down delivers with rubberized ground, good shade on both the play structure and surrounding area, and even a handicap swing. Leaving the play structure Athens Down does not depart from its well-conceived nature. From multiple large fields, to volleyball, tennis and basketball courts, and even room to ride a bike or skate there is practically something for everyone. It is possible to reserve a time for a party event but you will still want to get there early, have your paperwork, and be prepared to tell someone who may try to set up in your spot that they have to move; because it isn't clearly marked as reserved. read more

After the play area's makeover, this park gets five stars and is one of the better playgrounds in the area for toddlers. They got rid of the sand and now only have one small sand pit for kids (yeah for me). Now the entire area under the play structure is the rubber mat with lots of cushion. The play structure is also huge, with lots of ramps for early walkers, shade, lots of slides, swings and a large variety built in activities. There are even sounds that come out of speakers when kids step on certain images on the rubber mat. This park also has tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, lots if picnic tables, and tons of green space. read more

Beautiful and clean family park. It is definitely a play for all of any age and level of sports depending on what you would want to play.

Great for my 2 year old! Springy ground = tear free falls, no debris for me to pick off her clothes, also seems less burn prone when hot Slides of various heights, with side by side capability so another kid can down or up at the same time (conflicts avoided) Lower steps so she can climb up A friendly swing option and merry go round for kids of all abilities plus two big kid and two littler kid swings Lots of room to run Steering wheels to turn Seats for me both in sun and shade I do wish the gaps between the hand rails on the big play structure were smaller, my kid almost fell thru a few times. This part is where I like to spend my downtime during my workdays. (I drive a work car kind of like an Amazon delivery driver, for the sake of this review review.) anyways, it has ample parking spaces for the facilities and large park area, as well as street parking so that is great! The bathrooms are free to the public and they have always been clean and stocked with amenities. It's a great place to walk around and get some fresh air. Social distancing guidelines are enforced for right now. Highly recommend also do too it's convenient location near highway. read more

Thought we'd give this park a shot since we were in the area. Great park for toddlers! I brought my 1.5 year old son on a hot, sunny day. He loved it but we could only stay for a bit since it was getting hot. Lots of fun things to do with my little guy and I love all the sound effects and musical "instruments" kids can play with. Just a note: beware of snobby people at this park. To the lady who kept moving her kids stuff- no body wants to steal your stuff so stop moving it around and around so that me, my husband, and my 1.5 year old son can't steal it. We don't want it anyways! I was laughing at all the trouble this lady was doing moving her kids scooter things around. Other then that weird experience, this place is ok. We met a few friendly people here and some not so friendly people but I guess that's what you get everywhere?! read more

Athan Downs is a nice little park. It has a sizable playground area for the kiddies, a ball diamond and an open field, basketball and tennis courts, a nice leafy picnic area, modern restrooms, and a snack shack. Gayle and I had a great time with the extended family here today. read more

This is one of the best parks on the 680 Corridor. We have been doing big picnics and BBQs here with our family for years. It has it all: big fields for soccer, baseball diamonds, basketball, tennis, etc. Plus, the City just redid the playground, and the kids LOVE it. It has all the newest design play structures, plus an old style carousel thing where the kids can get it spinning then jump on, and a funny conveyer belt thing. And, it has that springy rubber mat material underneath, to lessen the impact of the inevitable fall! read more

We love this park. Even though it takes us about 20 min. to drive here, we always love to come here and have play dates. The climbing structures are perfect for all ages. It never gets boring and it provides a great opportunity for many open ended activities and play for the children. The big green field right behind the play structure is also great to run and play ball but sometimes there are ppl. who let their dog off leash and play (which I don't understand as this is not a dog park!) .. so gotta watch out for that. Lots of picnic tables in shaded areas but most mommies just sit on the sitting wall and have their snack there. Also another big plus lots of parking space! read more

Wonderful and spacious park for all! We stumbled across this park and brought our 4 year old daughter who thoroughly enjoyed every piece of equipment here. I love the fact that it has the spongy flooring so that kids can run around and if they happen to fall, they are protected. I wish all parks had this feature. Fairly brand new park; I am told it's about 2 yrs old. Nice big trees covering the picnic tables which can be reserved for parties. During our hot summers you will be thankful for these trees. Bathroom and snack stand available. read more

The park itself is great, especially for smaller toddlers since it is a lower playground. We love going here except...it is not diverse at all. You can totally tell there is no diversity, and everyone sticks to their own clique. The parents at parks in Danville (even San Ramon borderline Danville) and Pleasanton are much friendlier and opened to having conversations. They are also much more diverse. read more

What a great park for little ones. The sand area is a little small but the play structures are fantastic for the 2 to 5 year olds. Lots of gentle slopes and small slides. The roller horizontal slide should be avoided until kids are a little older, it can easily pinch fingers. There's a sticker on it saying it's for older children but it's hard to see. There was music playing. It does get quite warm in the sun so consider coming earlier in the day to use the play structures. There are large areas for running around and plenty of parking. Their new play structure is just AWESOME! My kids are 15 month old now and the play structure is perfect for them. Lots of space to run and climb. The play structure has a musica theme and there are plenty of bells, chimes, and drums to play with and explore. The "Sway Fun" is really cool as well. It's a great place to play but they only have 4 courts so if they are unavailable I usually have to drive down to the Cal High courts. The area is very safe, not much goes on around here besides some little league baseball games. Tremendous public space with a relentless grounds crew, almost no blade of grass out of place. Tennis courts, basketball, kids playground, baseball diamonds and at least 8 full size fields.You can take your dog here and run them around the perimeter under the shade of trees, just pick up after them, Only time it's crowded is on weekends with soccer or baseball games. This is a fun little neighborhood park with fields and plenty of play space with fun modern playground equipment. There is a plastic merri-go-round for the munchkins, a swaying contraption which is like a safer version of a seesaw, swings, bars, and lots of slides and climbing structures. There is also a plastic igloo that kids can climb and go inside, one of my 3 year old's favorite. The older kids enjoyed the spinning seats. read more
