Mac-n-cheese, broiled shrimp, broiled salmon, yams, and seafood salad with a cherry Pepsi.

My wife and I stopped in Sunday after church for the buffet. The restaurant has good spacing and parties aren't sitting on top of one another. The restaurant is clean and inviting. It's a hidden gem specializing in Southern Style soul food. It's legit! Marcus and Monica take a lot of pride in the food that they prepare. Also they are focused on the customer experience. Family friendly is the name of the game here. This is my 3rd visit and 1st review. The buffet is only on Sundays and also the restaurant is closed on Mondays I had the buffet, shrimp, salmon, mac-n-cheese, candied yams, chicken thighs which were cut into strips glazed with BBQ sauce, and seafood salad. Everything was delicious. I made 2 passes. One note, the buffet items are placed on your plate by the staff when you come to the serving line. This keeps folks with greedy eyes and small stomachs from putting more on their plates than they can actually eat. Good idea. You can call ahead to place an order for pickup, you can order on line through Door Dash as well. Reservations are suggested if you have a large group of people. Most of the patrons are walking in customers. Cash/Credit/Debit cards are the accepted forms of payment. I didn't see Apple, or Google pay options. If you are craving honest to goodness southern style soulfood and you are in the area, check this spot out! The parking lot is just a few feet from the front door.

Welp can't say I'm surprised because I've read multiple reviews describing the nasty attitude the ladies have here and I guess it was our turn to see it unmasked. Awhile back I got food here for my family. First time visiting the establishment. It was a pretty positive experience. I got my husband the Salmon Caesar salad. Today he called me while out running errands. He said he was going to stop by there and grab another one. He asked me if I wanted anything and I opted to get the same. When he ordered they told him they don't have a Salmon Caesar Salad they just put salmon on a Caesar Salad......mmmmmm ok. They need to update the menu they have online because it definitely says they do and I definitely got him one before. Either way he placed the order at 3:00pm and asked how long it would be. Normal question right? Then he went and waited in the car to handle some business because he was told about 20-25 mins. That time passed, he didn't hear anything by 3:30pm so he went and checked on it. When he walked in he asked about the order and the young lady said it wasn't finished yet, so he asked about how much longer did she think. She said hold on and went in the back. Then instead of her coming back another lady came out and started preparing a bag. She never acknowledged my husband by speaking or nothing just started putting in utensils and then turned her back leaning on the counter. After a minute or two she turns around and asks my husband "have you eaten here before"? So my husband said yeah this is my second time. She said well if you're in a rush it's best to call ahead (we won't be calling at all FYI) because we make our meats fresh. Now here's the thing it's not always the message that's the problem a lot of times it's energy, tone, body language and delivery. My husband said they were just stank from beginning to end but he tried to just ignore it. As soon as he said that I said let me guess it was like a young girl originally and then a lady with red dreads. He said yup how did you know? I said because their energy was just slightly off when I was there but the two men that welcomed us the first time we went over compensated for it. I told my husband I know exactly what happened. The girl went back there and made it seem like more than it was when you were just simply asking because she doesn't want to be there. So the lady already came out with an attitude and worked herself up to respond in the manner she did. When all she had to do was come out, smile and say hello sorry for the wait and address the situation in a friendly professional manner. Then she would have seen there wasn't really an issue to begin with and retained a customer. You literally were just asking. My husband agreed. My husband is actually one of the most passive, non confrontational friendliest people ever unless pushed. We have a great 10+yr relationship with the restaurant owners on the end that have owned multiple restaurants in the area. Plus with many other small businesses owners in the area. My husband talks to everyone who owns a business because we own multiple businesses and he loves to hear and share entrepreneur stories. He actually starts everyone off with an A assuming they are decent humans. So when he came home and said I'll never go there again because them ladies are stank, the energy must of truly been exactly that. So here we have on our second time getting food here, 1. Stank attitudes 2. Despite what the online menu says no Salmon Caesar Salad just Caesar Salad with salmon put on it LOL! 3. No Caesar dressing or croutons despite serving Caesar salad. 4. If you check in on your order after the time given goes by you're considered rushing. No thank you! Side note we are in the media profession as one of our business. We have a huge platform and social media presence. We travel all over the country hosting business professional networking events and conferences for ourselves as well as for others. We have hired countless caterers and venues which are usually BOB's. We try very hard to support our own 1st. I say all of that to say ironically we were actually in the process of contacting a few places about hosting a small local networking event in this area and this was one of the places on our list. I'm glad my husband stopped in today. Lastly because we try to support our own. We don't really do the business blasting on our platform. What I will do is leave a review of my experience in hopes it inspires the business to do better because ultimately only you can be the reason you win or lose.

Beautiful vibe, nice & cozy scene, nice & professional workers. I came from Mississippi & I felt the food was up to par with what our grandmothers' foods were back in the day. LOVE LOVE LOVED the place!

I didn't ge the best idea of the ambiance because i came on their last day at this location. They are moving to mount Laurel, which is closer to me which is great because i will be returning. I experienced great customer service. The owner and her employees were friendly to everyone that walked in. I really enjoyed the yams, the Mac had a great flavor but I like my Mac baked a little harder. But everything else was grea

Mother of God!! I can't think of a better way to start this review. This is hands down the BEST SOUL/SOUTHERN food I have had in my life. Other places tend to drop the ball somewhere, but not here. EVERYTHING on my plate was the definition of excellence. Nice sized venue in a strip mall, so there's plenty of parking. They had a great Soul and R&B playlist going that if it didn't make you want to dance, the food joy surely will. The Cornbread was fluffy, moist, warm, & almost fell apart when you touched it (in a good way). No butter needed, but they still give you some just in case you wanted it. The Mac & Cheese was a masterpiece! I have nothing further to say about it. It needs no further explanation....MASTERPIECE!! The Yams were the perfect blend of hearty & sweet. The Fried Chicken stole the whole show. Perfectly seasoned, the perfect balance between Juicy & Crispy. I cannot say enough great things about the food here. I need a nap now though, because they are large servings. I will DEFINITELY be back to try more things on the menu.

At the table this was recommended by, a family member. Very nice portion size, everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. Im definitely looking forward to trying other items on the menu. -Beef Meat loaf was juicey and the gravy had a nice flavor -Mac and cheese was solid, wasn't the best I've had but it was still good -black eyed peas was really good -cabbage well seasoned and cooked the way I like not crunchy.

Oh my GAWD!!!! Oooweee. The food here is sooooo good! Wowzers. What a hidden gem not too far from Princeton. The crispiest, lightest fish ever. My family enjoyed the fried chicken wings, smothered chicken and ALL of the sides are delicious . They also have some of the best cornbread! Truly warmed our hearts to see a family run business and meet the family who is so warm and inviting. I will definitely come back!

I wanted soul food for my birthday and asked for local recommendations vs. having to drive to N. Jersey. This place was highly recommended by 3-4 friends and it didn't disappoint. They are new to the area, but experienced in the kitchen! I had the whiting dinner with mac n cheese and yams. My husband had the catfish with string beans and cabbage. My son had the wing platter with collards & he inhaled it. The chicken and fish were fried & seasoned perfectly. Bonus, my husband doesn't eat meat so the veggies weren't cooked with meat and were seasoned well. The restaurant was busy that night with a large catering job, but they still took time to stop by our table and say hello. People continued to come in for take out orders. We left full & very satisfied. We will be back to support this Black owned and operated family business. Please support - you won't be disappointed.

From the moment I entered, the owner, host, and waitress warmly greeted me and my friend. The owner exudes humility, speaks softly, and radiates a calming presence. The restaurant's aesthetic is beautiful, complemented by background music featuring 70s, 80s, and 90s R&B and Soul Train tunes. The food presentation was attractive, and everything tasted delicious and ready to serve. I ordered catfish, kale greens, and baked Mac n cheese. Initially, I hesitated about the Mac and cheese because I don't usually favor overly cheesy dishes. However, it was excellent, featuring a slight brown crust, with perfect seasoning and sauce. The waitress was transparent about the flavor. We visited on a Saturday, which meant we sampled their lunch menu. I look forward to trying their Sunday brunch. Overall, everything was wonderful, and I will continue supporting this establishment.

The restaurant is so beautiful that we saved money by not needing to bring in flowers to make it look wedding-ready. Multiple guests told us that the food was some of the best they'd ever had at a wedding. Cecile, the events manager, was incredibly responsive and detail-oriented, and she was happy to work with us in accommodating our guests' dietary restrictions and navigating the neighborhood noise restrictions. At the wedding itself, the staff were all warm and helpful and made things run smoothly. When I forgot my bridal bouquet, the staff rescued it and had it ready for my mother to pick up the next day. Our wedding was 75 people, and we had plenty of room to have everyone seated for the ceremony and dinner, plus space for a dance floor. We met with Cecile a few days before to walk through our plan, which she had clearly read through carefully, and she and her team were able to execute everything with no issues. In many ways, she acted like a day-of coordinator for us, which meant another big expense saved. It's a gorgeous space for an event with a great history, the food is delicious, and the staff are fantastic. What more can you want?

Service was pretty good, certainly attentive and she was able to corral one of my more picky guest. But the food for all of us, really hit the mark. We had two with the Fried Chicken Dinner which came with greens, Mac and cheese and a small piece of cornbread. One had the ribs that were fall off the bone tender and she raved about the sauce. The kind of welcome that reminds you hospitality is still an art. The ambiance is chic, upscale, and intentional without ever feeling stiff. It is not too loud, allowing laughter and conversations to breathe naturally. They thoughtfully left space for guests without reservations, which shows they value people, not just bookings. Everyone was dressed beautifully, and the staff matched that same elevated professionalism. Clean. Polished. Intentional. Our server, Ashley, was exceptional. Knowledgeable. Present. Confident. She didn't just take orders. She guided an experience. The space is wheelchair accessible, and the outdoor courtyard is stunning. Photo worthy. Elegant. It instantly transported me to New Orleans. The aesthetic, the warmth, the spirit. It felt like Mama nem's table on a Sunday after church. Cousins laughing. Plates heavy. Love flowing. Culture present in every detail. Even the private event space is breathtaking. Weddings. Baby showers. Political donor events. Receptions. Community celebrations. I saw vision the moment I looked inside. And now... let's talk about the food. I had the smoked jerk turkey wings, slow cooked to perfection and served with Creole beans and rice and collard greens with smoked turkey. Let me be clear. This was not just food. This was memory. The seasoning was deep, layered, and soulful. The meat was tender, falling off the bone with ease. I fought the urge to bite the bones themselves just to stay in that moment a little longer. The mac and cheese deserves its own standing ovation. Made with a blend of four cheeses and baked into a rich, creamy cheese joy with perfection, it was rich, indulgent, and comforting in every bite. This is not a side. This is an experience. The freshly baked skillet cornbread, served with Steen's cane syrup and honey butter, was warm, soft, and balanced between sweet and savory. It was the kind of cornbread you slow down for. The kind you remember. My Nina mocktail was refreshing, sweet, and layered. Every sip revealed something new. A drink meant to be savored, not rushed. My husband ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, drizzled with hot honey and served alongside collards with smoked turkey and sweet potato gratin. I stole a wing, of course. Moist. Flavorful. Perfectly crisp. The kind of bite that makes you close your eyes and say "mmmm" without realizing it. This is not just a restaurant. It is culture. It is comfort. It is community. Meeting the general manager felt like reconnecting with family you didn't know you missed. From the first hello at the door to the final goodbye, I felt seen, welcomed, and valued. Even the bathrooms and hallways are selfie worthy. Every detail is intentional. This is where you bring your spouse. Your girls. Your sorors. Your frat brothers. Your business partners. Your family. Your whole community. We drove six hours to experience South Jazz Kitchen, and I would do it again next week without hesitation. I am sending everyone I know. People love this place ... I say that because we were there late afternoon during the week and it was busy ... and it kept getting busier. I do understand why folks love it tho, because there's no other real seafood "shack" in the area specifically where folks can get their blue claw crabs. It truly does look and feel like a seafood shack because the wooden walls, brown paper on the table, paper towels on the table and overall decor scream "We are at the beach in a small southern town in the middle of nowhere where" lol Our server was great! She was very attentive and made recommendations... she was also very patient with us given that this was our first time here and we're a bit undecided on what we wanted to order. Now on to the food - this is honestly where I was underwhelmed. The broiled seafood had a whisper of flavor, the crab cake left a lot to be desired and the garlic buffalo shrimp were overwhelmingly buffalo sauce on top of fried shrimp. Now the clam chowder I had was amazing and I even ordered some to go. My friend enjoyed her crab legs meal overall and perhaps if we visit again that's the route I'll go.
