My husband and I walked into this restaurant during a busy time, but the employees still promptly seated us in a nice private room. The waitress was friendly, and she promptly took our order and brought out our drinks. Later on, she got busy with other customers, so a different employee kindly gave us drink refills and cleared our table. As for the drinks and food: My husband said that his tea was way too strong. The sides of soup and salad were good. My crab rangoon contained lots of cream cheese and was OK compared to other restaurants' crab rangoon. My vegetable hibachi consisted of fresh and flavorful broccoli, carrots, onions, zucchini, and mushrooms. My husband said that his Phoenix tuna sushi and his steak hibachi were good. Was there last night for my friend's birthday... our server Tony ruined our entire experience. There was 5 of us and 2 kids. He couldn't get our order right, it took him 30 minutes to take our order, repeatedly asking us what we ordered. When I asked for white rice instead of fried; he said he assumed I wouldn't want it because of a $2 up charge.. Dude, if I asked for it I want it. After I told him I want white rice 5 times.. surprise surprise I got FRIED... I ate it, it wasn't the chef's fault. Food was your usual hibachi food. After we got our bills Tony was back.. yea... he complained that we ordered too much food and it was frustrating. When I told him that white rice was still on my bill he shouted in my face, "LISTEN TO ME! LISTEN TO ME! I took OFF SODA instead!" Tony was lucky he didn't get knocked out by then, I already had a bad day and I come to this restaurant to be treated like crap! If I wasn't with my friends who were servers, he would have gotten no tip but I did give him a little one even though he didn't deserve it! I never in my life have been treated by a server like this! First time at this place. Hibachi. It was a lot of fun. The wait was not too bad and the soup and salad were very good. I got the Teriyaki chicken and fried rice. The show was very cool to watch also, our chef was a lot of fun and was very interactive. We got this volcano drink. It was Delicious. It was a strong drink but very fruity and on fire. They were also very considerate to us. My Mom has an allergy to seafood so they cooked her chicken separately. Yes, the dreaded downgrade (as my man Jay L in Jax would say). It had been about a year since I was there and the place had changed some. Had a mean hankering last night for some sushi because it had been since Hawaii (way too long). The place just felt unclean, like the tile floor in the kitchen used to get on Friday's all-you-can-eat fried clam night at Ho-Jos on Belmont in 1978. But this was out in the main dining area. The bathroom was equally dirty, making washing my hands kind of an endless endeavor. The service was very good (as usual). Prices have gone up. The sushi quality on the Love Boat was decent as in the past. It wasn't enough to keep me away, but with a recent recommendation on Yamato in its new Niles location, a return to that old haunt will probably come first. read more

Went here on 03.13.2010. The place was really busy, and there didn't seem to be enough staff to adequately take care of the number of diners there, but they did an OK job. Had the shrimp & scallop combo dinner. It was good, not great. The noodles were a nice touch, whereas other Japanese/Teppan places only serve fried rice. Although the portion of fried rice they give you is very small. My wife had the scallop & chicken combo. Same thing....small portion of fried rice, and the chicken was dry. (Although the chicken was probably dry because the cook kept it on the grill while trying to flip a small piece of chicken in everyone's mouth around the table). I could do without the chicken-toss and the onion volcano, both of which are present here. Asuka is a bit on the expensive side, but so are other Teppan places. Boardman is highly competitive in hibachi and out of the four I go to regularly I like asuka for having noodles in there hibachi great portions and they will start you with a starter soup and salad. Horrible, Horrible, Horrible service. The food was okay. But the customer service is extremely poor. And to top it off they add there own 18% tip onto your bill. I explained to the cashier that i would like to decide my own tip. Because my tip wasn't 18% or more he told me that I would not be served any more because of the amount I decided to tip. He told me that he needed to pay his workers. And I explained that a tip is extra it has nothing to do with the way you pay your employees. This place is a joke! They should close this restaurant! I went to this place for dinner last night and ordered Filet mignon and scallops and my steak was rotten. I told my server and did not believe me. I told him have a taste if you think I'm lying and he said no need. He came back and told me it was fresh and just butchered this morning. What a lier!!! Then overheard lady cashier yelling at a customer telling her getting a to-go bag wasn't her job... also, our lunch said it was served with rice we never got any of that. I went here because vindy.com (the local newspaper site) had 30 reviews for this place and everyone gave it five stars. The experience was pleasant. The place is not Japanese-owned but the sushi tasted ok. The fish were of decent quality. The takosu that we ordered came with a light cube decoration that changed colors. The takos tasted fresh but I was a bit concerned about the cleanness of the light cube even thought it made the dish looked cool. The different rolls were tasty. I recommend the Iso roll because it tastes very refreshing. I also tried Naruto and Crazy Dance rolls. The place is slightly more expensive than other local affairs but given that we were eating seafood at a place not by the ocean, I suppose it's forgivable. I didn't order any cooked stuff so didn't share the experience of the previous reviewer. I am giving it four stars because there nothing disagreeable about the food or service (other than the questionable light cube). Vindy.com starts everyone at 5 stars then subtracts from it. I'm not sure what it is about asuka sushi, but it has a distinct taste that I really like. I feel like I could pick it out of a lineup of blind sushi tasting. The maki combo is pretty good but not unbeatable as far as price. Mizu has a three rolls for $10.25 lunch special. If you're wondering if you can substitute a dynamite roll for the Alaskan roll the answer is: No! I asked. It's a lot more expensive was the answer I got (even though it is an option in maki combo C :/).You do get a lot more fish, ginger and wasabi at Mizu with their sushi. Like a lot more. Mizu's sushi rolls are twice the size of Asukas. The presentation is better there too but I think overall they're pretty evenly matched. The miso tastes just ok to me. I will start and say the food is excellent, but our appetizer arrived as a dessert, a little too late, then the staff literally kicked us out of our table. Our food was barely in a Togo box, when they cleared our table and literally took our drinks out of our hands. When asked if your kicking us out, she replied "yes, we need the table". There should be no reason customers should feel unwelcome or rushed. When asked about problem, they offer another drink, but without a seat where would I have drank it? Went on a Tuesday night for our daughter's birthday. It was not busy and we were seated right away. Drink order was taken, two adult sized waters, a child's Diet Coke and a child's water for a 2 year old. When the drinks were brought out, the 2 year old's water was huge and full with a flimsy disposable lid on top of a heavy plastic cup. Anyone with small children understands what a pain this can be. We then ordered our food. Three hibachi dinners, two California rolls and one yummy roll. When the soup and salad came out, the server sets my hot soup directly in front of the 2 year old. No sense whatsoever. The chef came out to cook in a very timely manner and had the dinners going in no time. He was ok... Standard hibachi entertainment but not the best. Didn't do a lot of the tricks these chefs normally do. The food was all pretty good. The steaks were cooked as specified and the chicken was tasty. The shrimp was good as well. The rice was a bit salty though. Noodles and vegetables were good. As we were finishing dinner, we realized that we had never received our sushi. Apparently the server never even rang it in. Our daughter was very disappointed as she loves sushi, but we were not having sushi after the meal. What a shame. I was really looking forward to that. The atmosphere was severely lacking. Probably the worst dining experience I've had in the area. I didn't review after the first horrible experience I had. I chalked it up to bad luck. We were completely forgotten about. No refills on drinks. My pod came and then 15 min later my fiancé's food came. I waited for her so we could eat together and then my food was cold. Nobody came to check on us the whole night. My food sat for so long that our waitress brought me a to go box...that's how she realized my fiancé didn't receive her food. Bill came, no apology, no free items, nothing got comped. I wouldn't go back here ever again, not even if my food was free. Truth be told, I didn't want anything for free. I just wanted to be done with the experience about 15 minutes in. They don't care about you there. It's the only time in my life I didn't tip. It wouldn't have been earned. Go to Sawa instead. I love a good hibachi. This was not one of them. Hubby and I both had fish. He, the salmon and I the perch. The food was very salty, and this was determined before putting any sauces on the meal. I do not use the yum yum sauce but did try the ginger sauce and while it was nice on the fish it was VERY thick so did not use much of it. This was where my friends hosted my bachelorette party . It was a fun place with good food years ago. When I went here on Saturday, the hostess was very negative about their soup special which I had commented that I thought had sounded good. We were seated in a booth which I did like because we were exchanging presents. Our service was awful. Our server took back our sushi menu and said we could not order any at this time which was mid-afternoon . We had to ask for silverware and napkins. We went here as my wife was here a few weeks ago for her monthly girls night out. She said that I would love it and so would the kids We arrived at about 5:30 and the place was semi-busy but we didn't have to wait. It's hibachi style of which the kids especially love because they cook right in front of you. The chef was fun as he flipped his utensils and made a volcano out of onions and made it catch fire as if exploding. My kids were thoroughly entertained and at the end he flipped broccoli from his spatula into the everyone's mouth who was at the table. Oh, and he had a kethup bottle filled with Sake and asked if anybody wanted some. My wife volutneered me as she is pregnant so I indulged. He said open up and he squirted it into my mouth while everyone counted. I made it to 8-seconds so needless to say ot was a huge gulp. Now to the food. I ordered an appetizer of sushi of which I chose Yellow tail and scallion. It came out in six pieces and it was very fresh and tasty. For the main course we had the steak and scallops. Man, this was delicious. The steak was done perfectly and the scallops were surprisingly fresh. I say surprisingly as it is rare to get fresh seafood in northeast Ohio. Our waitress was very nice and attentive as she removed the empty dishes within minutes and kept our beverages full. The only complaint is that it was about 18-degrees outside. You could feel every bit of the 18-degrees at our table as it was coming in through the cook top exhaust vent above us. We actually ate with our coats on to stay warm. Other than this issue, we had a very nice time and will go back again-when it's warmer outside of course. read more

I was there for dinner, took a sip of water, and when I closed my mouth I bit something hard. I spat it out, thinking I'd broken a tooth, only to find tiny shards of glass in my hand. Upon further investigation my boyfriend and I found more shards of glass at the bottom of both our drinks. When the manager came over, we told her it must have come from the ice trough. At first she tried to tell me it was salt, which I quickly told her, "NO, it was I my mouth and hand. It was definitely glass." She told us, "oh, sorry. I can give you a 10% discount." And then walked away. They did nothing to check where the glass had come from and kept on serving customers from the same beverage station and ice trough. First when me and my 2 sons walked in, no one offered to seat us, we kind of wandered around the place until a women emerged out of the back room 5 minutes later. The place was dead for a Friday night and the food was way overpriced. The sushi was bland and the rolls were tiny! The Chicken hibachi was terrible, tasted like overcooked boiled chicken cubes thrown in some teriyaki sauce. One of the waiters approached me during our meal to ask if I was single because his friend liked me. The only positive thing I have to say about the place was the cool booths with sliding Japanese doors for privacy. This is the only hibachi place that doesn't make me sick. Their food is always amazing, best noodles I've ever had. Sure the staff isn't super sociable, but they're not rude by any means.
