Astra Automotive recently did a 54 point inspection, oil change and inspection of brakes causing intermittent noise. Vehicle; diesel sprinter 3500. Again, I was impressed at their thoroughness. Astra has provided consistently excellent service on this vehicle for 10 years. There's a stigma out there that many mechanics will take advantage of customers who aren't overly knowledgeable about vehicles and what is required to fix them. Sergey and Lana and their team at Astra are the opposite of this. Genuine people with the knowledge and expertise for a quality repair. Astra was first a recommendation from my roommate after I had a bad oil leak and wasn't sure where to start with finding a quote. After reaching out to two other shops as well as Astra, they were the only ones to reply promptly and turn a quote around for me within a couple of days. They had quoted me on the oil leak but also provided a full diagnostic of other issues they saw. I appreciated that the shop also took the time to take a look at my vehicle, they specially in German-made cars, which mine is most certainly not in this category at this point. Before starting any repairs, Sergey walked me through the quote and let me know what was critical to fix now and what could wait, but that I should keep an eye on. At no point did I feel like he was trying to push anything. He was honest and straightforward. Once repairs started, if anything extra needed doing, he always called first to check in that it was ok to proceed. In the end, he fixed a pretty major leak for me. It's been two months and no further issues. Lastly, last month someone scraped my car while I was parked down on 17th Ave one Saturday night. I brought it in to Sergey who photographed it and referred me over to a nearby autobody shop. When I picked up my vehicle there, the shop owner noted: "Oh right! This was a referral from Sergey over at Astra. He's one of the most honest people I've ever dealt with." Our 2007 Sprinter needed a little TLC. There is no MB service shops in our hometown of Cranbrook so we searched the web until we found Astra Automotive in Calgary. We were so lucky we did. Sergey and his team were top notch in service from beginning to end. They isolated the problem and fixed it right away so we could get back on the road. Bad business - not recommended -beware!!! The company that I work for made an appointment with Astra automotive for work to be done on a sprinter van that we use at work to shuttle customers. We knew ahead of time the work to solve a fuel issue would take a day and a half . I drove behind from Hinton to Calgary as a second vehicle to be used while the van was in the shop the sprinter had been to Astra on other occasions for servicing and out of loyalty was continuing to return to Astra . Plans were for two days shop work then return home as we had obligations on Thursday and Friday back in Hinton . At great disappointment the vehicle was finally turned out of the shop Friday afternoon having to reschedule multiple appointments. as we drove away from the shop paying over $3000 for work done the van was running worse than it had before it went in for repairs we were forced to leave the van behind parked with family outside of Calgary returning to Hinton very late Friday night with everything crammed into a small car. Further complicating plans that had been in place 3 weeks previous for my car to be in Edmonton with my daughter for a drivers test that Saturday morning. Work to solve a fuel issue was incomplete. Many people were impacted by the change in plans because of the van being abandoned in Calgary now also forcing a second trip back to Calgary to lift the van to another place to get the original fuel issue resolved... not to forget that Astra repaired or replaced a fuel line that they broke at no extra charge mind you , but they had lost or broke a clip that is a part of the fuel filter and secured it with a "zip tie" read more

I found Astra Automotive by way of a friend's referral after I received a massive quote from 2 other shops to repair my not-too-old Mini Cooper. Lana and Sergey were great to deal with and provided me with excellent service, including identifying the required work in order of urgency and spending a lot of time on proper diagnostics. The biggest reward was that Sergey found an outstanding Transportation Service Bulletin on the very expensive defective part that I had to repair which ultimately led to warranty service and a huge savings! We are extremely impressed and grateful for the service we received at Astra Automotive. I can confidently recommend Sergei and his team to anyone with a foreign car and especially Sprinters! When your baby is braindead and no other doctor will even consider treating her, Sergei is your man! My 2005 Dodge Sprinter (custom built camper) developed mysterious electrical issues and would not start or crank even though everything else had been working perfectly. The Dodge and Mercedes dealers were clueless and would have probably charged us thousands for not fixing the problem. Right from the get go Sergei was upfront and entirely honest. He told us the whole thing was risky and gave us plenty of options. He was methodical and extremely competent in the diagnosistic phase. Once the cause was discovered (mice!) he proceeded carefully to replace the entire wiring harness of the van. Once the replacement was finished and there were still several minor issues he diagnosed and fixed these quickly as well, not charging us anything additional to complete the job honestly and completely. It's going on two weeks now and we couldn't be happier. All around excellent and trustworthy shop. I was quoted $5000 for brakes, left ball joint and glow plugs for my Sprinter van. I went to a competitor close by and paid $2100 for the same thing. The competitor even changed out my brake switch (which I had purchased) at no extra charge. I was very glad to pay for the $150 one hour charge to get my van out of Astra's lot. They weren't mean people, just over-charged a tonne. read more
