Susan was a true gift for my family when my sister and I made the decision to move our mother who…read moreis suffering from Alzheimer's disease from Annapolis, MD, to San Diego, CA. Susan listened to our family story, learning about both who our mother is and what her care needs are. Both of these perspectives were critical to finding the "best fit" community for mom and for us. Susan knows the questions to ask and what she needs to know so she can narrow the search to focus only on communities that are potential matches for the family and individual's care needs. Susan did everything she could with us in advance of visiting communities to make that day easier. She had community info and could answer many of our questions before we even talked to the community's team. And when we met with the community's team, Susan asked questions after my sister and I finished ours to get answers to things we wanted to know and had forgotten. The value of Susan's services for families is exceptional because her fees are paid by the community which a family selects. It's a win-win all the way around and this cost model really benefited our family. We forged a collaborative partnership with Susan to find mom's community without having to worry about what service costs how much. I can't express how grateful and appreciative we are of the time we worked with Susan. In our case, Susan suggested we start with visiting three communities and the first one was a perfect fit for our mom's care and us as a family. Susan even checked in on us after mom moved in and wanted to make sure the community was meeting our expectations (and hers!). Susan did the legwork needed to ensure our mom's comfort and safety, and it lifted so much of the burden my sister and I felt regarding finding a community for mom. Susan receives my HIGHEST recommendation!

After touring several board-and-care places, we knew Garden Abode was the best choice. Nothing compared in terms of the level of care and quality. Melissa and the staff at Garden Abode treated her with kindness and respect. She enjoyed a variety of healthy food, a beautiful home and backyard, and personal care and companionship; all of which brought her and us much comfort in the final months of her life. We couldn't recommend Garden Abode more highly.

Garden Abode is a 6 resident facility in a lovely private house in a gated community. It is run by…read morea very professional, kind and compassionate individual with staff who care very much about all the people who come to stay. If there are 6 residents the staff ratio is one to three. This is crucial and pretty much as good as it gets. It's a close as you will find to a home from home. The care given by Melissa and her staff is amazing. The accommodation ranges from shared rooms through single ensuites and a great kitchen, dining room and lounge areas. And the garden is sunny with lots of beautiful plants and a very cool resident tortoise who is very fond of hibiscus flowers. When I initially visited, Melissa sat and talked with me for more than 2 hours. She will listen to what it is your loved one needs and talk through everything and help you with every step of the process, she will tell you exactly what she can and can't do. She has been running Garden Abode for more than 15 years and has a wealth of knowledge about everything you will need to know. She will manage meds, special diets and advise on Hospice when the time comes. She is very flexible on visiting and will accommodate any reasonable requests. The task may seem overwhelming to you but once the initial intake admin is complete Melissa and her staff will be able to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for your loved one. My husband was in their care for seven months. I was unable to keep him home any longer and Melissa and the staff really did provide a home for him. This was not an easy time by any means and Melissa helped our family navigate it with as much grace and dignity as is possible. If you are looking for care for yourself or a loved one in a comfortable and caring environment it may be the best thing you do to just give her a call and talk to her. If you leave a message she will call you back promptly. This part of life is a very difficult one to navigate. The decision to put your loved one into care is, at the very least, heart-wrenching. The facilities available range from massive expensive institutions run by corporations where, if your loved one is on the quiet side and deteriorating they may not receive the care you would hope for (and they are very much institutions regardless of what you may see when you tour) to small Board and Care facilities with a few beds and a dedicated staff, and everything in between. A Board and Care facility may well provide more personalized and superior care than a far more expensive large institution. Some are obviously better than others and you will know the facility that's right when you find it. I looked at many facilities trying to find accommodation for my husband who had dementia and was deteriorating. I came out of every tour of every facility and sat in the car and wept because I felt there was no way I could leave him in any of them.... then I found Garden Abode and Melissa. I can recommend them wholeheartedly. I don't think I could have found better and I thank Melissa, her daughter and the rest of the staff from the bottom of my heart. x

She had no money and they wanted to kick her out. We were frantic and felt great despair because of her low social security income. My neighbor directed us to Financial Security Designs . Mr Tony Bevin- Medi-Cal and VA Benefits Consultant. We hired him immediately after our first consultation seeing the wealth of great knowledge and experience he displayed . He immediately took charge following up with the skilled nursing facility and secured her safety and her room. A huge relief. He mentored us and directed us as to the process . He did the tackling and took the whole responsibility with the case workers on their level. Even after her passing when the case was in jeopardy he said " Its Not Over "! And he fought the governmental medi- cal dept. Nothing was sweeter than to receive his email that the case ended with a win for Aunt Sharon . There is no way unless you do this for a living that one could expediate and understand the lingo and facilitate it the way Mr. Tony Bevin did for us . We will forever be grateful . I believe because of his 30 years experience and knowledge in dealing with cases year after year he allowed us to bury her with respect and dignity in her final months. I would highly advise and urge all families to reach out to Mr Tony Bevin with any and all problems with Medi - cal and VA affairs. Thank you Tony for caring enough to fight our fight .
