My father was there a little over a day and the experience in my opinion was horrible. There was a good evening nurse that took care of him that made me feel comfortable. Other then that part of the experience, I am highly disappointed. There were multiple things in my opinion that went wrong so I will go in order. Let me preface this by saying, my father had a minor episode at home which led him to go the hospital and the hospital referred him to a sub-acute rehab to regain his strength and work on PT so he can return home. Prior to this episode, my father was fairly active and was able to manage his daily routine on his own with minimal help from me. 1. Upon my father (who has alzheimers) arriving there, I arrived about an hour after he did.. there was no one there to greet me, introduce themselves as someone who would be taking care of him for the day/evening, and the nurses station looked absolutely clueless. I asked one nurse if someone could help me and in addition to clearly not wanting to assist me, she didn't have much of a clue as to who he was or what was happening. (Understandable, given he just got there but that would have been the moment to point me in the direction of someone who did know how to help me.) I explained that without any sort of supervision/guidance in a new environment, it was very likely my father was going to get up on his own and walk around considering this is a new place and he isn't exactly sure what's going on or where he is. The nurse I spoke to advised me that he couldn't wander around since he was COVID+. While I understood that, I tried to explain to him that he would like grasp that as fast as I would and needs to be explained. She said "Well that's state policy." Clearly, I was not being heard. 2. That evening I had tried to confirm with the nurse that all of his medications would be given to him. The nurse assured me that it does take some time to get all his medications ordered and in their possession but he will receive all of them. The following morning, I called to confirm he has them all at the facility. I asked about one medication in particular, his long acting insulin because my father is a type 1 diabetic. I explained to them that the hospital had a similar issue with receiving his medication which did make his normal insulin schedule to be slightly off. My father would always administer his long acting insulin in the evening.. the hospital did not administer his until the morning. As a result, he did not receive the long acting insulin his first evening in the rehab center because he received it that morning. The morning after is the morning I am discussing now. I asked the nursing supervisor, Trisha, and the nurse on that morning if he would be receiving the long acting insulin. Both the nurse and the nurse supervisor advised me he would not be getting it, as the nurse practitioner said "no, he will get it at his scheduled time, in the evening." While I do understand wanting to keep him on schedule, I tried to explain to the nurse and Nurse supervisor, Trisha, that his blood sugars will be high all day and they will constantly have to be giving him injections of his other (fast acting) insulin to get his blood sugar under control. After the nurse supervisor and nurse advised me that it was not up to them and it is up to the nurse practitioner, Owen to make the final decision, I asked for him to contact me. The nurse practitioner, Owen, did contact me and reiterated what I have already mentioned. I explained my concerns as I am not a doctor but I am a type 1 diabetic who understands how it works and also have assisted in managing my dads type 1 diabetes while he has been living with me, and I have been surrounded by this disease my entire life, and Owen still insisted his way was correct and he will not be giving him the long acting at a different time and the nursing staff will have to administer more fast acting insulin to get his blood sugar under control. As a result of the nurse practitioners orders, my father became unresponsive a few hours later due to a hypoglycemic episode. He was then taken by ambulance to another ER. 3. My father was not bathed/cleaned up upon arrival. The EMT noticed it in addition to myself. My dad had been in clothing that he urinated in throughout the night and there was no staff member that thought it would be a good idea to be concerned about his hygiene. In addition to that, his room upon arrival had a dirty washcloth and used soap or shampoo on the floor. I have outreached this nursing home/rehab Sunday, Monday and Tuesday trying to contact the nursing supervisor and there has not be one phone call that has been answered and somehow there's no voicemail. This entire situation has been concerning. I am scared for others who come here for a long duration of time, whether that be rehabilitation or nursing home care. It seems very apparent that the staff does not make the extra effort for the patients. I am not read more

Mimi is incredibly responsive, kind, compassionate and is an incredible resource. No one calls Mimi at a time of joy. People are in crisis when calling for this type of support. I highly recommend working with Mimi Santry.......her style is "caring" but "professional". I have worked with her both with respect to my own father's situation and as a real estate professional, to identify options for seniors who are exploring downsizing. She is well informed, highly intelligent, compassionate and works quickly. She is well suited to help people during difficult times because of these qualities. Often people find themselves very suddenly in a situation where they need help with their parents, having no idea where to go or what to do. I can't say enough good things about Mimi! A family member needed placement in a memory care setting after a precipitous and unexpected decline in cognitive function. Mimi has an incredible knowledge of - and relationships with - a wide range of assisted living facilities in CT and the greater NY area.
