My dad and I initially met Colin and discussed applying for Medicaid for my mother. She gave us a long list of documents we needed to gather before she could start the process of "applying". We had our second appointment to discuss next steps. Between our initial meeting, and our second meeting, we decided that my parents would move out of NY. We told her that the house was on the market and they would be moving in a few months. She then informed us that applying for Medicaid in NY is completely unrelated to applying in other states. We had no idea as this was our first time looking into Medicaid. She said could only help with NY. Within minutes of this conversation, she asked for her check for $5000 to continue the application process, which consisted of filling out the short application and sending it in with documents we had found . We weren't thinking straight. She is a bulldozer. We never should've paid her $5000 to fill out the application and send it in when all three of us knew that my mom did not need Medicaid in NY at that point. She just wanted her money and didn't do the right thing. We trusted her and that was naïve of us . The $5000 check was cashed right away before the application was even sent in. Here's the kicker... The application that was sent in was filled with mistakes including my name listed as the spouse and I'm the daughter! Also, beware of the "pooled trust". They work alongside Colin. They "manage" your money and pay bills on your behalf. She asked my dad for $300 to fund the "Pooled Trust." and he complied. Same day, I told Colin not to put any money into the Pooled Trust and she agreed that since we were not going to be getting services in NY, that there was no point. It turns out that she screwed up and the money was put into the pooled trust anyway and they refused to give it back to my dad. They are crooks. The whole experience was a nightmare, and if I could give them zero stars I would. No value added here. Careless, rude, unethical and unprofessional. If you do end up using this company, be sure to oversee every detail or you will probably regret it . They cannot be trusted to handle the process. Be careful.

In the end, it not only wasted our time and thousands of dollars, but most distressing, we got stuck with a nanny who made us and our daughter deeply unhappy for several months. My husband and I were trying to secure a nanny, and the first that we hired through Family Helpers had misled us on a few critical items. It turned out the nanny did NOT want to work with a newborn, showed up reeking of cigarettes, and was mean to our daughter. We asked Family Helpers to send us more candidates. Family Helpers repeatedly sent us candidates who could not meet our scheduling or budget needs. In short: * Family Helpers' vetting failed as it sent us a nanny unwilling to work with 2 kids * Family Helpers' vetting failed as it sent us a candidate unwilling to work within our discussed budget (i.e., less than $25/hour) * FamilyHelpers' vetting failed as it sent us a candidate unwilling to work the hours that we stated we were looking for * FamilyHelpers' vetting failed as it recommended a nanny who could not detect something was off when our daughter, who she had gotten to know over 8 weeks, lay on the couch for hours with a very high fever. Additionally, we were frustrated at Family Helper's guidance to increase our budget to $25/hr, which is 25%-33% more than peers using Family Helpers service, what several strong candidates we evaluated were willing to accept, or what we see online. Even more hurtful, Family Helpers blamed us for not being clear about the hours / pay, even when faced with email evidence to the contrary. After weeks and weeks of no good candidates, Family Helpers audaciously recommended we simply fire the current (bad) nanny, with no coverage at all. I was flabbergasted--what kind of plan was this, for two working parents? In the end, we found a few wonderful nannies through friends. My husband and I requested a substantial refund given Family Helpers failed to send vetted candidates that met our criteria and we paid $1,600 severance to one of their nannies, but Family Helpers refused. Family Helpers refunded us 50% of our fee, whereas we thought 95% would have been appropriate. I am a big supporter of local businesses, but I am a bigger advocate for the parents and families in my community. It is for this reason I share our recent experience with Family Helpers.

I already had a terrible experience with my first and had to let her go. Amanda sent over Bianca who was the best. She handled by gassy, fussy baby with love and guidelines. She was very professional and left notes for us daily. She even pointed out things to change as my baby was growing. She left her nurse extra clean and organized. She also prepared bottles for the day and did my laundry. Of course my baby needed extra attention so baby comes first before anything else. I slept in peace knowing my girl was in good hands. I wish I could give more than five stars to Burke Outpatient Physical Therapy, and particularly to…read moremy physical therapist, Hugo. If the scale were 1 to 10, I'd give him a 50. I came to Burke after having two complete knee replacements just three days apart. I knew the rehabilitation was going to be a challenge, and from my very first session I felt as though I had not just a physical therapist, but my own personal coach who was completely invested in getting me back to my life. Hugo is intense--in the very best possible way. "Come on, you can do more!" was something I heard often. He pushed me when I needed to be pushed, encouraged me when I needed encouragement, and somehow always seemed to know the difference between the two. At the same time, he was extraordinarily observant. On the occasions when I pushed too hard and irritated my knee, he could see it immediately. He listened, adjusted the exercises, and never pushed through something that didn't feel right. Most days I actually walked out of PT better than I walked in. What impressed me perhaps more than anything was how closely Hugo paid attention to me as an individual. If my appointment was at 9:00, at 9:00 the door would open and there he was with a big smile. He would let me walk ahead of him toward the treatment area while he watched my gait. By the time I reached his table, I sometimes felt that he already knew how my knees were doing before he even asked me. At the end of the session, he would watch me walk again to see what had changed. I've experienced physical therapy elsewhere where a therapist was working with several patients at once, moving back and forth between them. My experience with Hugo was completely different. I had his attention. He watched, corrected, encouraged and challenged me throughout the session. I truly felt like an athlete working one-on-one with a coach. One moment probably says more about Hugo than anything else. Earlier in my recovery he had told me I wasn't quite ready to ride a bicycle yet. Eventually he thought I was getting close and suggested raising the seat and giving it a try. At my next appointment, I excitedly told him the story of getting back on my bike and how much it meant to me. Hugo held out his arms and said, "Look--you gave me goosebumps." That told me everything. This wasn't just another patient completing another exercise program to him. He genuinely shared in my happiness and my progress. I also want to mention Eric, who treated me for one session when Hugo wasn't available. Eric was wonderful as well--kind, knowledgeable and encouraging--and my experience with him reinforced the quality of the entire Burke outpatient team. Today I'm walking miles, riding my bike, using the elliptical, swimming, and continuing to improve. There is still work to do, particularly with stairs, but when I think about where I started and where I am now, I'm incredibly grateful. Hugo, thank you for pushing me, listening to me, celebrating with me and caring about my recovery as much as you did. You didn't just help rehabilitate two new knees--you helped me get back to doing the things I love. Five stars simply aren't enough.
