Woke up early the other morning with the blaring of the Septic high level alarm. It's a sound I…read morehope to never hear again. I searched for help online and had only two responses to my request. The first response was within a few minutes of my post and it was from KR Contractors. One other company responded about 45 minutes later. I was given a phone number to call for my septic tank issue and called it immediately. Rob answered and I explained what was going on. He said he was on his way and would be there soon. Rob arrived within an hour and assessed the problem with my septic lift pump and the holding tank it sits in. We pumped down the tank only to find ground water leaking in profusely at the piping penetration to the mound. The ground water was from all the rain we had just had the night before but it should not have been leaking into the tank at all. Long story : KR Contractors pulled the old pump and pumped the tank to assess the ground water leak. Had to dig up the dirt around the piping penetration in the tank to fix the ground water leaking in. This part of the job required a backhoe which was on the scene as soon as we determined we needed it. Backhoe operator was a pro and easily removed the dirt in about a ten foot long by four foot long trench so they could get to the piping that needed to be replaced. Turns out the old cast iron sleeve around that section of piping to the mound had cracked and that was where the ground water was entering into the system flowing into the septic lift pump tank. They removed that section of piping and replaced it with all new PVC piping (no more cast iron sleeves) and fixed the piping penetration into the tank so no ground water could leak in again. During this event we checked the voltage on the power plug for the Septic Lift pump and found it to be 92 volts or so. Should be 120 volts or the pump will fail due to high current draw due to the low voltage. Quick assessment showed the old power plug had deteriorated over time so it was replaced with a new, high quality power plug. Power turned on and now voltage at the pump is 121 volts. So there were quite a few issues here: Failed pump (17 years old so it did a good job and perhaps the low voltage caused it to fail early), voltage at power plug was 92 volts, ground water leaking into the tank causing the pump to cycle on and off quite a bit or run continuously. Everything was repaired, replaced and improved quickly by KR Contractors. I am very pleased with the service and everyone involved in my fiasco were very pleasant to speak to and deal with. I highly recommend them for any issues like mine. Check out their website, they do more than septic. Great company, great people!

Forced to drop stars. Context:…read more First job (concrete slab) was as initially described. But upon completion back in September, Dan stated he would seal at no cost "a month after" - that didn't happen. His commit to doing so is the only reason we didn't do it. As a result, it got beat up with the constant weather events and will need to be resurfaced. But second: we contracted with him to do a gutter replacement well in advance of the forth coming rain. It took almost 4 months before he showed. He offered a discount off of the price; then when he finally did show, he only removed some of the existing gutter and left without installing any new. He even left his ladder behind for some reason. Multiple emails for followup status have gone unanswered. It's the lack of communication and unfinished task (which can cause roof damage) that forces star drop. Previously he had indicated that they moved "far up north" - so it's possible he needed to change his service area but hasn't. That's on the business though; if you accept a job and money for the job, you complete the job as agreed. Which might mean something as simple as booking a hotel nearby for a week until the job is done or something.

Steve's Masonry was the first company to agree to show up and quote the work. Admittedly I still have sticker shock as I have no idea how much this type of work costs. But they took care of everything and even came back out to finish a few spots missed in the initial visit. The whole process was quick too, Milan quoted the repair on a weekend and one of his guys was there within the week. Milan was a very nice guy and his workers got the job done. Overall we had a good experience with Steve's Masonry. I would recommend them for anyone needing this type of work on their home.

Steve quoted $1,000. His crew showed up and barely ground out the old mortar (going only a 1/2 inch deep before coating the seams with new mortar). I climbed on the roof and noted the shotty work. I called and texted Steve to discuss. He himself said mortar should be no less than 3/4" to 1". FYI, web says 2 to 3 times the width of a joint. Then Steve scolded his staff for telling me that they only did 1/2" (see photo of receipt). Steve was more upset that I knew the truth about the work they completed then he was about rectifying the job. He wanted me to call Champion (another local biz to confirm his story - i certainly wouldn't trust them either). He refused to adjust the bill and threatened to pull his team without them finishing. Don't trust this company! His team was also very condescending. I am very knowledgeable about construction. They lied to my face and were quite smug while doing so.
