Updated, I am waiting to finish this review until I see how this gets resolved. Here's the update with my original review below. I didn't end up getting the root canal that day, but I still ended up having to pay $444 out-of-pocket! I'm disabled and on Medicare. They said it included the consultation, a $75 fee for some kind of pulp test, which really was tapping my tooth and touching it with something cold, which took about 30 seconds, and then the rest was the charge for the CBCT scan and X-rays. Now, had I known that I was going to pay that much for a consultation, which only included a short visit and the images, I would have gone to the best endodontist in town. Not to say that I didn't like the doctor, but that much money for a quick In-N-Out is ridiculous. I have traveled great distances to big cities to consult with a surgeon, periodontist, and tongue/airway specialist ENT, all considered at top of their field around the world, which is why I traveled to see them, and the most I paid was $350 per visit. And that was within the last five years. These visits were in depth. I showed up, knowing that I was gonna be there for a good hour, have a full exam, full images worked up, and leave with a very solid idea of what I needed to do next. Those appointments were well worth the money. So to go to this corporate chain office and pay this much for a consultation with an image of only my tooth and the bone around it, not my whole head and skull like I paid for in the other visits, seems like a HUGE over charge! I am shocked. I sat in the parking lot and cried. I was warned by my dentist that he'd seen some really bad implants done here at Aspen and he said make sure the endodontist is not the same as the oral surgeon who does implants[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. He said he's not the only doctor to see terrible work from Aspen. Yikes! [[HIGHLIGHT]]So I showed up 30 minutes early for my appointment and it was a good thing I did because when I got here they said they didn't have my referral, which I know was sent. Again she said that would have been done correctly if she'd been in the office. One excuse after another. I think her name is Carrie. Avoid Aspen Dental in Bloomington -- especially because of the office manager, Carey L. Klumpp. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We scheduled a 3pm appointment and confirmed it the night before with their receptionist. Showed up at 2:45pm and were told our appointment was "canceled at 9pm last night." No call, no text, no email.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were told we could sit and wait until they could "maybe fit us in." Ended up standing in an overcrowded lobby for over an hour before being seen. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dentist was fine, but the office manager is the real problem. I've been going seven months for my implants. The total would be $15,000. Only had 7 visits .on the original estimate they said my insurance would pay $1300.which they did. No problems except one of the screws for the implants came loose in my mouth. Went there last week and they said I owed another 1,000 which I did due to a clerical error on their part. Today the office manager told me she can't tell me what I still owe. Because they are now starting to send bills to insurance company. So if they don't pay I could owe a lot more money. I was told 15000 covered everything. They can't tell me why they didn't explain this at all. Because if they are just going to insurance now , that was never paid for and I was told it was. What an absolute repulsive racket they run here. Made my family member an appointment that was in so much pain with a rotting tooth and no insurance. Mind you the tooth is still in his head. I'm so confused at this point but in I go. Sit down and the office person slides a paper across the desk with a "plan" they wrote up. To the tune of $25000. My son was next to me near tears I could tell and embarrassed to the heavens thinking it was a quick simple $330 extraction (ridiculous price but anyway). I look at her like ummm okay. She says they found all these issues and all this work that he needs and kept detouring away from the problem at hand which was a rotting tooth putting his health at risk. They would not pull the tooth and as a matter of fact wanted to do other work first and said there were more important issues. Essentially we walked out of the visit with a big nothing burger and right back to square one bc no way we can afford to pay $25000 cash. I went straight home and applied for insurance for my son and life happened and I am late on this review but my point is that they are extremely money driven and don't really care about their patients. Aspen Dental is the poster child for this collectively all wrapped in a nice pretty package but the bow is loose and inside the box is a Dirty Santa regift from two Christmas parties ago. When I saw others who have had similar experiences and the bad publicity out there I decided I should do the right thing and tell some hard truth about our experience. I had my first visit to Aspen Dental yesterday. I should have taken the reviews seriously, and if I had done so I would never have darkened their doorstep. First the positive. The people were all friendly and professional. Getting the appointment was relatively easy, though I did not know what to expect. I arrived about 15 minutes early for my 3:00pm appointment. At 3:00 I was escorted into the X-ray room where the tech took approximately 20 X-rays. (I didn't count them so it might have been a few more or less.) After the X-rays I was escorted into the exam room where I waited for 35 minutes until the dentist came in to begin the exam. We discussed my issues, two broken teeth, would require extraction and in addition there were two missing teeth that would either get a bridge or implants depending on my budget. In addition, he found several cavities that he said would require filling. After the exam I was taken to see the office manager. She presented me with 2 documents. Each included the total for option 1 and option 2. Option 1 was for the bridge and option 2 was for the implants. The documents were totals only and did not include any detail. I thanked her and head home. Upon reaching home I got my reading glasses and began to review the documents, and upon discovering the lack of detail I phoned the office manager to inquire so I could be sure that everything was covered. I was informed that until I sign the agreement to commence treatment I would not be able to see the detail. I was a little confused so I asked again to be sure I understood. "You mean I cannot know what I am agreeing to until I have signed the document indicating my agreement?" The answer was "Yes." Needless to say, that does not seem right to me. I was not allowed to review all of the items we discussed. It also seems wrong to me that a cleaning would be required before any treatment would begin. Same can be said for the X-rays. Since I had not agreed to service why were X-rays so critical. The bottom line was a cost of over $13,000 for bridge work and over $16,000 for implants. With no way of knowing what other incremental costs would be involved I cannot in good conscience return for any dental work. Caveat Emptor! read more

My father and I both went for the first time to Aspen dental in Bloomington, Indiana. The staff was rushed and understaffed. My father was having three teeth removed and a cleaning while I was there for the "free" consultation. I want all my teeth removed and dental implants. My father paid his very expensive bill while mine was free. When returning home my accountant mother reviewed his bill and he was double charged for each tooth. My mother called and received a refund. On to me now, four days after my free consultation I received a $50 bill from them to examine my teeth with no work performed (remember they were stating free consult, I called and had to pay the bill. At the time we left they gave me my estimate for $49,000! I look at my estimate and every tooth was double charged just like they pulled on my elderly father. I showed the estimate to a friend who is a Dentist and he flipped out. He said everything listed was inflated 3 times the cost it should be. Last week i went to Aspen Dental in Bloomington for the mold of my permanent denture fixture. It went OK; but my temporary fixture has a wobbling tooth. They fix it the same day in just a couple of hours. Tom the Dental Tech. was very kind ; it was a busy day and he took some extra time to fix it; otherwise it will take days. I really appreciate this. The staff in Aspen Dental in Bloomington is awesome and the helping assistance Danny was very quick, informative, nice and very efficient. Went in for a simple extraction in October. Here it is almost December and still no extraction. Got nothing but the run around and they tried to make me pay to check the same tooth again! This office is very disorganized and the actual dental service is problematic as well. I've been there 4 times for 2 separate deep cleanings. They said they had to do one side at a time for insurance reasons - fine. The first 2 deep cleanings went fine - no anesthetic needed. Nobody told me when I should come back for another cleaning. When I went back in January 2024 to have it done again, I had a new dentist, Dr. Wu. He gave me 2 painful shots in the gums for the right-side cleaning and did that cleaning with much less care than the previous dentist. Then a few weeks later I came in for the left-side cleaning, and after first going back and forth with front office staff about payment (I had never received a bill or paid them anything before, but now they were asking for partial payment up front), and after clarifying what my appointment was actually for (they thought it was a checkup), Dr. Wu showed up again. This time he gave me 4 painful anesthetic shots in the gums and hacked around in the left side of my mouth. I felt terrible the rest of the day, and my mouth was sore for several days. Then he also said I should come in every 6 months. The front office folks could not give me any info about what my insurance had or had not covered from my 2023 visits and did not make me pay anything. At least there's that! I saw the oral surgeon who visits Aspen Dental in Bloomington once a month. He was thorough, explained the procedure well, and was very professional. I could not be happier with that service. But then I tried to get the results of the biopsy. First I was told I could get them as soon as they come in. Then I was told I would need to hear about them in person. Then I was told they won't arrive at Aspen Dental at all, but at the office of the oral surgeon. I would still go to Aspen again, in order to get the expertise of that oral surgeon. Several months ago I made an appointment for a cleaning with the Aspen Dental office in Bloomington IN. I chose this office because, over the phone, a human assured me they accepted my dental plan. I arrived 10 min early, filled out all the paperwork. The three ladies at the desk agreed that there were no packets available for me to be able to complete the paper work. One of them eventually printed out the papre work and provided it to me. As I was completing the first of seven pages someone came for me, I explained that I was completing the paper work that I had just received. Aspen Dental is indeed an assembly line. They suck your money up, up front. Then, they create a plan that is highly expensive. When you arrive for teeth cleaning early in the day, the hygienist is great. Although she did admit she would only do one side because she "didn't want to sit here for two hours." The second visit was later in the day, and seemed much less thorough. Then, later when I was ten minutes away for a tooth extraction, the office called to ask if I was going to make it. I arrived before my appointed time, completed the paperwork, and listened as a patient in pain was turned away because she was not on the schedule. Apparently this was the second time. Finally, some shaved head goon came into the waiting room where I was the only person present, , did not look at me, and called my name. Then he told me that I would have to reschedule, since I wasn't there at appointment time even though I was and that my ride wasn't physically in the office, although she was nearby. I addressed both accusations. The final straw was when I heard the presumed oral surgeon stating that I would have to reschedule because of the already stated offenses. At that time I stood up and told the front desk staff that I was done, and thanked them. Then they all watched as my ride drove me home. I will never ask Aspen Dental to help me again, nor will I recommend them to anyone. In short, Aspen Dental sucks (your money.) I would give Aspen Dental zero stars if I could. Thanks , Stephanie S. Good-bye forever, Aspen Dental. Today's cleaning was a nightmare. The hygienist, who had never worked with me before, was rushing through the procedure. As a result, she ripped up the soft tissue in my mouth with the pick and then had the audacity to suggest that my dental hygiene was the cause of the bleeding that SHE caused. And further bad news: she is their ONLY hygienist. After my very specific complaint to the business manager, they still wanted to charge me $155--for a procedure that my dental insurance is supposed to cover in full. So, good-bye, Aspen Dental. I was and always been terrified of the Dentist and avoided going at all cost basically forever. Finally broke down and adulted and set up a consultation with Aspen. I needed alot of work, as I feared; deep cleaning, root canals, crowns, fillings, basically everything. They set me up with a treatment plan and not just a few short months later my smile is better than it has been in my life..period!!! I've literally hid my smile my whole life and now I want to show it off, I never dreamed they could do so much in such a short period of time! After waiting 40 minutes, in over-packed lobby (with increased COVID risk), I was informed that they close at 1 and are not doing cleaning. Everyone here was super nice and efficient! I was able to get in within a day, and I was able to schedule a cleaning and a wisdom tooth extraction within the next two weeks. Unfortunately I don't know if there is enough space in this review to expand on everything wrong with Aspen Dental. Let's talk money. Review their estimate carefully and DO NOT PAY UP FRONT. They tried to trick me into paying $135.00 for a toothbrush which I then declined. They required upfront payment at each visit and then when the insurance indicated my responsibility was much less than what I paid I have had to jump through many hoops to get a refund. The local office cannot refund your money. They can sure take it but not give it back! After speaking with them several times, today I was told that it would take 7 to 10 business days for the refund to be processed by corporate. Next, there is no coordination of schedules or even communication between the dentist and hygienist. I needed an extraction and periodontal cleaning. I was told to wait three weeks after the extraction by the dentist, but the hygienist called the day after the extraction because she had an opening that day. During my cleanings, the hygienist was called away several times to meet with other patients. Finally, their messaging service is aggressive in tone and inadequate given the available technology. I received an email stating that if I did not respond I was in danger of losing my appointment. I made the appointment, why should I have to call to keep the appointment. The text messages are no better. "It is important we hear from you today regarding your appointment", no date, no time. This message sounds like there is a problem but when I called they just wanted to remind me of the appointment. Recommendation; avoid this company. There are much better options in the Bloomington, IN area that treat their patients as people not dollar signs. read more

I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone getting dentures. My husband went and got their $300.00 dentures that ended up costing us 1000.00. They broke within 3 months the first time. They "fixed" them. They broke a second time. They "fixed" them. They broke a 3rd time and we had to pay to "fix" them because now they were out of warranty. Here it is 3 months later and they have broken AGAIN!!! Went in and seen the dentist who all but out right called my husband a lier to his face. She said the dentures couldn't have broken eating a gummy worm. YES A GUMMY WORM!! That is what broke theM the first 2 times. They wanted to charge us again to "fix" them a 4th time. No thank you Aspen Dental. Your dentures are cheaply made and you DO NOT STAND BEHIND YOUR WORK and you have gotten all the money from us that you are going to get. I have dentures that is over 10 years old and they have never broken even after me sneezing them out on concrete. If you want good dental work become a patient of the dental school. If I could give a zero I would. I absolutely love Dr Jansen but unfortunately the people in billing not so much. It wasn't until months after my procedure I'm receiving a bill for 3 times the amount I was originally quoted for a crown due to a limit on my insurance that no one informed me of. Then when I tried to set up a payment plan as I've done before I'm told " we don't do that here unless you go through care credit" which for now isn't an option for me. I had a 7am appointment this morning, and I showed up at 6:50 to find a dark empty parking lot, dark building and locked doors. I waited in my car until 7:15, still with no sign of anyone inside. I called the office number and it went to a recording that stated their business hours, including the fact that they should have been open at 7 this morning! I double and triple checked my email confirmation of the appointment, 7AM on Nov1. I had to rearrange my work schedule to fit this appointment in, and now it appears that I will need to do that again to reschedule, although I am seriously considering taking my business elsewhere. I will update this review with their response to my voicemail. Update November 15th: They gave me a call and told me that they were sorry, but that I must have had the date wrong. After again looking at my email confirmation, I assured her that I had the correct date. She finally agreed and told me that it must have been a computer glitch. They are sending me a $25 credit, which i appreciate. Unfortunately, they sent it so that the UPS guy needs an adult signature, and I work all day. I can't even sign the UPS notice and have them leave it at my door since it specifically asks for a signature of someone over 21. It's a gift card guys...not a shipment of precious diamonds!! I had top of the line dentures made here. In less than a year I had two teeth pop out, different teeth at different times. Both in the upper denture. Then the upper cracked from the front teeth to the roof of the mouth about an inch long. I voiced my displeasure of having all these problems within a year or so. I've had dentures for 30+ years (from another provider) and have never had these problems. They fixed the crack and was told to make an appointment to get them redone. Took my 4th day off work to get it done. When I got there they said I was there to get the lowers relined. I had never even mentioned of having a problem with them. Told them, no I was here to have the upper redone. They said no. They would not redo them and would only repair them if they broke again. So patch them together over and over is all they would do. They said the warranty was to fix them if they broke, not replace them. So if you don't mind inferior product and have plenty of time to take off work every few months this is the place for you! read more

This place is horrible!!! Had an appointment but when I got there they said it didn't exist I even showed them the confirmation text on my phone. Chalked it up to a computer glitch and rescheduled for 3 weeks later. Come in 3 weeks later and they said that I had called and canceled which I didn't and tried to give me some bull about how they would just reschedule me again. I asked to talk to the office manager who then said that It was my fault that I didn't verify my date of birth when they called to which I said they never called me and she said there is probably just another person who had my name and cancelled it. I work nights so to get up in the day to come here twice has really been a waste of time and missed sleep. Stay away!!! Worst customer service ever!!! Will never be coming back!! read more

I had a very good experience...especially considering the initial check-up and a bunch of x-rays were free! The x-ray tech was extraordinarily nice. I'm going back for a cleaning and they even offer a online coupon for that. The cleaning and fluoride treatment will be $102.40 total since I don't have dental insurance. read more

A very close friend recently got top and bottom dentures made at Aspen Dental in Bloomington, IN. Both fit very badly and cause a lot of pain. He has been back several times to have adjustments made, and they still don't fit correctly and cause a lot of pain. Now they refuse to let him speak with a dentist and just told him they will not make any more adjustments. He requested a refund and they told him they could refund half. There is a sign on the wall that says that if you don't like the way your dentures feel, they will give you a refund. How can they refuse to make any more adjustments? Got a filling replaced. Mostly good, except the doctor was late by an hour--defeating the purpose of getting there for a 7am appointment. They did it unacceptably but were willing to do it again until I was satisfied. That made a huge difference. read more
