This is probably one of my favorite coffee shops. I love coming here after work and on the weekends. Their coffee is GREAT. Every sip you take from every drink they have is perfection. It is very smooth and delicious. The atmosphere is great! The shop is very beautiful. The employees are very kind and patient. The owner is very nice and very passionate about coffee. He strives to make every cup of coffee he serves prefect. It is a very traditional coffee shop-VERY different from Starbucks. The drinks and sizes you see at Starbucks you won't find them here. If you are unsure what to get, you can always ask the cashier and they will kindly explain what every drink is and how it's made. Pretty good customer service; coffee dude even dropped by after a while and asked if our drinks were good. I thought that was a nice touch. I had the cold brew, which, unfortunately, I cannot recommend. I'm a coffee purist - I like rich, strong coffee. The cold brew here was so strong - to the point of tasting like the beans were burnt. I added cream, which I never do with cold brew, and then added even more cream before I could drink it. My daughter had an iced matcha and liked it. The place is clean, attractive and comfortable. I'll give them a try with a hot coffee next time. I'm confident that I will like it more. read more

I'm glad they've moved into the old Starbucks location by the theater. Merced needs great coffee. No fraps are offered here, which I appreciate. It's lovely to watch the coffee in your cup being roasted in house. There weren't many laptop users when I went on Sunday morning, so suffice to say, this place isn't Starbucks, so if you don't actually enjoy the taste of coffee, you might be at the wrong spot. When my friend came to visit me from the Clovis area, I decided that we both try out this place since it's fairly new & local. After reading the previous reviews, I learned that this location used to be a Starbucks. Once we found free street parking, we walked only a short distance to arrive at a quaint and beautifully minimalistic style café. To make things short: *The baristas there welcomed us warmly & treated us kindly *The rose latté (which I learned used to be a special for Valentine's Day only) I had & the mocha latté my friend had were absolutely divine & reminded me of just how unique a local coffee shop is in comparison to coffee chain tastes *The interior was clean & organized, with beautiful black/white thematic design *They have their own roasts! Second time here and just passing through Merced. When we walked in the girl working was sitting on the counter with her shoes while on her phone. They were really slow but I found this off putting. I work at a coffee shop and I would never dream of putting my shoes on the counter. That's for sure a health code violation! And the employee was just a bit unwelcoming. But I order the California Persian iced tea, it's extremely delicious and refreshing unsweetened! I also order the rosé latte iced because I had a long drive home. It's pretty good but I liked the tea better. I love to support local coffee and I truly enjoy this place but I really don't want to order food or anything I consume where it's going to come in contact with anything this employee has stepped on. Shoes are filthy and they shouldn't be on a good service counter. I would give this one star but their beverage quality is good. My husband and I were downtown running errands and passed by ASIP. There used to be a Starbucks here, so we were surprised to see a new business. We had about 30 minutes to kill before our next stop, so we popped in. I tried one of their loose-leaf black tea blends (I'm ashamed I can not remember the name now, but I know it was a black/green/rose/orange blend), my husband had a Mexican mocha, and we split a croissant. My tea: If you order a "for here" cup, you get a lovely delicate service of a glass teapot and a small (6 oz?) Cup on a wooden tray. The gentleman who took our order recommended I let the tea steep for about 3 minutes before pouring. I got a small cup of oat-milk on the side (their other non-dairy choice is soy). Once the time passed, I took my first sip, and was immediately enveloped by the aroma of rose and orange (I'm normally an Earl Grey drinker, so I loved the pairing), followed by the tang of green and richness of black. The oat milk went very nicely with the cup, softening it a bit without overwhelming it. I got about 4 "little cups" out of the pitcher. I would recommend not letting the pot rest too long, as it started getting rather bitter by the last cup. This blend is meant to be steeped the allotted time and strained. A lovely blend overall, and one is certainly get again. His Mocha: The foam-art was a pretty little feather with a dusting of cocoa at the base. My husband wished for a slightly deeper cup, as his was filled right to the brim, and he was worried about spilling it on the way to our table. He enjoyed the spicy richness of the mocha, and didn't find it too sweet or heavy. The croissant: This little gem was a bit of a surprise. I saw it and it's friends in the display and started drooling a tiny bit. I'm a carb-junkie by nature, and they were just so pretty! The gentleman taking our order informed us they were baked fresh that morning, and I could tell. I love a good croissant with my tea, and figured it would go well with my husband's drink as well, so we ordered one to split. Oh, ho ho.... that's when the magic happened. When we tore into the bread, what greeted us was nothing less than a shining beacon of flaky, crispy layers, and NUTELLA. OMG... it was filled with Nutella! I was expecting a regular old butter croissant, but this was a croissant to the third-degree. Nomnomnom The decor has the look and feel of a typical up-scale, classy, hipster coffeehouse. Lots of white and gray tile (beautiful, btw) with stunning wood and succulent accents. My husband and I loved the wood-slab communal table in the middle of the room, and I'm not going to lie, I wanted to steal one of the stools. They hug your booty like a cozy pair of jeans, and I never felt uncomfortable or had to shift around after sitting for awhile. I dropped my rating to 4-star, rather than 5, for a couple minute reasons. One - while I loved to peaceful and calm vibe of the store (a pleasant change from the rushed and loud feel most Starbucks have nowadays), it was almost too quiet. At one point, we were the only people in the place (other than the manager), and it was kind of awkward. I would have liked some subtle background noise - music, nature sounds, whatever. Two - the aforementioned cup-size issue. It's not a "problem"... just a suggestion to minimize spills and sloshing. Three - with the tea becoming a little bitter after sitting for too long, it would have been nice to have a larger cup to pour into, or at least the ability to remove the leaves from the pot to stop it steeping too long. Driving through town from the Bay Area to Bass Lake we found this place and on our way back home, we had to stop again. Modern aesthetic, and interesting coffee drink options. We opted for the Matte Black and it was a highly unusual latte with flavors you would not expect to see paired. This is an excellent millennial/hipster coffee shop. These guys/gals really know what they're doing. The pour -over, Chinese single origin coffee I had was perfectly executed. It wasn't over extracted. The flavor was very robust and the barista did a fantastic job of bringing out the flavor profile of the coffee, every coffee snob's dream. Excellent gourmet coffee store. Love it. Unfortunately they don't offer coconut milk, but they offer oat milk which tasted much Better than soy or almond milk. Stuff is young and fun. I wish they have comfortable chairs to sit and relax at your lunch. Seats are trendy and nice looking but not really comfortable to sit a little longer. Overall this place is much better than Dunking Donuts and better coffee than Starbucks, but lacks some design and aura feel Starbucks offers. throw on some headphones - play some cello, order a nice mexican hot chocolate ( or whatever you choose ) and get your study on or just people watch. this is the perfect place to come if you need some simple relaxation or peace. I recently started my emt certification class and it has been extremely stressful; but the environment in asip is so welcoming and gives a real homey feel - that stress has almost completely disappeared. Coming into asip almost like sitting on grandmas porch with some pourage and a nice story book. if anyone can relate. But, I was sorely disappointed in the lack of variety of coffee drinks with only one type of milk, one almond milk and one soy milk. I'm going to preface this review and say that I dislike Starbucks, and believe in supporting local businesses. Currently they're going through a soft opening. So I'm not sure when the hours are, but more information can be found on social media (FB). ASIP Coffee is located right next to the the movie theater in the same location as Starbucks (based on google street view). There's plenty of street parking, and it's located next to several restaurants. The menu is simple, and straight forward you won't see any zombie/unicorn fraps. It's pretty much coffee (cold brew, pour over, drip), espresso drinks, and non-coffee (Chai latte, matcha latte, Mex hot chocolate, and tea). I ordered the cold brew, and it was refreshing (smooth/flavorful). If you're hungry they also carry pastries. I will be back to try the hot drinks, and possibly take some coffee home. read more

Been here several times. Merced's first '3rd wave' coffee place. They have the usual gimmicks that can be found at similar places, but they fall short in some areas most importantly the product itself. Their espresso roast needs improvement. It can be bitter at times, and the bitterness comes out even in a cappuccino. But they do foam the milk pretty good. Service can be inconsistent at times as well. Hopefully they improve the drinks and service to justify their premium prices. read more
