My return flight to the States was through British Airways. It was my first time flying this…read moreairline, and I was a little nervous as I've heard horror stories. Flying out of Heathrow was an absolute pain, yes, but the flight experience itself was alright overall. I played economy roulette. Paying for a seat on British Airways is astronomical even in economy. Therefore, I waited until the last minute to check in and the airline gods had favor on me. I guess all economy seats had been booked, so I was placed in the bulkhead for economy premium. Holy cow, what a night and day different experience. Being able to stretch my legs out was INCREDIBLE! I actually even dozed off for a bit too.
Now, there's two reasons why they didn't receive 4 stars.
1 - Our luggage didn't make it onto the plane (along with 70 other peoples'), so we had to file delayed baggage reports. It took 36 hours to be reunited, and the group they used to deliver the bags called and texted me at 11 pm when I had work the next morning. I was already asleep. The delivery time said 5:39 am, but they weren't delivered until 11 am the next morning. I noticed the missed messages in the middle of the night, and that made it hard to fall back to sleep.
2 - They had three dinner options on the plane: pasta, lamb, and chicken. For whatever reason, they started dinner service in the back of the plane and pushed forward, so I was one of the very last people served dinner. I don't eat chicken or lamb, and they told me they were out of pasta. I explained my restrictions, and the FA replied that in the future I should preorder as vegetarian.
I explained I'm not vegetarian, I just specifically do not eat lamb or chicken and didn't think it'd be an issue with a pasta option. Fortunately, another FA randomly found one last pasta in her cart so it was fine, but I didn't love the first FA's tone. My boyfriend was on the other side of the plane and said the FAs were pretty sassy over there, too. I understand it's not a super pleasant job, but oof.
Also, after all of that, I had maybe 15 minutes to eat before they came through to take trays away. It was soooo fast. The pasta itself was good at least.
I don't think I'd seek out BA in the future for flights if I can reasonably avoid them. But that random premium economy upgrade was lovely.
