Full disclosure: this is a biased review because I have been training here for almost 5 years now…read moreand am an official member of the #wushuohana. That said, if you are looking to train in contemporary/traditional external wushu or internal wushu (taiji quan, bagua Zhang, and qigong) on Oahu, this is a good place to do it! The Wushu Center's team of volunteers do their best to provide a wushu training atmosphere full of aloha spirit. We offer quality wushu instruction to all skill levels, with after school programs suitable for children 5 and up. Contemporary competitive wushu is the biggest draw for the younger students, as it is often featured in the movies and TV (Jet Li, Kung Fu Panda, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Jackie Chan) and it is a fun and challenging way to get and stay in shape, make friends, and participate in an internationally competitive sport with surging popularity and modern appeal. Many older youths and adults also enjoy the "internal" wushu classes in Taiji Quan and Bagua Zhang (eight-trigram Palm), which offer excellent holistic wellness and fitness routines while also teaching and building useful and effective self defense skills. The Hawaii Wushu Center is also one of the few places in the US that you can find authentic Yin Family Bagua Zhang, which is pretty special, if you look into it. ;) Ok, I'll wrap this shameless plug up now with another welcome: Aloha E Komo Mai: come join our Wushu Ohana!

They are just so nice! Super friendly environment. You can take kung fu classes and they learn lion dance at the end of class. There are performances and also competitions you may participate in. My daughter had to take a break for a bit due to her school activities but is planning to be back in no time once she's done with this main project she's currently working on. She misses them so much! Love the opportunities they give to the children and adults can take lessons too! I highly recommend!

We hired Au's Shaolin Arts Society to perform at both our wedding and our daughter's 1st birthday…read moreparty. Both performances were exceptional. They arrived on time with 3 lions (2 large and 1 small). They asked us to provide a head cabbage with money inside the lai see (good luck) red envelope and hold it up at the front stage. The performers did a great job working the crowd and they included adult as well as youth lion dancers. During the performance the lion would dance around the guests collecting good luck money from them and eventually made its way to the front of the stage where it devoured the head cabbage and lai see envelope. In gratification, good fortune and blessings it spit out the cabbage. It was a great way to celebrate both occasions by spreading good luck while chasing away the evil spirit. Additionally, our guests loved the entertainment and hype it brought

Parking was extremely hard to find. For someone visiting or a first timer, the map on google is…read moreincorrect. It is actually up a set up stairs directly on top of the cross fit gym, and jiu jitsu gym. Parking is tight here people usually park across the street behind a chain link fence. Street parking is also available on the whole side of the roads. I wouldn't risk it parking in a designated business spot in their tiny parking lot. That aside.... We Decided to visit this place through meetups app while on vacation for a breath workshop with Hunter. I had been looking a month ago at things I would love to do while out if our normal area, for classes and workshops to add to my training. I was glad I found this one! Once in, and talking to the instructor He said they're trying new classes out, and currently his is donation based, (but I'm sure it could change in the future), and to bring your own mat/ blanket etc for a rejuvenating intro to breath on weds at 6pm for 45 minutes. I am Yoga Nidra certifies, and this very much so reminded me of that with breath work. However, we were consciously awake and checked up on constantly through the practice. An awesome experience for those that need to tune in to themselves and out of the world. Great for people visiting the island looking to relax on a deeper level, and for locals who need to get back in touch with their innermost. Strongly suggest! I like that this studios energy seems very balanced, safe, and comfortable. It's very chill and welcoming, as was Hunter. Thanks for the lovely experience, and for hosting such awesome events for people on meetup app! Hope to visit next time I'm in the area :0)

Chi Kung, Kung Fu, Tai Chi are just some of what are offered. They also host workshops on varied topics conducted by themselves, as well as other community members. Workshops such as "Heal Your Back & Neck Pain", "Building Better Balance" have provided me with tools for life. My back and neck are the most comfortable they have been in years. I started with Tai Chi and discovered so much else to learn. In addition to Chi Kung, I'm enjoying kettlebell and a variety of strength training. My flexibility has tremendously improved, too. At times, it's been challenging, but I enjoy learning new things and feeling well. The quality of teaching is very high here. Bruno is very patient, humble, and knowledgable beyond his years. He is an exceptional teacher and the reason for my first yelp review. I've learned more from him in one year than the 20 years I invested in gym memberships. This is not an exaggeration. Other students have told me that Catherine is an excellent teacher, as well. If you enjoy learning new things and enjoy feeling well, give San Bao Center a try.
