We ordered the green onion cakes , shrimp fried rice , mixed vegetables in a garlic chilli sauce, and of course the ginger beef. . Onion cakes were crispy golden brown The vegetables were perfect with the sauce .. highly recommend. As for the ginger beef . Really delicious. If you're in St Albert and want good Chinese food... Wow... I wonder how Asian Connection stay in business. The worse Chinese take out ever! It may have been a four star BUT NOW... I ordered Dry Ribs, Green Onion Cakes and House Chow Mein. I was totally embarrassed to share this with a close friend. The dry ribs???? HAVE you ever had dry ribs that are coated and then deep-fried? It actually looked like the ribs that had been previously cooked and then coated and then deep-fried. I was hesitant but tried one..Most horrible ribs I have had in my life. And horrible taste.. The green onion cakes had zip taste and were just plain awful. One taste which I ended spitting out. House chow mein, what a joke. I would say 3/4 noodles with chicken... what chicken....maybe a look alike chicken. Very few vegetables...maybe fresh a while ago.. My bill $40 +... for food which we couldn't eat. We haven't ordered from Asian connection in years and decide to try it again. It was the best Chinese food we have had in a long time! Ed had the dinner for 2 and everything was so fresh and tasty. Ginger beef was tender and crispy, and the sauce was very flavourful, beef broccoli was fresh and veggies cooked perfectly, even fried rice was delicious. Great service and very disappointing food. The restaraurant was very clean and our server was impeccable. We ordered spring rolls ( looked like they came from a grocerie store), Singapore noodles and Mongolian beef. Compared to most of the restaurants we go to it was expensive and low quality and small servings. The predominant flavour was SALT and more SALT. Very little ingredients even at half the price they charge. It was so far off their competition I felt I had to inform other diners. Sadly, the spring rolls were the highlight of the meal. The owner / cook is greedy beyond acceptable limits and puts no passion into his food in my opinion. Again, kudos to our Chinese server, she is a gem. read more

I might be a touch biased since growing up this was my family's go-to "we're not cooking tonight" order-in dinner, every couple of weeks or so. I can't hate on family tradition, especially a family tradition this tasty. I can't think of anything from the menu I've tried and haven't liked. Spring rolls, chicken balls, and ginger beef are a few of my favs, but the sweet and sour pork also ranks right up there. Even the rice is super yummy. They've never gotten our order wrong, and nothing has been colder than super hot. They always throw in however many fortune cookies we ask for, and often each cookie has more than one fortune - that just means extra lottery numbers for my dad. read more

I'm not sure if I'll ever find a good chinese restaurant! Asian Connection may be better then most but I guess my standards are too high coming from Little China (Vancouver). Pros: They deliver, include chopsticks, soy and fortune cookies. Cons: Smallish dishes, could barely see the beef inside the szchewan beef dish, and the noodles in the vegetable chow mein were of the instant variety. And for those two dishes I paid $22?! I will say it's better than the other place across the street but honestly that doesn't say much. No more chinese food for me! read more

Alrighty so here's Timmy's Takes. Overall I would leave them a solid 4.7/5 stars. At first the aroma from the bag tantalized my senses as I was driving home. Top points for sustainability for longer drives. We ordered the dinner for four to get a good selection of all of our OG favourites and to give this restaurant with a solid review. Packaging is what you'd expect from a typical Chinese food restaurant. Nothing glam about it. But that's ok, we knew full well going into this, it was about the food and not the presentation. What I can tell you is the flavours from this dish were so aromatic, my mouth literally watered with the opening of every container. The fresh bouquet of lemons as I popped the lid on the lemon chicken sauce left me with memories of my time traipsing through my grandfathers humble country home in Paris. The fresh scents of ginger wafting from the ginger beef container was beautiful, a single tear dropped down my cheek as I was suddenly flooded with memories of my time in the old country visiting my family friends ginger farm. Next up was the sweet and sour pork, living up exactly to its name, it left me perplexed on the complexities of flavours that this dish truly exudes. However these chefs know, without knowing me at all that nothing speaks to me more than garlic. The whole vegetables, king sized bok choy, and tenderly sliced pieces of beef slathered in this delicious garlicy goodness of the beef with vegetables had me entrapped in its beauty. Such complexity of flavours wrapped in unassuming packages. The individually portioned wonton soups were a delicious add on to the meal. Explosion of flavour pockets stuffed with perfectly seasoned meat left me thankful for the generous helping of wontons in each container. What was lacking for me was the doughy ness of the wontons themselves. A little too slimy for my liking but the flavour of the broth and meat well made up for it. Finished off with a classic specialty fortune cookie hand picked just for me left me completely satisfied. Overall this meal was a genius success and I will be back!! read more

While visiting friends in St. Albert we decided to check it out. I don't usually write these, but the horrible food and lack of service has compelled me to warn other people about this restaurant. The food was cold and taste like it was full of nothing but MSG. The vegetables were Discoloured and some of the beef strips were still RAW!....This is completely unacceptable and has potential to give someone food poisoning. Not only was the food sub-par but our waiter was rude and obnoxious. We asked about the discolouration and about the meat but was informed that this is how it is made. Since I am Chinese myself and travel to Hong Kong on a yearly basis I know this is NOT how it is suppose to be prepared. If I could give 0 stars I would but unfortunately I have to give a 1. read more

The food lacked flavour. I bought the family of four meal, with a side of satay beef. the sweet and sour pork, lemon chickn, and ginger beef all lacked flavor (minus the sauce). However the rice was OK. Not worth $60. I won't be going back. The "chinese food" they have at Safeway around the corner is better quality. read more

This place is brutal. I am someone who can put up with a lot at restaurants and gives them the benefit of the doubt. I do not like to complain, but this was appalling. The food was not good at all. The Ginger Beef was about 95% mushroom and 2% beef with like 3% onion. It didn't even taste gingery and was not deep fried, which does not bother me but it is what is expected. EVERYTHING, including the rice, had chop suey in it...so it was a waste of money to pay for an additional chop suey meal. The lemon chicken was pasty and had a lot of doughy on it. The doughy was very much so undercooked and seemed like it was a day old. I tried an egg chunk in the fried rice, and it tasted so bad...who screws up egg? The fried rice itself was not even fried and did not taste good. The shanghai noodles were bad and also had chop suey in it. All around the food sucked. What should have tipped me off is that when I called to order it, they said it would be ready in 15 minutes...so does that mean it just sits in a warmer, because most places say 30 minutes. On top of it, the service was terrible. On the menu they say if you pick up on orders over $30 there is a 10% discount; they fail to say it is only applied when payed with cash. But yet EVERY OTHER Chinese food place applies it to ALL payment methods. On top of it, the debit machine automatically gives them a 15% tip...for what? We called to ask them about the discount and such and they HUNG UP ON US! I will NEVER EVER EVER go there again. TL; DR - Do NOT eat here. It is not worth your money, time, or empty stomach. read more

The food wasn't great but preference is subjective. I will never order from this restaurant again because I don't enjoy being ripped off. Our delivery order was over $80 which is fine, but they send out their driver without change. We only had $20's so that's a pretty steep tip, which considering it took over an hour to get our order and we are less than 10 minutes away, the delivery service wasn't exactly impressive. After he left I noticed we hadn't received our spring rolls, so I telephoned the restaurant and let them know. I was told that she would let the kitchen and delivery driver know right away, but apparently that didn't mean we would be reimbursed or actually get what we had payed for. We never heard from them again. And they won't hear from us again either. read more
