rice and vegetables in a paper container

Very Rude staff. We ordered chicken and rice but bowl was full of rice only. She just served us remaining chicken. Very disappointing experience.

The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Food going out is always fresh or it's not served.

This is fast food for sure but my kids love it. If you are expecting fine dinning this is not the place.

Took the whole fam jam, including Gramma, out to Wok House last night in St. Albert. We've been…read moreeagerly awaiting the opening this past week because their banner outside read: Chinese, Dim Sum, Bubble Tea! Yep, that's right - St. Albert now has Dim Sum and Bubble Tea!!! The location is in the old Banana Leaf Restaurant next door to Simply Donair in the same strip mall as Dairy Queen. We were greeted by a friendly family who let us choose anywhere in the restaurant to sit - kiddos opted for the booth/bench option. The decor was modern and clean. The menu variety REALLY surprised me and all Dim Sum is cooked to order rather than coming around on carts. We decided we might as well go hard and try stuff from all parts of the menu. First off, we ordered bubble teas: Fresh fruit mango dairy free with sago, fresh fruit peach dairy free with sago, and milky matcha green tea with sago. ALL WERE EXCELLENT. The waitress waited to see if I liked he matcha because she warned that it's not very sweet and said she could make it sweeter if I preferred but I'm a matcha monster and this was exactly what I was looking for :-) Next up, they brought out a couple of small appetizers for us to share in celebration of their opening - spring roll, tempura shrimp, and a dry garlic rib: all were excellent with my 7 year old requesting more of each! We decided to share the dinner for 2 which came with spring rolls, chicken fried rice, 2 bowls of soup (won ton and hot & sour were both decent) and 2 entree choices: we selected Honey Pepper Shrimp (DIVINE) and sliced Szechuan beef. Both of the mains were good and flavourful with a good amount of sauce. Everyone in our group noted that the use of onions was pretty heavy and more peppers, corn, carrots, etc. would be nice. I'd say the dishes were at about 1/3 white onions - usually this is a deal breaker for me but the sauces and meat quality were superb. Next up was our never ending sampling of Dim Sum: Pork Buns - $4.99 good but smaller than most; my daughter didn't care for them here and neither did Gramma (not sure why). Sticky Rice (Excellent but it only comes with 2 small leaves for $4.99 - this could be vastly improved by adding a 3rd one for that price or putting more rice in each banana leaf. Literally, the banana leaves had less than 1/2 of the amount of rice you would have at Jumbo). Beef skewers - not as pictured and not up to snuff in my opinion for $4.99 for 2. Green Onion Cake - $4.99 a standard that my kids will insist on every visit though I prefer mine to be a little crunchier. Pan fried meat dumplings - $4.99 standard but they don't bring red wine vinegar or whatever that sauce is most Dim Sum places serve with it. Curried Squid - $4.99 Excellent and tender but I would LOVE the sauce to be a bit thicker and more plentiful to pour all over my rice :-) We'd order 80% of the food again and to be able to have Dim Sum in St. Albert any day of the week at any time, we will most DEFINITELY be returning here. Even if Mom and Dad want regular Chinese food, the kids in our house will jump for joy at Sticky Rice, Green Onion Cakes, and Bubble Tea! Service was friendly but slow tonight with our dishes coming as much as 60 minutes apart - YIKES! But I won't fault them on this as they work out their bugs, hopefully in the future we will get things (like rice) before the rest of the meal. Cheers Wok House, can't wait to come back! P.S. They deliver, too!

Ordered a variety of dishes. It was okay, not that flavourful. Did not speak good English,…read moredifficult to comprehend what waitress was saying. Ordered to go. They use reusable containers, which is nice. $55 for 4 dishes.

Flies in the cool/cold food area buffet :-( Some items were okay and others were the worst I have had :-( specifically the wontons tastes like dish water broth. The beef in the beef and broccoli had a texture unlike anything I've had before although the broccoli was juicy and crisp! I also would not recommend the hot and sour soup which had so much gelatin in it and was hard to scoop. The spicy chicken was okay and both the rice and noodles were a hit with my kiddos. The stir fried veggies and fried mushroom were pretty good. The pork skewers were probably my favorite. The spring rolls were disappointing filled with mostly noodles. Our plates were slow to be cleared and my water wasn't refilled. I wish I could say it looked like an off night and we would try again but given the dirty walls behind the buffet and filthy window blinds, I'm afraid we just won't be giving this one a try again.

There are legendary restaurants in Edmonton and then there's The Lingnan. Open since 1947 (that's…read more78 years!!!) you would be hard pressed to find an Edmontonian that doesn't have some sort of relationship with this famed Chinese restaurant, its food, or the family who runs it. Speaking of the Quons, they have become celebrities in their own right especially after their family was featured in a season of the TV series The Family Restaurant in 2009 followed by The Quon Dynasty in 2011. The matriarch of the family, Amy Quon, is well known for her warm and friendly demeanor and the way that she takes time to visit with guests. The Lingnan was the first Chinese restaurant in Edmonton and most people would likely tell you that it remains the best. VUE Weekly named The Lingnan the #1 Best Chinese 2018. The Edmonton Journal has voted them Best/Favourite Chinese Restaurant 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. And EDify Magazine awarded them the Best Chinese Restaurant 2023 title. The list of accolades is long and with good reason. I have personally eaten at The Lingnan many times over the years and I have always appreciated their quality and consistency. I decided to pay them a visit on a recent Sunday evening to revisit this Chinese institution. Located in Central McDougall right behind Rogers Place, the restaurant's tall vertical signage and red and yellow paint cannot be mistaken. They've also got a really cool mural painted on the side of the building. The interior is impressive, expansive, and ornate. Entering the restaurant you'll first be greeted by a life-size bronze statue of a Chinese warrior. Next you'll marvel at their large (and very clean!) aquarium stocked with giant goldfish. The space will take your breath away and there is certainly no where else like it in the city. Every inch is beautifully decorated and the colours of red and gold create the palette. Intricate Chinese lanterns hang from the ceiling. The tiling, the art, and the gilded accents stretch as far as the eye can see. There are at least three different dining rooms and many of these areas can be sectioned off to create even more spaces. Each table is covered with a white table cloth and servers in traditional Chinese clothing hurry about the room. A reservation is highly recommended because even on a Sunday night every single table was occupied and there was a lineup of people waiting to be seated. The Lingnan's patrons are loyal, many of them having spent their entire lives eating meals at the restaurant. A feast for the eyes, simply dining at The Lingnan is an experience in itself. Once seated and settled it was difficult to ignore the flurry of activity all around. Happy customers enjoying their meals, the aroma of delicious plates of food passing by, and the gorgeous jade-coloured ceiling with a dragon in the center of it. Looking for a beverage to match the atmosphere, a warm cup of Chinese Jasmine Tea would've been a wonderful choice. However, I ventured to the cocktail menu for something a bit more special. The China Moon (Soho Lychee, Hipnotiq, Blue Curacao, pineapple - $10.00) caught my attention. A beautiful green-hued beverage to match the ceiling overhead! I appreciated the list of custom cocktails, created to suit the restaurant. Seemingly a modern addition, these drinks elevate the dining experience by complimenting the food and overall ambiance. I loved this sweet, easy-drinking beverage and the flavours of lychee and pineapple were a delight. It's very chic to be sitting with a China Moon in hand. Like any good Chinese restaurant, take-out is a major component of the business. However, another more recent update has been the addition of a buffet. For the exceedingly reasonable price of $31 (every day of the week) you can feast upon some of The Lingnan's most popular dishes. I have enjoyed the buffet on several occasions in the past but on this particular visit I was interested in sampling some of the restaurants more upscale and unique dishes. But first let's take a moment for the Dry Spicy Chicken. An entire blog could be written about this dish alone. In fact, this chicken used to have its own restaurant. A true staple Edmontonian dish and affectionately nicknamed "crack chicken," we all mourn the loss of Chicken for Lunch. Operating out of the Rice Howard Place food court (lunchtime on weekdays only) and run by Amy Quon herself, this place used to attract immense lineups. Why? I mean, they did sell a variety of items but everyone was there for the addictive Hot and Dry chicken. Amy always treated everyone like they were someone special and she still does. With Chicken for Lunch gone, all is not lost because this famous chicken is still on the menu at The Lingnan! Available in both appetizer and entree sizes, I could not imagine visiting the restaurant without ordering it. On this visit I went for the Appetizer Dry Spicy Chicken ("Amy's Chicken." Breast meat strips lightly battered and stir fried with our home made chili oil
