I came here for lunch and ordered the fried dumplings and Seafood combo with white rice. The dumplings were ok and the soy sauce it came with tasted alright. When they gave me the entree I noticed right away I was served fried rice and it was on the dry side. The entree itself was ok. I could tell they used artificial crab meat and the veggies tasted like it came from a can. What made me give such a low rating was the customer service. I was the only person in there for a while and when a new customer did come in it the waiter several minutes to get her to go order. The was true for the couple that came in a few minutes later. The icing on the cake was the waiter was not dressed properly and the kitchen was playing music so loud I could hear it in the dining area . Never got a chance to try their food. It seems like the business only do take out still. And there is no sign nor anyway at the door when we went. You can only open one side of the door, and it was half way blocked so people only can get their take out but would not be able to enter the diner. read more

Reasonably good small town Chinese restaurant that actually makes spicy food. Sat down for a Friday night after movie dinner (730 ish). The rule for most buffet places is never order the buffet when it is empty or late. As it was definitely on the empytish side, we ordered off the menu. Not that the wait staff wanted us to - they kept asking, "so, you want the buffet?" Well, I am just not going to eat hot table food that has been sitting there for some unknown amount of time. Although I will concede it did not look totally desiccated. Eventually they took our order, and it was good. And by good I mean on that sliding scale based on how far you are away from a big city. The Mai Fun was well made and tasty, as was the Schezwan Pork. And the Pork was a totally spicy enough for me, which was great. To often small town restaurants spicy food is ... well, not. Went in and order (3) shrimp egg rolls. I went to get away from the counter and he called me back over. My order was ready. I asked for a package of soy sauce. Went to to my truck and opened the bag up to see how they were packaged because, that was fast and I had never been there before, they were wrapped each in a separate wax bag. Ripped one open and it was pork. All (3) of them were pork. I don't eat pork and decided not to go back in because, the headache to go back in was worth the $6. I tossed them and went on with my day. The only Asian food place in Platteville worth mentioning. I have been going here for decades. Consistent!!! That is hard to do. I mean, I remember when the owners daughter was like 4 or 5 and running around the restaurant and is now helping run the place. The food, oof, the food!!! Lived other places across the country, and it was never as good. Legit, these are good people with a good restaurant. I am a sucker for the lo mein and the chicken and broccoli, even though I HATE broccoli. I don't like giving such positive reviews, but... I love this place so much! read more

Delivered a catered order and everything was great! Service was on time, hot and there was plenty for everyone. I was especially pleased with the Crab Rangoon's, quite tasty! We tried this restaurant thinking that it might be better than China One in Dodgeville (I live in Dodgeville), but it's not. I've yet to find a great Chinese Restaurant West of Madison (Hong Kong Cafe is the only really GREAT Chinese place I've visited in Wisconsin). Asian Cafe was just ok - we actually had leftovers afterwards, which rarely happens - my kids LOVE Chinese food. It's a 20-minute drive home from the restaurant, so we expect some degradation - but the food just wasn't compelling. The sauces were sweet, but not flavorful. Gen Tsau's Chicken should be spicy, it shouldn't basically be Sesame Chicken without the seeds. I suppose the search for great Chinese in Wisconsin goes on... until then, China One is the best of what's out there.... West of Madison that is. read more

I was in Platteville for work for a week and went to this place twice! It was delicious! I had general tso chicken and fried rice both times! Food was fresh and hot!! Ahh, Asian Cafe. Now that I am out of college, I miss ordering delivery when hungover, particularly the delicious crab rangoon. I have yet to find better crab rangoon anywhere else now that I have moved away. The restaurant's ambiance is nice, even if it is attached to the Piggly Wiggly. This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have experienced. I was having dinner by myself and ordered the steamed dumplings which were huge and there were six for $3.95.. they could have been a meal by themselves!! Then I ordered the shrimp and cashews with steamed rice and it would easily have fed two of us. The total with a large glass of plumb wine was just $18.15 before tip. Great service too. Asian Cafe is a sit down restaurant that offers take-out as well as delivery. They have a buffet on Fridays and Saturdays of what is available on the menu. Their delivery minimum is $10.00. I prefer Asian Cafe because it tends to be less greasy and your food is made to order. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. Asian Cafe is also one of the few restaurants in Platteville that has an atmosphere where a suit and tie would not look completely out of place. read more

*******FOUND A BLACK HAIR*********** Went out for lunch with my grandmother and niece, no one was there eating besides us. WE ALL HAD **BLONDE** HAIR at the time. I ordered orange chicken and fried rice I order my niece chicken fingers and fries. My second bite into the orange chicken, i found a long black hair while i was going for another bite. I call a waitress over, to show her the hair she is a older lady maybe 50s with short black hair. At this point i gave her the hair and asked for a refund since i was discussed. She claimed it came from us, i laughed and said we all have bleach blonde hair at this table how is that possible. She said no one in the kitchen has long black hair. Shes holding the hair at this point Drops it on the colorful dark carpet in there and gets on her hands and knees and looks for the hair. Again, im laughing and tell her to get up you just held the hair and the carpet is dark you won't find it. My grandma insisted she pays ( no conflict person) and out of those kitchen doors walks a younger lady with long black hair pined up with a hair net over her hair.. NO OFFER OF REFUND OR SUBSTITUTE OF FOOD!!!!!!! i haven't been back since, ill go to china buffet or dubuque before i ever give them business. read more

Recently went. We were encouraged to get the buffet after asking for a menu. No one told us they wouldn't bring out any additional food. For a family of four, what was left was barely enough to feed one person. Another family was experiencing the same problems as we all fought over any food that remained. The food we were able to try was absolutely delicious. I would order from the menu next time and save money but not getting the really crappy buffet. read more

I love Asian Cafe. It's certainly one of my favorite places to eat in Platteville. The tofu(they call it bean curd) is delicious. The vegetables always taste fresh, and no MSG is used in any of their dishes which is always a plus. No matter what you get, it will be delicious and affordable.
