I went in with high expectations for this place, but unfortunately, it was a big letdown…read more Food - 1/5 The food felt very Americanized, like it relied heavily on pre-packaged or bottled sauces rather than fresh flavors. It lacked soul and that authentic Thai touch. The house noodles were pale and bland, with shrimp that added little to no flavor. The Bangkok chicken was overly sweet and tasted like it came straight from a bottle. The fish with chili was also strange--several dishes had lettuce mixed in, which felt out of place and didn't work with the flavors. Overall, it's hard to describe the taste, but it reminded me of a slightly better version of P.F. Chang's rather than real Thai cuisine and it's not even the same cuisine. That's the best thing I can compare it to. Service - 4/5 The staff was friendly, and my pickup order was quick and efficient. One downside was that I wasn't asked about spice level when ordering. I didn't even know they used a 1-5 scale until I overheard another customer's order, which was disappointing. Overall I wouldn't return. I'd rather drive an extra 10-15 minutes for a more authentic Thai meal with real depth, culture, and flavor. For 75$ I hardly feel it was worth it.

The service was very very quick and the staff were incredibly kind, and the atmosphere was lively but not too crowded. We ordered the pad Thai, which was very saucy and seasoned beautifully, with perfectly cooked shrimp. We also got the Thai Royal Chicken which was crispy yet juicy, and the sauce complemented the rice perfectly. AND the dishes came with egg drop soup! We were so satisfied, and the best part was, it was so affordable ($11.75 per dish). 10/10, definitely worth a try!

A wonderful hidden ethnic gem surrounded by a sea of mediocre American food! I know Chef Thai is a…read morebit off the beaten path for most people, but it is a wonderful little spot in "downtown" China Grove. Sadly, there is just not much as far as decent selection within at least 30+ minutes driving in the area. However, Chef Thai is exactly what I expect and want from a wonderful Thai restaurant; slightly tacky decorations, nothing fancy, and wonderful smelling aromas coming from the kitchen! As of now June 2022, they are ONLY DOING TAKE OUT. So if you want to eat there, please call to see if they are open. They do take orders for takeout by phone as well. The staff I have dealt with are always very pleasant and they are extremely fast for the quality of food. My first time in I was delighted to see they had my favorite Thai specialty on the menu, Pad Prik Khing, and it may be the best rendition of it I have had anywhere! As with most places they offer their entree in a range of spice, I typically get "hot" and it is not as hot a a lot of other places, so if you want really hot, go for "Thai hot". Chef Thai is definitely a great place and I hope they continue to do well as they are definitely one of the best quality restaurants in the surrounding area, even though they may not be very well known.
