The first time I went to Asia Gourmet was when I first moved here five years ago. I felt that the food was not nearly as good as other restaurants that I've had in the past. I had read reviews before going so at that point I had not tried the chicken but I had gotten beef fried rice and beef and broccoli I found it to be significantly overcooked. The broccoli was mush and the rice was also significantly overcooked. The food lacked flour and the service was subpar at best. I have friends that love this restaurant, so I did try it again and had the same experience. My mother had gone here with one of her friends and said it was really great and wanted to go again so we went for lunch. The service was terrible. The waitress only came to our table wants to take the order and then to drop the food off. I had to go find someone to pay the bill. And I could not even eat my food this time had tried chicken. I got the L10 lunch special. I tried a few pieces and it tasted so undercooked that I ended up just leaving the rest of my food. I also got violently sick within two hours of getting home. I don't like to leave bad reviews but I also think it's important after giving a place numerous tries to share my experience. And I feel that not only is the food either under or overcooked but the service leaves me not wanting to return. The two thing I will give Asia gourmet a star for is their ambience and drinks. $18-25 dishes. This was my first visit to this location. Service was excellent and really enjoyed his humor and abilities to be quality server. The restaurant itself is very visually appealing. Clean and very nice bar. However, expected it to be very loud because of the tile floors. A lot of echo! For appetizers, we had sushi rolls which were average at best. Definitely something missing on the presentation. Also scallion pancakes watch it were average at best. This certainly could be improved on. The main course, however, was extremely hot coming out, which was appreciated. Also, the plates that came out were warm, which is important when it's February in New England. This was a big thumbs up for me. Definitely will go back and revisit some of the selections in the future. They do have an extensive menu of Asian food as well as sushi/sashimi. read more

We have been greatly impressed with this out of the way Chinese restaurant located in Athol, MA. We've been there 3 or 4 times now and been very satisfied with their quality, freshness and flavor. While they are billed as an Asian fusion venue, we've basically stayed with the Chinese menu and have only been mildly disappointed when straying to the fusion options. In the restaurant biz, It's very difficult to be all things to all people all the time. For those who like a Chinese restaurant with many authentic Chinese dishes, Asia Gourmet will be a delightful stop on the "Foodie Touring Circuit". read more

This place just keeps going down hill. I used to get good food from them. The last few times my dish has almost no sauce or almost no meat. I keep asking them to please make sure there is a decent amount of sauce because the last few times there has been almost none. They say OK. Then I get the food home and it's the same thing again. Where is the damn sauce??? Really??? My wife gets steamed chicken with broccoli and specifically asks for just chicken and broccoli and we get it home and there are a bunch of carrots mixed in. I think they just do not care at all. I usually spend between $70 to $80 for the two of us for take out and I throw them a hefty tip. I'm done with this place. They suck. read more

The atmosphere was nice and the service was quick. Too quick...it was almost like he couldn't wait for us to leave...and they weren't very busy at all. The sever asked me after fifteen minutes if I wanted it boxed up to go...as I was putting a forkful of food in my mouth, obviously still eating, right?? Umm...still working on it, thanks. . That's not the only downside. We ordered a pupu platter for two, my son had shrimp pad Thai, I had beef chow mein. The chow mein was a bit bland, and the portion was super small. There wasn't much to the pad Thai either, and my son said it was 'ok' but he's had 'much better'. The appetizers on the pupu also left a lot to be desired. The boneless spareribs were super hard and rubbery, and the steak teriyaki was way overcooked as well. The egg roll was dry and tasteless. The fried shrimp was good and the chicken fingers were good, very plump and not dry at all. The chicken wings were odd...kind of reminded me of wing dings rather than Chinese chicken wings. We had stopped in while taking a leisurely drive, so they're not a place I would go on a regular basis anyway, but if I'm in this area again, I think I'll just go to the 110 Grill. read more

As a xenophile towards food, this is a great place to go. It has a large selection of different foods that cater to your needs. Food is great, but expensive. I'm not sure how this place doesn't have a higher rating. Came here for lunch on our trip out west. Not one piece of chicken was dry. It was absolutely tender and sooo good. The General was also very good. The chicken stayed crispy in the sauce. Again, not one piece of dry chicken. read more

I don't like leaving poor reviews, especially after having a good experience at a place like Asia Gourmet previously. This will be the last time I do take out. I have had a not so good experience before with take out, but I thought it might just be a hiccup. This time I will not ever do take out again. Ordered the crispy beef. It was crispy all right. Like big fat black potato chips. Had to throw it out. Way overcooked. The avacado salad was poor. Avacados were already brown. The spicy crispy wing order was smaller than previous orders. This is brand new in Athol and I must say it definitely beats out the tea garden, jade two on Gardner and the dragon in Athol. The interior is beautiful. Along the wall they had replicas of the Chinese soldiers in clay. And some gorgeous drums. It is a complete fusion of Asian. The drinks are not to strong and not to weak. We had the pu-pu platter and it was much better than the other available restaurants in the area. We also had the bento box. I had the beef teriyaki and my hubby had the shrimp tempura. The miso soup was on the salty side. The Japanese place in Leominster there soup was much lighter. The sushi was very fresh. The price is not really bad at all. For 2 people, 2 bento boxes, 2 drinks and a pu-pu platter for one cost us 62 dollars. The staff was very friendly. There was a small wait. First time I went they had just opened. The service was slow and full of kinks. We were patient and understood. Second time we waited for a table. A couple came in after us and they took them to the table we were waiting for so we walked out. Third time wasn't a charm. Ordered pickup. Very bright large room with high ceiling and music playing ,it was loud . Seated at a booth to eat in but given take out style menus that were difficult to read . Highlights were pan fried dumplings and crab Rangoon , disappointed in pu pu platter dry spare pork ribs and other fare . Vegetable Lo main was tasteless . Sushi was good and drinks were strong although a Tsing Tau beer was $8 the mixed drinks were a reasonable $9.99 . Don't think I'd go back for anything other than a few drinks and the dumplings . Arrived today for dining. Menu selection was good. Ended up ordering several sushi items. When they arrived - there was a large hair on top sushi. Not a big deal, we had asked that they remake the item. Prior to sending back, we marked the rolls , concerned they would serve us the same roles again which the hair was on. Despite saying they were remade, they were not! After addressing the issue, the waitress who was kind said that the sushi was in fact reused. While I appreciate the honesty - this definitely hindered our experience and questionable practices. read more

This restaurant did not get too much time from the opening to pu only due covet19, but has stayed open for delivery and pu. We have had the opportunity to pu twice, the food is outstanding. Now we are not much of the sushi types, but love Asian food including the hot stuff. So compared to any Asian food restaurant within a 20 mile area. This place is awesome, the dim sum, crab rangoon and General Gau are the very tops. We have tried 4 of the dishes you can only get here, the duck sauce and other sauces are ymade in house and you can tell. I'd give this place 10 stars if if I could! read more

Tried this restaurant today, had no idea it was the soft open. We were the first in the door first to order and got our food 4th after waiting an HOUR! Ordered a L21 off the Chinese lunch menu & the Masaman curry which is the equivalent to red curry everywhere else. I enjoyed my dish which was the curry. The younger Asian gentleman with his hair dyed with silver/grey tones was our server. He was not a good server at all. He wasn't friendly, not prompt, we had to ask other servers for help multiple times. Again it was the first day of business so we will give them another shot but wasn't too impressed. read more

Ordered $100 of takeout for 2 adults and 2 children. 2 sushi plates, 1 of which did not get eaten because it did not taste good. General Gau's Chicken... Ok taste, but very little portion and the tiny bit of broccoli was cold and taste fishy. Crispy spicy chicken was neither spicy nor crispy. Crunchy fried noodle was like uncooked ramen noodles with a chicken, beef and shrimp sauce, $14.95 and Aweful!!! Beef teriyaki was tiny and way over cooked dry. Crab rangoons and boneless spareribs were ok but not hot. I picked them up in the 20 minutes they said it would take to make and live 15 minutes from the restaurant. Very expensive for what you get. Did I mention over $100 for 2 adults and 2 kids for take out and no drinks??? This was the first and last order from there for me. read more

This restaurant is fairly new to Athol, but their food is amazing!! Ordered a few times during the COVID pandemic and they were safe with their pick up. Masks and social distancing were practiced. First time in. Ordered a L22. Asked for 2 sides instead of one. And she told me "NO" so I had to order an appetizer for the side I wanted. Portion was very small. Ordered a sprite that they didn't have. So ordered a ginger ale that sat at the end of my table empty the entire time. Rice was kind of cold. Worst part no left overs! I miss SAWA , I have been to Asia Gormet three times and have never gotten warm food, I have had rude wait staff and there is a language barrier which dosent bother me except twice I didn't Get what I ordered .For two years I have been driving past all the local Chinese places because they are sub par and going to SAWA in Gardner and it is worth the trip.The only good thing about this place is the drinks are cold ,just like the food.
