    a variety of sushi

I signed up for yelp because of this restaurant. Some of the best sushi I've had in a long time. And the dumpling were melt in your mouth amazing.

Amazing, amazing fried banana. That pile of dusty, crushed, peanuts and seasonings is to die for. I could have eaten a plat of that.

Absolutely, freaking, amazing sushi, and if, like me, you like your seafood cooked, there are clearly market menu choices. You will not notice this place and likely not be looking for a sushi restaurant with this caliber of food and presentation on sleepy Main street in Ashburnham, MA, but you must GO FIND IT. The restaurant is small, but perfectly laid out with a sleek seating bar with the most comfortable chairs I have ever sat on and tables of various sizes placed around the long, narrow dining floor. My SO - a huge sushi fan - heard of this place from a co-worker, and we planned a hike in the area around the restaurant. He ordered the sushi chef's 12-piece option and, as I don't eat sushi, ordered a vegetable noodle bowl. Take a look at photo I'm adding here of this noodle bowl. Flavors were unbelievable. We also had steamed dumplings which were the best I have had and I am a huge dumpling seeker. The dough on the dumplings was thin and light. We also had a tempura plate that used large, fresh veggies and shrimp with the lightest tempura layer I have ever seen. Everything was delightful, authentic and soul-warming, right down to the tableware and beverage options (beer, wine, Asian beverages, popular sodas, etc.). Dessert for us was fried banana. I can't do it justice with words. There was a side of crumbled peanuts, seasoning and we think a seed of some type - sort of like a dusting of flavors - on the desert plate to sprinkle on banana. I could have eaten a dish of that dusting stuff alone. Place is clean, clean, clean, cozy, great waiter and sushi chef, and, even the little bathroom is beautiful - what you would expect in some New York yoga studio. Make the trip people. Get out there!

Ramen noodles have been replaced with spaghetti and there is no kimchi in my spicy kimchi and seafood noodles.

Pretty decent sushi for Ashburnham. Very small, friendly staff, busy on weekends... aunt and I decided to try it out. Wasn't disappointed.

Sitting at the bar looking over the menu, the atmosphere had that comfortable local feel that makes you want to stay awhile. I ordered a margarita while waiting for my food, and the staff was incredibly friendly and social, they made me feel like a regular from the moment I walked in. My order came out quickly and was packaged carefully, which made it perfect for traveling. I chose the steak tips and shrimp cocktail special with two sides, and everything was excellent. The steak tips were tender and cooked perfectly, and even in a to-go container the shrimp cocktail was beautifully presented and tasted very fresh. Overall, it was a fantastic experience with great food and genuinely welcoming service.

The food is fantastic! Their meatball appetizer alone was better than the entire meal we ate in my last review. The Reuben sandwich was perfect, and the mac and cheese with brisket was so good, I ate it until I almost died (happy). It had more of an American cheese flavor, with rotini. Brisket was smokey, sauced, and chopped making it easy to eat. Every single thing we ordered the past few times was delicious and flavorful. Great, now I have no idea what to order. I want one of everything! Prices may be a bit steep for some, but 100% worth it. We are always too full for the ice cream. Many flavors. Plenty of parking. Service staff are excellent. Fast and friendly. I hope they never change.

I never thought I'd have to write a review like this, but I feel responsible to share what happened so others can stay safe and aware. Recently, I ordered 10 lobsters -- six that I ate there, and four extra that I bought from the market to take home. While eating, I noticed immediately that the lobster tasted off. It was watery, the texture felt wrong, and the flavor wasn't what it usually is. I even mentioned that to them. Not long after, I became extremely sick -- sick enough to end up in the ER. I didn't go in person, but I called the restaurant to let them know what happened. Not to argue, not to demand anything... just to inform them. As someone who has supported this business consistently, I expected at least a little concern. Instead, I was put on hold, picked up, and told they didn't have time for me. And even worse -- I could hear someone in the background say: "Oh, it's that girl... yeah, don't talk to her. Ignore her."... I ONLY CALLED X2 (CALLED BACK BECAUSE THEY TOLD ME TO FIND THE DATE THEN CALL BACK).. I had just spoken to the guy 15 minutes prior to call back and get told he was never there.... I never got to speak to him again) ... DEREK IS HIS NAME. Honestly hearing that broke my heart. After years of loyalty, thousands spent, and supporting them consistently, that's how they spoke about me. No care, no respect, no acknowledgment that I had gotten seriously sick AND ALMOST DIED!!!! I'm sharing this because customer safety matters, and so does how customers are treated when something goes wrong. I hope this encourages the business to take food safety and customer care much more seriously, because nobody should have to go through what I did NOBODY EVER! SHOULD HAVE TO ALMOST LOSE THEIR LIFE OVER FOOD! AND HAVE THE RESTAURANT YOU'VE SUPPORTED HANG UP ON YOU AND NOT CARE FOR YOUR LIFE...

The sign says Fish Market & Chowder Company, but what you walk into is 95% restaurant, 5% "technicality fish market," and that last 5% is doing the kind of work that would make a union rep cry. Let's be clear: The Angler is no longer selling fresh seafood. Not in any meaningful, market‑based, "take this home and cook it" way. What they are selling is the idea of a fish market -- the ghost of one -- while running a packed dining room full of people slurping oysters like it's a Cape Cod tourist trap in July. And speaking of tourist traps: They've got a tour bus parked outside. A tour bus. For a "local fish market." That's like seeing a stretch limo outside a Dollar Tree -- you immediately know something is off. As a chef, my time is valuable. As a food reviewer with an actual show, my time is documented. And nothing ticks me off faster than false advertising dressed up as nostalgia. If you've abandoned the fresh fish counter because the restaurant side makes more money? Fine. But update your signage. Update your branding. Stop wasting people's gas and goodwill. I walked in looking for fresh haddock. What I got was wall‑to‑wall oyster eaters and not a single square foot dedicated to what the sign promised. You can get oysters anywhere. You cannot get a proper local fish counter everywhere -- and certainly not in a space this cramped. If ownership wants to reach out and explain the pivot, I'm open to it. I'll even give them a redemption arc on one of my platforms. But right now? This new direction is the wrong fit for the location, the footprint, and the legacy they're trading on. Call me when you're ready to rebuild. I'll help. But today? Today was a misstep -- and an avoidable one.

We came here to try out their Monday Blues, and happened on their Monday Buck-a-Shuck oysters! We found a long room with over 70 seats set up at tables for four that looked combine-able, about 20 seats at the bar and at 2-seat hightops, both rooms with a wall of windows. The band set up in the bar window, but sit where you like, we found that we could hear the band everywhere! There's also a small enclosed outdoor patio with about 30 more seats at umbrellaed tables. The Jim Atkinson band is a foursome of Boston-area musicians that has been cranking out great blues, rock, & roots since 2017. We loved them, especially enjoying the creative keyboard and a real live sax! Their music selection was amazing, more their favorite solid blues than old-standbys, so we didn't recognize every song. But that's real music :-) The $1 New England oysters were big and juicy! They started at 4pm before we got there, and they still had plenty for us after 7pm! They say the variety changes with availability. These were not overly salty. This was dinner for us, and we started with their hot-skillet "Mexican Corn Dip" with zingy pico de gallo salsa and fresh crisp corn tortilla chips. We got a "warm energy" bowl of quinoa, fresh tart cranberries, baby spinach, roasted sweet potato, and goat cheese, flavored with some scallions and garlic-butter. Huge, delicious, and very satisfying! The Fish 'n Chips was a full-foot-long full of their own Moon-Hill-beer beer-battered haddock, piping-hot fries, fresh crunchy coleslaw, with tartar sauce. Yep, Huge, delicious, and satisfying! We tried their parmesan-garlic wings, but that wasn't our favorite. They were ok, but not crispy which we expected. Came with crunchy celery and creamy bleu cheese. Of course we leaned on their in-house Moon Hill brewery for several dry IPAs, their luscious Candy Mountain blueberry sour, (which could have been colder), and a very tasty non-alcohol Blueberry (Not)-tini, a bubbly beverage crafted with "Reàl Blueberry Purée", fresh lemon juice and lemonade. This is a nice community bar, brewery, restaurant, and patio. We are already looking forward to their big Octoberfest!
