I LOVE curry! Yes, it's true. I do, I do I doooooo. I would happily dine on curry every day if I could so take me out for a curry and I am very happy.
I've been to many Ashoka restaurants in the (many) years I have lived in Glasgow; this particular Ashoka in Bearsden I've been to about 5 times now, I first came here about 15/16 years ago and I've always had a really lovely meal. With Ashoka being one of the largest 'chains' of Indian restaurant in Glasgow you have probably been to at least one of their restaurants in your life and the one good thing with them being part of a long-running chain you kinda know what you're going to get when you eat here.
We usually dine here midweek in the evening and still book a table as this place can get very busy some days, I think the fact they have really good midweek deals here (usually 30% off your food bill) and that the quality is always pretty consistent and the restaurant itself is pretty nice helps. The last time I came here my friend & I ordered via the 5pm website and this meant we both got 2 courses for £9.95, which is really good. We could order from the a la carte menu & there was only a few options we weren't allowed.
For drink I always order the draught beer, I think it's Kingfisher here but sometimes it can be Cobra or Lal Toofan ~ all equally nice beers to go with your food. For starter I had the Chicken Pakora & what can I say? Chicken pakora here is always tasty. You get a healthy portion too. I've tried the Haggis & Mushroom Pakoras before also and again they're really good too. For my main this time I had the Bombay Bakra which is lamb Karahi style with onions, ginger, green peppers, tomatoes, green chillies, black cumin and spinach, served with a boiled rice and we got a Peshwari Nan to share (because they are soooo good). The curry was really good, not the best I've had but still really good. Every time I come here now I do try to pick a different curry as I always used to order the same one (Chicken Tikka) without fail, it was always really good but I got to a stage where I wanted to 'branch out' a bit & I'm glad I did as I have discovered some lovely new curries along the way.
Staff in here are always really friendly & helpful and usually recognise myself & my friend even though we only manage to dine here about twice a year! Wow. That's customer service/brilliant memories for you! It's not far from the train station - about a 5/10min walk.
Also Ashoka do brilliant take away meal deals. We used to order the Feast Deal for Two (I think it's £21.99 now but used to always be £19.99) and includes a stupid amount of food! This deal would easily feed 3 if not 4 people but because it's just us 2 and our cat (he's not such a big curry fan) we would stuff ourselves silly with all the food and then sit in a curry coma for the rest of the evening ~ great stuff! Haha! Again, consistently good too.
I'll be back here again, it might not be for another few months but I know I will be back. read more
