Normally when there is a project the contractors pick up the lumber so this is only the 2nd time I have been Ashby lumber. Both experiences were excellent. Especially today, on this last day of 2025 I decided to purchase some lumber to make a bed frame for myself and my dog. Of course I got the size wrong; the sales person Diego (Martinez) was very kind, patient and helpful. Hopefully they don't have many customers as clueless as I am. The two gentlemen who worked at the lumber yard were also very kind, professional and knowledgeable. Absolutely terrible experience at the door store. The salesperson we worked with made an error telling us the door stiles were solid wood and we could drill into them. That led to us drilling into foam on our brand new door. Due to the saleperson's error, Ashby Lumber replaced the door for free. This time we decided to let them drill the holes for us so there would be no possibility for confusion. We could not have been more clear of the problem and the need for the lock bores to be drilled into the solid wood section of the door's "lock-block". Despite our clear communication, we had to refuse delivery of the second door as upon arrival we saw that the bore holes were again drilled into the foam-core part of the door. I then escalated and started communicating just with the manager. The manager was so condescending. He told me "I can tell we are not going to be able to please you", implying that our most basic requirement that the bores not be drilled into foam was an excessive requirement! I quote that he said to me, "well, I am not a door expert". I was confused about why he was telling me he was not a door expert when he was the manager of the door department. Well, note to this door department manager, taking our business to Truitt and White got the job done correctly on the first try. No comparison. Go to Truitt and White! read more

Wish 10 stars was an option. The glass on my 15 year old French door was broken by gardener. Over the next 6 months, I got multiple quotes from people. Just about everyone said the door was too old. Marvin doesn't make replacement anymore. Need a complete new set of doors, with new frame, stucco work, etc. with outrageous quotes. (they knew insurance was covering this) I was about to give up, decided to make one last estimate request. Brandon at Ashby Lumber picked up the phone. Smooth sailing from that point. His contact at Marvin was able to manufacture the replacement panel. I did not need to do framing, stucco work. His quote was about 1/4 - 1/3 of everyone else! I also ordered hinges that didn't quite fit. Brandon went above and beyond, and accepted the return and got me a refund. Wonderful, professional, and honest. The employee assisting me was argumentative and dismissive, rolled her eyes, and stated that it was my job to know what to do. This review is all about Victor and their supplies store onsite and resolving a unique 1951 steel window encasement issue. Re the supplies store, they have everything you need and are even better than Home Depot as they have hard to find things and solutions. It's pricey but if you can't find online or anywhere else and need something urgently you'll probably find it here. Victor works for AL and knows everything about everything and can connect you with whomever you need to solve your issue. The customer service level at AL is like Nordstroms! I went here to solve a 1950s window encasement issue and these guys knew where to go, who to call, what part to order etc! In the end problem solved thanks to Victor. Ashby didn't have the part at the time but if you know what you need they can order it easy. And one window took one hour to fix because the flathead screws were stripped and broke due to a previous paint job seeping paint between the cracks and sealing the screws in. So the guy had to use serious manual labor strength plus hammers to loosen the screws then unscrew two safely and the other two broke so he had to use a fancy adjustable needle nose type wrench that locked in tight and unscrew the screws little by little then the third screw came out and the fourth wouldn't. We used rust remover, WD40 etc. The last straw was to drill a hole Thru the screw and move the old encasement to try to loosen it and finally we were able to get it out thanks to a pinhole sized drill bit. The other two windows were easy and took 10 mins. Thankful this could be resolved as I wasn't ready to put new windows in just yet! read more

I love roaming a good old fashion hardware store. Its almost like a treasure hunt and its inevitable that I find something that I did not even know I needed (to be fair I usually do not really need it). Ashby Lumber is just such a store. This is a complete hardware store with not only the usual suspects for such outlets but also boasts a pretty high end kitchen and bath showroom. They also have a huge selection of wood including an outdoor yard. The real gem here (and with other places like it) is the staff. Friendly and knowledgeable, they always seem to know what you are talking about when you describe you know the doohickey that hangs off the round knob... They ALWAYS know what you need. Finally finished my outdoor tub project thanks to Ashby Lumber! Yeee! I was able to order the threaded hose adapters for my hot + cold lines to connect with the tub faucet. The fitment was perfect and with the use of plumbers tape, zero leaks. It was the last part I needed to complete the project. Now for the tub itself, the cast iron heats up fast and does a wonderful job at retaining the water temp. I turned up the temperature setting on my hot water heater, so the water is scalding hot. I let it cool for 5 minutes and mix in a little cold water to bring it down to a comfortable temperature before using it. I'm in love with it! There's virtually zero maintenance compared to a hot tub, with no harsh chemicals and fresh water every time. I built a small french drain for the water drainage and also water my garden with it as well. read more

I had the weirdest experience here two Sundays ago. Went in and asked if they had a replacement seal for a toilet flush valve. Might be the most basic thing in all of home plumbing, and the three people at the counter (a man and two women) acted like I had just walked into a GameStop asking for plumbing supplies. The guy I talked to clearly had no idea what they carry in the store, but he did at least pretend to look on his computer for the seal. He gave me a blank look and went silent for a minute, so I asked him if he was looking it up. He sounded annoyed that I was still standing there expecting him to know something, and replied, "yeah, but like 50 things are showing up." Didn't offer to walk to the isle with me and look for the part. Just pointed in the direction and said if he had anything it would be there. The two women remained silent the entire time. Not sure why they were there. I would've been much better off just asking random customers if they knew where the part was. I've been going to Ashby Lumber since the 1980s with my dad, and I bought a nice Milwaukee impact hammer from them last year, so it's sad to see how far they've fallen off. Next time, I'll just go to Home Depot (which did have the seal btw), where I don't expect employees to know anything, but I do know they have pretty much everything in stock. Bummer. Near double the price for plywood sheets than Macbeath! Also I needed help with getting a new air compressor hose and there's no one there who knew anything about them. To be fair the clerk said there's one who guy who might know but he wasn't there. I just went over to OSH and immediately got helped by a young man who actually uses air compressors and told me exactly what I needed. Also at literally half the cost of Ashby.
