The building is about 104 years old, so think of thin walls and creaky floors. I didn't mind them. The bed was comfortable and the decor is quaint. Breakfast was good. I had the French toast and my boyfriend had the omelet. It came with fruit salad, drinks and cheese. Pierre, the owner, is an amicable person who recommended a lot of places to visit and is the reason my boyfriend came back from his previous experience here and brought me along this time. Overall, it was an enjoyable place and I had good experience here.

The best part about your stay is the breakfast he will make you. You have many options: eggs, toast, crepes, croissants, cheese (oh, the cheese!), jams, cereal. Whatever you may want - he will prepare it for you. Also, he buys everything from local farmers and markets to fully support the local economy. My fiance and I have stayed in a few B&B's and while the turn of the century house is well kept, the rooms nice, and the breakfast good, nothing really stands out as being exceptional, especially seeing as it was the most expensive place we've stayed. The owner was a touch overbearing compared with other B&Bs we have frequented. Her hovering made the stay somewhat awkward for us and we felt sorry for the nice people from Germany who were also staying there, too polite to extricate themselves from the optionally mandatory 8:30 Sunday breakfast like we did.

The bedding was soft but I wasn't able to get any quality sleep. When I return to my room on second day, my duvet was replaced but I could see some obvious stains to it. Thank God I don't sleep on that side of the bed. Moreover, the TV is off-centered from the bed so only one side of the bed can see it. The sightline is blocked by a pillar on other half of the bed. There are less than 100 channels on the TV. The sports channel do not have high definition. I have to watch it on SD even though the TV screen is huge. Onto the bathroom. The faucet for handwashing was too close to the edge of the sink. The overhead shower was partially blocked and could only run for about 5-8 seconds before the pressure would shut the water off. The soap and shampoo bottles were very difficult to squeeze. I would probably book another hotel next time. One thing that is actually dangerous: the fire escape map in my room doesn't indicate which room I'm in on the map. No doubt that this is illegal. The things that are good about this hotel are knowledgeable staff and convenient location with lots of food and shopping options.

They share amenities with adjacent hotel unfortunately which means busy exercise facilities. One could book the pool ahead though it was still shared with others. This visit was week long so luckily I was able to upgrade to a suite which is good for a longer stay. However there was no house keeping and one couldn't even schedule it! What gives? I know we are in trying times but other hotel chain I stayed at in the same city could at least schedule it provided one was away for the designated time period. I was able to order towels, espresso pods etc. though the front desk but still an unmade room for a week! The only was to get a clean room was by changing the room which isn't viable. I tried the breakfast buffet during my stay and wasn't impressed at all. With all the delivery apps offering all sort of fresh options. I don't see a reason why one wouldn't use them to order breakfast in.

My boyfriend and I drove to Ottawa from Jersey, driving through Pennsylvania and New York State. After seven hours on the road, we were beat. Luckily, we found a parking spot in the hotel's available underground parking garage and went through check-in at the front desk fairly quickly. When we got to our room, we dropped our bags and rested. The beds were comfy and the room was nicely decorated. The bathroom had a shower and there were Aveda toiletry products on the sink counter (loved them). We didn't get one of the rooms facing the lobby, so our window looked out to the street. Overall, I liked our room. Plus, there is free Wi-Fi. There is a restaurant downstairs. Didn't try the food, but we had a couple of beers there after a long day of sightseeing. The gym in the hotel was good - it has variety of machines and free weights. The hotel also has a pool. Also, there is a little business center where you can use a computer and printer; I pulled up our MapQuest directions there which was very helpful. Next time I come to Ottawa, I'll most likely book here. Highly recommended!

After making my change, I looked at past bookings and found ByWard Blue Inn. I was last in Ottawa in November 2015. I got a pretty good deal staying here for a week at just over $500 with tax. I recall looking at the definition of the hotel's kitchenette before I drove to Ottawa, which was different from my own. It didn't have a stove. As a result, I brought my electric food pot on my trip, which allows you to heat up soup and such. It does have a fridge, microwave, sink, and coffee maker in each room. I drove from Markham to Ottawa. It wasn't difficult finding this hotel. The big blue sign was easy to spot. I parked outside for a brief moment, hauled my rolling computer bag and small suitcase up a flight of carpeted stairs, and checked in. My check-in took some time. Someone was ahead of me. Luckily, I wasn't rushed. The woman checking me in was friendly and thorough with the instructions. I was handed my room key and took the elevator to get to my room. The room was minimalistic. I loved it. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had everything that I needed and worked well. The wifi was excellent. I enjoy fixing myself breakfast and snacks when I have a decent room. I had bought mushroom perogies one day and made them for dinner using my electric pot. I was happy. I parked in the city-run parking lot next door. Prices were cheap to me. Then again, I am used to inflated downtown Toronto parking rates. Hotel staff got to know me. One was impressed that I brought food and made meals. Hey, when I am on the road, I like to feel like it's my home away from home. The hotel also provided a complimentary bottle of water. It was a nice touch. Location-wise, this hotel is in ByWard Market, which I never fully got to know until I stayed smack in the middle of everything. I walked everywhere. It's pretty close to everything imaginable, which is what a tourist like me welcomes! Hotwire is tempting me to stay here again. When I return to Ottawa, I probably will. (195)

There are three guest suites each meant for two adults, so at any given time there are at max 6 adult guests. Combined with being out in the country, this means that it is nice and QUIET! A rare and refreshing quality. There are many things to praise but I cannot continue without mentioning that Susie and Mark, the owners, are the best asset of this business. They are both incredibly welcoming, hospitable, and attentive, while also being conscious of giving you space as a guest to do your thing. Upon checking in, Susie sat down with us to discuss breakfast. She is careful to note any allergies or aversions, and to review the menu in advance! We were able to schedule our breakfast for any time between 7-9am. Breakfast itself was generous and more importantly, delicious! We had yogurt with fruit and homemade granola, quiche, potatoes, a stuffed tomato, juice, and all the coffee we could drink. The last thing I want to focus on is that this house is remarkably CLEAN. Susie and Mark have two friendly, quiet dogs and two cats, but unless you are looking right at them you'd never know it. I am actually allergic to dogs and cats, and had zero reaction during my two night stay. In her past Susie worked in a healthcare field and it shows...this is one of the cleanest houses I've ever been in. But it did not feel sterile and cold, quite the opposite. I happened to be visiting for a wedding in Kanata but I will happily stay at Moonstone Manor anytime I need to be in the Ottawa area. It's a quick 20 minute drive downtown to the ByWard Market/Parliament/National Gallery/etc. I can't see myself ever getting a hotel in the city knowing that this is an option. All that to say, if you are thinking of staying here, do it!

The concierge wasn't in at the time of our arrival and check-in was seamless. Soho Champagne communicated with me prior to check-in to ensure all my questions were answered. Plus, this place is conveniently located near Little Italy and Chinatown. I wished that we were able to stay longer. There are 3 reasons that I knocked off a star. Before I get into these, I'll mention that I was given a number to call if I had any problems with the room, but I didn't think any of the problems were worth calling about. First, the remote to open the garage didn't work from inside the car (maybe low/no battery?) and I had to get out of the car each time to get the garage door to open. Second, upon check-in I took a shower and there were 2 long and noticeable hairs stuck to the wall of the shower. Finally, I could not for the life of me get the TV in the bedroom to work. For the price of the room, I'd expect a bit more attention to detail in these areas. All in all, we had an amazing time and would definitely stay at Soho Champagne again.
