I really appreciated the full sized fridge. If you decide to eat it, it comes with a lovely kitchenette with a sink, microwave and large fridge. The beds were super comfortable. Really great location. Our only issue was that the underground parking lot, which was full. We stayed in an above lot from a private parkade, and they said that they would compensate, but they didn't for the full days that we were there...because they claimed there was parking in their underground area, but we couldn't find it. It wasn't like we checked every hour, we were out exploring but my husband checked when we first got up, before we left to go explore for the day, right before supper and in the evening. I dislike the pettiness that happened, when really, it shouldn't have had a big deal to compensate for the couple of days. Staff was friendly. Complementary breakfast was good. I would stay here again

We were lucky to get an upgrade which was unexpected but very much appreciated. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The only catches would be the bathtub that was slightly stained and the soundproofing. If you're unlucky that we were, you'll hear everything that's happening next door. But the price is more than decent for what you get.

Parliament, museums, and the canal are an easy walk away, and the main street that the inn sits off of (Elgin Street) is full of restaurants and shops so you don't have to go far for a bite to eat (we liked the Elgin Street Diner the best). The inn's breakfast is nice with lots of choices, (including Nutella!), and I liked that the front door is kept locked at all times. There are some drawbacks, like having to share a bathroom and sleeping on a mattress that was a little uncomfortable. I ended up bringing my own pillow since we drove quite a ways to get there, and I think my husband regretted not doing the same. The floors do squeak quite a bit, but I didn't mind this since I like staying in old houses with lots of character. And I was so tired from walking around all day that I conked out in about two minutes after getting back to the room. Overall, a great place to stay if you'll be out exploring all day and want an affordable and nearby place to crash at night.

Any decision to stay at the Rideau Inn should be based solely on the price and location. At a…read moreweekend rate of $70/night and an easy walk from Parliament Hill, the inn is an easy and affordable launch pad to view the city. The inn would be better characterized as a hostel. The downsides are the rooms are very close together. If you stay on the first or second levels, you will hear your neighbors creaking on the wooden floors overhead. The bed we stayed in was lumpy and in need of replacement. The sheets also had a warped feeling from being excessively washed (probably for several years). Part of our room was dusty/dirty, one of our two lights was not functioning properly and our clock was not set. There is a glass window above many room doors, which cause the bedrooms to be flooded with hallway light. Our suite was small, without sufficient space to store our belongings. Several rooms do not contain their own bathrooms. No toiletries will be provided. An attendant is not on-site for most of the day and the evening hours. The self-serve continental breakfast consists of cereal, fruit and croissants. If you are looking for a bargain in a good location, the Rideau Inn is it. However, if you are in search of a romantic bed and breakfast getaway, or a place for comfort and relaxation, you should look for other accommodation.

Pooh and I stayed here during our third leg of our vacation…read more We had a beautiful room like a one bedroom apartment. Hardwood floors, separate bedroom, big dining room and living room. The kitchen was fully equipped and we had a washer/dryer. The sofa pulled out to a double bed. We also had a great view of downtown Ottawa from the windows and balcony What we didn't like was the crappy internet connection. We have stayed at many hotels and we never had to pay for decent internet access. Basic internet at other hotels was fine. If we wanted higher speeds we'd have to pay either 10$ or 20$ per day! Here the basic service was crap. We couldn't even watch anything on CityTV, Tubi or Crave. We ended up having to use our cell phones as hotspots - that is unacceptable. Also the body wash, shampoo and conditioner provided by the hotel was not refilled and the floor of the shower was quite slippery when it's wet. I had to hold the hand rail at times. One coffee pod was not even enough to provide two cups of coffee. We ended up buying instant coffee Around 4 pm every day a door was opening and slamming shut constantly around our room. It was quite annoying. They should install something to have the doors shut slowly. Our door slammed shut too. This was our first time staying in downtown Ottawa and we loved it but next time a different hotel.

But when…read moreI tried to add it to the front of the reservation at the hotel where I was staying the rest of my time in Ottawa, I discovered the rate for my extra night was significantly higher. Looking around within the brand, I found that the Hilton Garden Inn Ottawa Downtown had a rate so much better that even paying for parking, it was less expensive, even a better rate than the Homewood Suites sharing this space. Plus, it had the convenience of being close to the government buildings, Byward Market, and downtown, and only 2 blocks from the light rail. Parking was underground and convenient, but such a tight squeeze. Vehicle clearance is only 5' 9", and the parking spaces don't allow a lot of space for opening doors fully. My room had a great view of the Ottawa River and Gatineau. The room was fairly quiet and dark. Temperature control was good, with temperature settings by the half-degree Celsius. But the air vent blows directly over the bed. Luckily the thermostat had high and low settings for the fan, and with low it was fine. But every time you changed the temperature, the fan was reset to high. I appreciated the fact that I could shop around for best rates at various times during my stay in Ottawa. I was less appreciative of the fact that the rates changed so much during the course of any week and weekend.

The buffet during our stay offered cereal, yogurt, pastries /breads, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, sausages, beans and roasted potatoes which were amazingly delicious! There was coffee, tea, water, orange and apple juice as well. The room we got was a 1 king bed suite which ended up being a large and spacious corner room! With a fully equipped kitchenette, large dining room table, separated bedroom with closed doors and a living room with a L shaped couch and tv. When I checked in, the very young woman with whom I did my check-in was about as un-friendly as I have ever experienced. I had to pronounce and spell my 4-letter last name multiple times. I had to show her my ID twice. And then, I got: "Your ID says 'William,' and the reservation is for Bill." She didn't not seem to understand or accept that Bill is a nickname for William. In the over 20 years and over 200 stays I've had at Hilton's, this has never been an issue. I finally had to pull out my phone, pull up the app, and read the confirmation number to her. Instead of "Thank you," she ATTEMPTED to lecture me that I should change my profile name to William. Again, 200+ stays, 20+ years, same Honors profile. I would have gotten more welcoming treatment from Wednesday Addams. Every other person at the hotel with whom I interacted was friendly and all smiles. Interestingly, I did not see this young woman working at the desk for the rest of my stay. I haven't gotten an email with an opinion survey, but I did take the business card of the manager for some comments. My room and bed were comfortable, but not really noise-proof. I could hear most traffic on the road outside, and noise from neighboring rooms. Breakfast here is BUSY. That is perhaps because there are no other places to eat in the immediate vicinity. The breakfast area was not big enough to accommodate everyone, so every morning the diners spill out to the tables in the lobby. To their credit, the staff were constantly refilling supplies. They even had someone manning the waffle station, which definitely sped things up and undoubtedly reduced the amount of mess that might have been produced there otherwise. Parking is underground and complimentary, using your room key for access. The ramp down is steep. The intersection in front of the hotel is a popular site for panhandlers. When traffic stops, they approach every car unabashedly asking for money. This is not a hotel problem, just something for your awareness if you are traveling west from the hotel. The hotel does have conveniences. This includes the parking and breakfast. If you are willing to walk about 10 minutes, you can also access the Red Line easily.

The Good: High tech Rooms, there were so many switches it kind of got confusing going around figuring out which is for what light. Plenty of mood lighting and perfect lighting for when getting ready. The location was great, close enough to most downtown activities yet a little tucked away for a more peaceful environment. I do want to make a note this hotel is located right next to the shelter. To be honest that wasn't an issue for us. They kept themselves, there's always someone in the lobby so no unauthorized individuals can enter as elevator requires key. Staff was friendly from the moment we checked in, they held doors & greeted us each time. The room itself is modern, not much privacy though when it comes to shower, which is slightly tinted so when showering, anyone sitting in the room has full visuals. The bathroom floor is heated which was a nice touch. Found the bedding and pillows comfortable. The room is equipped with coffee pods & machine, creamer & milk in the fridge. Ample amount of towels and toiletries. The Ok: Though the room was cleaned, unfortunately our bathroom was not.
