Renovations are currently going on, but it didn't affect our stay at all and it's great to see the hotel being updated. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. ... Construction during our stay was very loud, but kept between 0730 and 1700. Location is super convenient if you are going to the government buildings. Check out the tunnel system on the lower level. Direct access to a food court open for lunch hours. Room was nicely appointed and elevators worked fast and well. Price was discounted due to the construction, which was the main reason I selected. Booked this hotel for it's location, few minute walk to the Parliament Hill, walking distance to the ByWard Market and CF Rideau Centre. It wasn't too cold for the nice walk to the places to check them out. The hotel was nice, has underground parking and if you do park here, make sure you park in the green zone (enter from the Kent St by the Marriott sign). The green zone has elevators that takes you up to the lobby of the hotel. I ended up in the yellow zone, and the elevator took me outside to the next building lol Check-in was simple, the room was spacious and nice. Lot of sun coming into the room, but if you want a view, you'll see a lot of towers :) The only draw back to the room was the bathroom - it was very narrow and small. Staff working the front desk were super nice, friendly and welcoming. They explained how the in/out parking worked, where the elevator to the parking garage was etc. If you go to the buffet, be mindful... I had a complimentary breakfast, the waiter asked if I had the voucher, gave it to him and later be brought me a check and told me to take my time. I thought all I had to do was sign it, but NO it was actual bill for the breakfast buffet!! I asked the waiter if the buffet wasn't complimentary and the waiter asked if I had the voucher and I told the waiter, yeah, I already gave it to you, then said, oh, forget the bill and took it away, never apologized. Written by a lifetime gold member, so I know Marriott hotels very well. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE. They incorrectly charged my credit card for reservations cancelled before the deadline. When queried, they provided two different explanations. It took hours of back and forth emails to get them to admit their error and refund the money, and still no clear explanation. The manager, Colin, ignored me for 6+ weeks. It appears their employees can arbitrarily charge rooms with no justification. This place is ripe for FRAUD as they don't have appropriate accounting controls. I wonder what else is wrong with their systems...ask yourself, is it worth risking the stay? If something goes wrong, do you have faith they'll rectify? For Bonvoy Elite members: there's a much nicer Delta across the street. read more

Marriott - this hotel is screaming for your help! Our room air conditioner stopped working every night. The concierge lounge is closed even though I called and confirmed that they had one. Guy at the front desk thought it was hilarious to tell me there was laundry detergent available next to the washer and dryer on the 4th floor - went to the 4th floor - no dispenser - came back down and the guy said they they normally have it in their pantry store but they were out because they ordered the wrong kind? - I asked if they could get me some for one load from their laundry room. He refused and literally laughed the entire time. Was he high? Then the manager threatened to kick us out of the hotel because I asked him to resolve the issue. Another staff member said call corporate if you don't like it. Food and bar service staff were great. But this hotel is not a safe place to stay if you are at risk of getting kicked out. read more

I have stayed at this property once before pre-covid. I was happy to visit Ottawa and stay at this hotel again. The lobby is open and spacious. Ample seating areas. There is a Starbucks and a fairly nice restaurant on property. The front desk staff are great. House cleaning services are offered on a daily basis at this hotel. Valet parking is still suspended at this location. This is important to know if you have limited mobility or wheelchair based. The views of the river, Parliament, historical landmarks, and ByWard area are great from the upper floors. The Bonvoy lounge is pretty nice. Breakfast is hot and fresh. I would definitely recommend this hotel and location if visiting the area. read more

Derick was so helpful! My room had only decaf in it, so I called down for regular coffee. Derick came with a bag full of coffee, creamers, sugars, cups. He brought me slippers, and some toothpaste. A solid three, three and a half star hotel. It's surprisingly big and awkwardly laid out. They have a center bay of five elevators and the rooms are a circle around it. The decor is so unmemorable you can't tell one hall from another. The bar downstairs is rather lackluster. The menu is eclectic for what it is and not necessarily in a good way. I needed to use the laundry facility which is awkwardly adjoining the kids area. As such, it closes at 10. That means you have to waste precious tome during the day to do a load of laundry. read more

A pretty decent hotel near the Sparks Street Mall in downtown Ottawa. This was my first hotel stay since the beginning of the pandemic, and we came to visit friends. The hotel rooms need updating, but they were very comfortable and clean. The lobby was modern, with a good bar/restaurant. There's a Starbucks for additional eats just outside the lobby. The fitness centre is probably one of the best amongst Ottawa hotels - a large gym area and a pool made the stay more enjoyable. Negative comments? The hotel room doors are super loud! This can be somewhat disruptive if you have neighbours coming in/out at night. Can't these be replaced? read more

Stayed here for a few nights and the experience left much to be desired. Arrived pretty late and was greeted promptly. For a 4 diamond property, I've had much better service. Upon entering my Executive Corner Larger Room, I noticed that there was no in-room safe, no towel next to the bathtub for the ground, and a toilet that kept on leaking water... Last but not least, the WiFi wasn't working property-wide... Turned off the toilet for the evening and requested a work order to be repaired in the morning. The next day, I noticed that the toilet had been attempted to be repaired but the toilet was still leaking, the trash wasn't taken out and there was also a complimentary piece of hair on the bed?!? When I drove to Ottawa from Toronto I was exhausted, mostly due to hotel issues the night before in Toronto (by a different hotel company). Pulling right up to the hotel and their drive - I was greeted nicely by the valet and he helped me get my friend and I's luggage out and gave us a ticket to keep. We traveled into the lobby which was bright and nicely decorated. When I went up to the front desk the man behind the desk gave me the choice of what room view I wanted the River or the Parliament building. I asked what he would choose and he told me the river, therefore I went with the river view. When my best friend and I got to our room - we were so excited it was a corner room as well as having a balcony with a great view. We could overlook the river which was awesome during sunset and great to look at in the morning. Keep in mind a lot of the nightlife in Ottawa takes place in Bayward Market and this hotel is located in the Financial District. The service when we were checking out was as smooth as it was checking in which made me happy. By the time we got outside, my car was already waiting for us to go and all I did was tip the valet and we were off. This is how a hotel should work, it should be easy to check in and out with no difficulties. read more

I loveeee the Marriott. We are platinum elite. That being said, this was a mediocre location in terms of being updated and fresh compared to many of the Marriotts I've stayed at. The staff was EXCELLENT. The bell hops, the front desk, the waitstaff. 5 stars for prompt, professional, exceptional service. Wow!! They were truly amazing and they gave me an upgrade to a suite which was very comfortable. I would recommend and I hope that they make some updates to the Marriott standard we are used to. read more

I stayed at this location for a couple nights and I thought my stay was satisfactory. I guess my expectations were a bit high but I'll list what I liked/disliked below. Good: - Service was really good. Everyone was very friendly and happy to help. - Breakfast was delicious! I got a package that included buffet breakfast and I really couldn't get enough. The bacon was crispy, the eggs were a touch gooey (which I love), and the french toast had cinnamon making it taste almost like a cinnamon bun. - Pool is big and clean. Looks well-maintained. Bad: - I made my reservation by calling the hotel directly, who redirected my call to Reservations. During the call, I told them three times (I probably annoyed them) that I needed two adjoining rooms. I made sure they acknowledged this fact. When I got to the hotel, they said that my request was not in their system and they just got me two separate rooms and didn't have adjoining rooms available. The positive out of this is that they eventually found me two adjoining rooms by upgrading one of the rooms to a corner room with a balcony for free. - My room's AC blew right onto the bed. It's currently summer so throughout the night I'd be blasted by freezing cold air, waking me up. - My rooms look a little worn. The bathroom counter has small holes and cracks in it. The tub has some kind of grey sealant dripped on it. And I think the carpets could use a cleaning. Not bad room conditions but just didn't feel too new. - You can't order movies on the TVs! I thought this was an easy way to squeeze money out of guests! I was hoping to rent a movie for my kids but they don't offer this. Overall, I had a nice stay. I'm not necessarily sure I'd choose this hotel if I were to go back to Ottawa but my stay served its purpose. read more

This is a nice hotel, there's no doubt about it, pretty much all of what you expect at a Marriot. We are bonvoy members and stay exclusively with the Marriot chain so needless to say we've stayed in many has a nice comfortable feel. The staff at this location has always been very helpful, polite and seem genuinely interested in making your stay comfortable. My wife loves the Starbucks that's right in the hotel by the lobby! You have great views of the river and parliament if your in the east side rooms. They are a reasonable size and I have always found them comfortable. The elevator wait is never too long either. The food in the restaurant is quite good for what it is, the breakfast buffet was very fresh and the buffet usuals like eggs, toast, bacon & fruit were very good. Location is good as others have stated but there are 2 Big problems with this hotel if your holiday travellers like me & my wife. 1) This hotel in the winter is over run with hockey families that seem to kinda take over the place. Now pls don't get me wrong, I love hockey, kids & families as I have a beautiful family of my own.. it's just when you are on holidays in a hotel and paying a fair amount each night for some comfort and there's so much activity happening... hour after hour after hour it can kinda wear on you. 2) Valet or just trying to park!! If you stay here with a car and its busy, especially if the number one problem is happening as well forget it!! Trying to get your can can take forever. We were actually late for a special movie presentation that we prebought tickets for cause they couldn't get our car and I gave them 20-25 minutes notice, and then waited another 20 minutes before calling for a cab! And that was a rental car I was paying valet $35 a day for. There's a real lack of parking in the parkade and bigger pickups can't get down there so they have them packed in right by the front doors so there is only one thru lane. It's far from ideal, I actually feel bad for the valets must be frustrating for them. No real parking on the street either in that area. **Now I do have to say they gave us a couple of breakfast buffet credits to make amends for that situation which I appreciated. If it's not hockey season and you don't have a car neither of these situations would be a problem so go ahead and give it a go. read more

Spent a weekend at the 4-star Ottawa Marriott Hotel, and I was able to get a discounted room rate through hotline, where I was able to bid on the price of a room. In the end, I was able to get the room for $85/night. I didn't have much time to check out the amenities of this hotel. My room was clean and comfortable with adequate desk space, WiFi, and a flat screen. I was able to have a quick look at their pool and weight room, which looked clean and recently updated. The hotel is in an ideal location if you're looking to be downtown and close to parliament. When I went, the hotel was crawling with pre-teen ringet players, who were racing up the halls and having a grand ol time playing games in the elevators, which caused me to wait a couple of minutes for my elevator ride... They weren't too much of a problem, but I would have expected the hotel to crack down on those little terrors. Regardless, I believe what I had was an average room for a 4 star hotel. If I need to stay in Ottawa again (hopefully not), and if I can get a room for $85, I'll give the Ottawa Marriott Hotel another go. read more

With hotels, little things say a lot. In the case of this Marriott, the little things are all telling you to stay the hell away. Little things like... well, where should I start? How about peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, clearly detaching because of moisture, and definitely not recently (see pic) - nobody worried about mold? Or finding the bathroom wastebasket on a chair, with a plastic garbage bag unceremoniously sitting beside it - guests are supposed to line wastebins themselves? Dirty dishes left for hours in the hall - staff not concerned about hygiene? Or the fact that the room's curtain had to be pulled by hand because staff couldn't be bothered to fix the drawing mechanism (see pic) - I guess that guest convenience / privacy isn't important? How about six very visible holes in the bathroom tile (see pic) - not too concerned about appearance & quality either, huh? Alarm clock not working properly - nobody worried about guests needing to be on schedules? And of course expired toiletries... seriously, complimentary shave cream was more than a year expired, expiry date plainly posted on the tube - what kind of hotel gives guests EXPIRED TOILETRIES? (see pic) There's also the small matter of visible pubic hairs on the bathroom floor when I first got into the room. The filthy water glass with food residue visible in it. Inconsistent restocking of the beverages tray. The dirty K-cup coffee machine... you get the idea. I'm sorry to say I spent $550 here, as did all of the other members of my team. I stayed here on a business trip for two nights, and it was A-ok. The location is near the river, next to the government buildings, but by 4 PM, there isn't very much to do around here. I stayed on the 22nd floor, so I had a nice view of the river. The room is pretty standard and basic, but fine enough for a quick stay. I didn't eat at the restaurant, but the Starbucks in the lobby is pretty busy in the morning. One thing that is interesting is that they charge you one rate for parking, but if you want in and out privileges, then you have to pay extra. With the limited food options around the hotel, I would definitely recommend paying the higher rate to park. read more

When we arrived the bellman was not outside or near the door for valet parking, we had to find him, he was a very nice guy and helpful. The check in was smooth and the desk staff was friendly. Comfortable bed and room had a view of the Ottawa river, the parliament buildings and the city itself which was awesome. Only downfall is the room service breakfast - we ordered two oatmeal's and tea. The oatmeal tasted like cardboard, didn't give us milk for it and only one serving of brown sugar to share and the tea was for two but they only gave us one cup. Ended up in Ottawa after a disastrous car-mishap on the way to Montreal. Figured we would make the best of our weekend and stay in Ottawa. Having never been, we wanted a hotel downtown. Used the Priceline App from Highway 401E and managed to scare the Marriott for a great price. Our view was GORGEOUS overlooking the canal and parliament buildings. Room was nice and clean with a super comfortable bed and a fridge, which I always enjoy. Television, free wifi in the lobby. Didn't use the pool as it was full of screaming kids, but did use the very large sauna. The fitness center was really good. Had everything you need and has been recently updated. The parking lot is under renovation and (I think) the lobby has just been completed. The parking is pricey, but as it was a weekend, the lot across the road has a $6 rate for Sat/Sun. Overall, we had a great stay. Good location for tourism, brief walk to all the sights and a inexpensive cab to Chinatown/little Italy. Would stay again, especially for the price we paid. read more

I really like this hotel. I spend a lot of time in Ottawa and I like coming here. I've always been treated well and they accommodate requests with no issues. The rooms are cozy (and I don't mean small). When I come back at the end of a long day, I can relax and fall asleep easily here. Here's an embarrassing admission- I travel frequently, and I always bring a bear (named Behr) with me that my boyfriend gave me. Whenever I stay here, they are so careful to incorporate her into the making of my bed! It probably seems silly but it's a personalized thing that makes this feel more like a home away from home than a foreign place away. read more

The Good: - location was good, walking distance of Parliament and Rideau Canal - starbucks at bottom of hotel - room was bright with big windows - fast check in - room fairly clean except for someone's sock I found on the floor.. The bad: - Mattress was terrible my husband and I both have sore back from the bed. It appears that they know the mattress is shot as they put an additional mattress top on the bed to "hide" it - Not enough soap in bathroom they supplied enough for one person. - Restaurant was ridiculously expense $4.00 for a cup of instant coffee. - No safe in the room - in today's time I feel this is really mandatory and a minimum for all hotels. I like staying at Marriott however I won't be going back to this one again. read more

This was a pretty solid Marriott with a few high points and a few low points. When I initially checked in, I was placed in a room with two double beds despite having requested a king. I called down from my room to report this and was immediately given a swanky corner room with a gorgeous view and two walls of windows. Fantastic! This room was HUGE with tons of unused space - big enough that I could work out easily without having to go downstairs to the gym. Not that the gym was bad, mind you. It's quite a nice gym with lots of equipment. But when you're at a hotel for a work function, sometimes you don't want to spend all day with a group of people and then make awkward chit-chat when they pop up next to you on a treadmill. You know? Oh - and I can't forget to mention there's a Starbucks in the lobby. Gotta love that. So: good rooms, good catering (for the meeting I attended, anyway), good gym, good Starbucks. Now for the negatives: Every hotel guest must decide to go online at the same time each evening, because the WiFi is incredibly slow between 9 and 11pm. I barely had any problems at other times of day so I assume it's a network traffic issue. Of course, it's hard to complain when Marriotts elsewhere charge for WiFi and this was completely free. But still. Proximity to the Parliament Buildings means LOTS of school tour groups stay here. Be forewarned that the lobby and elevators may be overrun with teenagers at any given time. Finally, the setup of the conference rooms is strange. They're split between multiple floors, but the stairwell to get back and forth between floors 2 and 3 feels like you're going into some back corridor for staff only. It's not a very friendly setup, and just feels a bit tired. Overall, though, this was a very decent stay and reasonably priced. I'd stay here again! read more

Located quite close to everything, this hotel is a great place to stay whether that's for business or leisure. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and stayed for one night until Easter Monday. Since it was Easter Sunday, the hotel was relatively empty when we arrived, but by the time we were leaving, we were able to see many more people. We booked our one King bed Guest room through Priceline, so we were able to grab a room a little more affordably than average. It was our first time using Priceline, and so far, so good! Since we used Priceline, it was prepaid so we only had to secure a deposit and incidental fees. Upon arriving, our room was very clean and bright. We were on the 19th floor, and the view was alright. I was glad I didn't come face to face with other people across the road. What we found interesting was that the windows actually slid open like balcony windows. During the summer, it would be nice to open them up and let the summer breeze come in. It was still slightly chilly to open the doors up so we had them closed during our stay. The bed had a large headboard with built in bedside tables. On it were two standard lamps which had built in plugs which was convenient for us to charge our electronic devices, a phone, memo pad, and an alarm clock. Across from the bed, there was a dresser with a TV, an office desk next to it with a big lamp, and a Keurig machine with various teas and coffees for us to enjoy. There wasn't much, but it was much more convenient to have the Keurig than a regular coffee machine like many other hotels do. We enjoyed the coffee and Earl Grey tea that they provided as complimentary. The cups were also in sealed plastic bags, so we knew that the cups were completely safe and clean to use. Behind the Keurig machine were numerous outlets to charge your electronics and other outlets for your cables and such. If you're the type to bring around your HDMI cable, or ever wanted to use the TV as your second monitor, you could definitely do so through these outlets here. Beside the Keurig machine was a coffee table with the standard ice bucket and two bottles of water. There was a fee for drinking the water, $2.50, that will go on your check out bill if you decided to drink it. The dresser underneath the TV also had a mini fridge that you could use. We took advantage of that and stored our drinks in there that we brought with us. There were also cabinets for extra storage if needed. What was great about Ottawa Marriott Hotel was that they offered In-Room high speed internet for free! There were two options available: complimentary or at a day rate of $9.99, depending on the internet speed you wanted. We chose to try out the complimentary internet, and it was fast enough for us! It was actually faster than our internet back at home. Beside the bathroom is a small closet stocked with an ironing board, iron, extra pillows and blankets, as well as coat hangers. We didn't see a security deposit/box that we usually see in hotels; I'm not sure if it was just us (that we weren't able to find it) or if Marriott didn't have it. The bathroom is unfortunately a little outdated because the building itself is quite old. However, it was still very clean and everything worked fine and perfectly. The towels were kept on the rack on the opposite side of the shower for easy access. There were no bathrobes provided. The hair dryer was kept behind the bathroom door on the hanger. The dryer was average, old but worked fine. I didn't particularly use it, but my hubby had no problems drying his hair. The thermometer in the hotel room worked well (I had problems in other hotels in the past), and it kept us very warm throughout the night. It was easy to use as well. All in all, though it was a short stay, it was a greatly appreciated one, and everything at the hotel was comfortable. Everyone working at the hotel was polite, kind, and very helpful. There were 2 ways to park your vehicle at the hotel: self parking or valet, and if you're the one to come in and out many times throughout the day, we highly suggest you valet park, as the price difference is only $6. With self parking, you do not get in and out privileges. I would love it even more if their washrooms could be a little more updated though. We would recommend coming to Marriott for your business stay or leisure travel, as both needs can be easily met by the four-star hotel. The hotel is pet friendly, has a well equipped gym, swimming pool, numerous conference rooms, a nice restaurant, and even a Starbucks connected to the lobby on the first floor. read more

I booked two rooms here through Hotwire and immediately went to the reviews. I read a lot of scary things about this place, but pretty much all of them were unwarranted. One of the most pressing concerns was the underground parking lot. But after parking here for one night I figure that those who complained were probably just horrible drivers! The price for parking was a complete rip off ($18!) but if you have to park there, driving won't be a problem. But you know what WAS a problem? The noise of the elevators all night long! My room wasn't even near the elevator bank, but the noise kept me up for quite a while. It made for a pretty uncomfortable sleep, and considering the price per night, even through Hotwire, I wouldn't stay there again. A decent, if dated, Marriott hotel in an easy downtown location. I had a corner room on the 17th floor overlooking the Parliament building which was nice. The Wifi speed seemed really good, though it hated my iPad for some reason. A great touch in the room was a small Keurig coffee machine. Overall the appearance was nice but it just had an 'old building' smell. Don't know if there is any kind of industrial Febreeze they can use, but it would help out. Stay Away!! Had 3 colleagues check in to the Mariott -- This hotel was great 2-3 years back (2007/8) -- Now its gone to the Dogs!! Stay away from the hotel -- the folks all the way from the registration to service are very inconsiderate & rude. Strongly recommend the Courtyard Marriott at www.MarriottCourtyardOttawa.com. I stayed here for 2 nights and it was really hard not to compare this hotel to a 70 year old who had got some Botox and a facelift. Meet her at a fancy dinner party with the lights turned down low and she's a stunner. Meet her bikinied self on the beach on a bright summer day and you'd be like "ma'am there's a discrepancy between the face and the body". Now that I've exorcised my inner metaphor-loving alter ego, let's get on with this review Parking is not free. Parking elevators are 50 shades of dingy but hotel elevators are nice and would be much nicer if the rails were not covered in fingerprints and stuff. Room was nice but noisy. (Construction noise from the lot outside and Reno noises from the rooms beside mine) Front staff and service staff were very responsive and friendly. Ordered a margarita from the bar and it tasted like a limeade on ice so I bypassed the restaurant for the rest of my stay. In room wifi was free and fast. All in all this hotel had the excellent level of service I know and expect from the Marriott brand. Just that age and location are not doing it any favors. If you can get it for a low rate on Priceline, totally worth it. read more

Stayed here for two nights in June. Great location - 5 minute walk from Parliament, 10 minute walk from Byward Market. Underground parking was a bit pricy ($35ish total) but not terrible. It's a bit of a "workmanlike" Marriott, but it gets the job done. The lobby is attractive, recently renovated, and has a Starbucks attached. The rooms themselves are nothing spectacular - average size, and the bathrooms are pretty small. The beds were extremely comfortable. For an extra $10 per night, we got a room with a (very no-frills) balcony. Front desk/concierge staff was helpful (aside from them suggesting a lunch restaurant that turned out to be closed on the weekends...no biggie.) read more

Room are great, staff is very courteous and helpful. Rates were terrific for a downtown hotel and parking was as expected for a dt hotel. The kids area quite simply blew my mind. I've never seen anything like it. I might come back to Ottawa and stay here just so that my kids can play in the area again. I had a chat with the director of sales and marketing and I was amazed that he not only took tremendous pride in his hotel, but of all Marriotts. That's the kind of person I want managing a hotel I'm stating in. Keep up the good work. read more

BEWARE OF ATTEMPTED THEFT OF CLEANING STAFF!!!!! We were not due to check out until 11am, went to have breakfast came back and everything was turned over, we had two rooms, my parents loves to bring fruits on trips and some of the fruits were organic and fresh, we plan to eat them later at a pinic. My mother left her Iphone in the room and could not find it, and asked the lady where it was. She said she didn't see it. We went around our cars and the second room still could not find it. Until we heard a faint sound. it was right in the middle of the bed under the new sheets that the lady put on. We also found our fruits divided in multiple bags. where she claims they thought it was a gift left behind for them as a TIP. LMFAO. really..and the management kept standing on the cleaning lady's side. BUT tell me this, why did you start cleaning my room when I obvious has stuff in there, and HAVE Not checked out? We got free parking, and got $20 dollars back. my parents were too nice...we wanted to have a good rest of the week. we just left...But beware!!!!! read more
