Parliament
Leigh M.

Very nice hotel located across from the Rideau Canal and Parliament. We had some difficulty getting into the main entrance because of all the street closures due to the truck convoy protests happening a block away. We ended up doing valet parking (since we couldn't find the entrance to the parking garage) and Mohamed was wonderful. He was so patient and answered our 50 questions :-) The front desk clerk was nice and helpful. The room she assigned us did not have the floor to ceiling windows that we requested so we went back downstairs and another clerk assigned us with our requested room type with a perfect view (out of the floor to ceiling windows) of the Parliament building. The room was ok but the toilet didn't flush properly so an engineer came to the room to fix it. The bed also looked like someone had been sleeping in or on it . Definitely not that crisp, tightly made up bed I'm accustomed to seeing. But it was nice and comfortable.

Very nice and modern hotel in a very good location. Most Westins are pretty nice and this one is right there with most of them but they get an extra bonus for the location. They are walking distance to alot of sight seeing as well as being pretty much right next door to a Mall. The rooms are nice and spacious and comfortable. The beds at Westins are usually the best and this one was no exception. The staff here are very very attentive and helpful. Door guys as well as the front desk. I was greeted every time I returned through the lobby and always asked if I needed help with anything on the way out. Definitely a return visit here when I am in the area.

Dust dust everywhere

Stayed over Labour Day weekend on the 10th floor. First room assigned to us, the bath sink had lots of other colours hair in it. Yuck. Rest of room looks clean so maybe they missed the sink? Not impressed though. Went down to guest services and after trying to call housekeeping with no luck they agreed to change our room. Second change wasn't better. It was next to the original room so probably the same housekeeping staff. It Alo had some strands of other color hair and dust everywhere. I am guessing it's because less guests stay during COVID times but it would be nice not to sleep in room of dust since I'm allergic to dust. But by then it was 7 pm and my little one needed to eat and I was too tired to bother. Rest of the stay was okay but seriously not impressed. Bed was comfortable, pool area was nice, next day morning food grab at Daly Express was pleasant and tasty. But requests to service for extra towels and microwave for my baby took 3 separate calls over 3 hours to finally arrive. Only other mention is I seriously do not like the elevators. Elevators take forever during popular times. Inconvenient because you have to scan your card and choose the floor before getting in, you can't choose floors once in the elevator and it closes on you before you can get in. Seriously annoying Location is convenient and close to everything but not the safest to walk alone at night

I have a couple days of client meetings in Ottawa and my home away from Monday and last night was the Westin Ottawa. I've stayed here a couple times in the past. To get to your floor, you pressed you floor # and an elevator was assigned to you ... with the "L0L", I'm assuming the elevators had a sense of humour? The bed was comfy! Alas, no tub but the shower was big. I could see the Parliament Buildings, Chateau Laurier, etc. from my window. In the room, there was a mini fridge, coffee maker, bathrobe, etc. WIFI was complimentary and was speedy. Parking was either $42 plus taxes a night for valet parking or $25 plus taxes a night for self-parking at the parking lot which was attached to the hotel (which is what I did). The hotel is near ByWard Market, lots of restaurants, the Parliament Buildings, etc. ... plus it's Winterlude, which was nearby. There is a pool, hot tub, fitness room, etc. in the hotel but I didn't get a chance to check them out.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Located downtown, next to Byward Market, this sky rise hotel overlooks the area. Great views of the canals, lakes, parliament, historical monuments, shopping, dining, and nightlife. The rooms are emaculate, especially if get one of the end rooms/suite. Hotel and throughout done with contemporary furniture. Great conference facility. They are also connected to a mall. Two dining facilities, Daleys and the shore club. They have you covered 24x7. Just a really nice hotel and conveniently located on the main strip downtown. You will not be disappointed.

Unless you want to ball out and stay at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, this is probably the next best hotel in Ottawa. The Residence Inn off Elgin is a total dump and the Courtyard in the Byward Market is a far cry from Marriott's finest property. I stayed here for 3 weeks while on business. The front desk, knowing this in advance, automatically bumped me to a Starwood preferred guest floor. (I only opened my Starwood rewards account just before staying here). Check-in was painless, although the bellhop loaded my luggage onto the luggage cart, then moved it into the lobby, but then disappeared before I had to push the cart up to my room myself. Oh well. His loss. Fantastic location. Very close to the Byward Market, Parliament and other major tourist attractions such as the National Gallery. If you're a runner, you're steps away from the path along the Rideau Canal and about 1/4 mile from the path that runs along the Ottawa River. When you come back from your run, don't be surprised if a staff member in the lobby offers you a towel and bottle of water. Classy. The men's locker room has a nice sauna, which I normally found to be empty. Outdoor seating area on the 6th floor sun deck with a view of the Fairmont. Indoor pool. If you feel like the gym by the pool with all the cardio equipment is light on weightlifting equipment, that's because there's a whole other weight room next to the squash courts. This was not intuitive. I'm a huge fan of the fact that they stock the room with Starbuck's coffee (Pike Place). Lastly - and I'm sure this probably applies to all Starwood properties - but I love their "green program" that allows you to opt out of daily housekeeping in exchange for an extra 500 points per day. Housekeeping did skip me once, only by one day, but they came up and took care of me after I called. The only downfall I see to opting for the extra points is that housekeeping doesn't stock you up well enough with three days worth of supplies. The end result was I had to chase down the maid just about every day for extra towels, mouth wash, lotion, etc. The only other thing that sucks in general about this hotel is the speed of the elevators. There are four banks, but over 20 floors so be prepared to wait as much as up to 15 minutes during busy check-in hours. Want to take the stairs instead? Tough luck. The stairs are only intended for emergency use, leading you outdoors with no re-entry.

I want to take a moment to give a HUGE thank you for Phil Lamothe who is the Chef Concierge at the hotel. Having worked in service industries for many years I can appreciate good customer service when I see it. We chatted for a few minutes as I do not have phone service in Canada (curse you AT&T) and I asked him for recommendations for places to eat. After giving me several good options, circling and drawing on a PAPER map and making sure I understood where to go he said... "You aren't from around here are you... Do you like beer? What is your room number I'll have a few cold ones sent up to make you feel at home." I have to say... I travel for work and it is hotel to hotel every week. This small act of connecting and service has hands down been the best experience I've had at any hotel to date. It always is fun to be in a new city but it sucks to be away from home and family and loved ones. It gets tiring and lonely. The hotel is immaculate. The rooms are huge and very nicely remodeled. Everything is actually seemingly brand new, TV's, beds, furniture and massive showers. The hotel is a 5/5... The STAFF is a 10/5. Thank you guys for making my stay a memorable one. Your Minnesotan buddy!

Using my SPG Cash and Points so I did not pay the full price for my one night stay during my Weekend in Ottawa. I love the location of Westin Ottawa. It is located in walking distance to everywhere. Parliament Hill is just right across, and 2 minute walk you at Byward Market where you can find all the bars and restaurants. Direct link to Rideau Centre where you can do a little shopping. The room with 2 Queen beds is well appointed and spacious. Love all the plugs in the room!!! Sadly there is no free wifi.... I am ok with that since I have my mobile data plan but for out of the country visitors that is just not acceptable!! Will I stay here again? Yes as long as the price is right! On site parking is not cheap but that's the cost of staying downtown area.

I stayed at the Westin Ottawa because I attended a conference at the convention center across the street. The Westin has its own conference facilities, although the walk over to the convention center is simple enough as there is a bridge that connects the two on the second story of the Westin. In order to get in the elevators, you must first tap your key to the key pad and then put in the floor you want to visit. You'll then be told which elevator to get in. I guess it's a good security measure to make only hotel guests get to the guest floors. The hotel rooms are really nice, and the staff are very friendly. The only aspect I could complain about is check-in. When I arrived, so did many of the other folks from my flight in. I guess we were all attending the same conference. The line to check-in was quite long. It took about 20 minutes, however they did handout water bottles to all of us waiting, so it wasn't really a big deal. Maybe just something to build a little extra time into your schedule to check-in before you set off on whatever has brought you to Ottawa.

View from room is great.

Love this hotel. connects to good shopping mall. Staff is very helpful. Very short walk to the parliament and other must sees. Rooms are a good size, particularly if you are traveling with a baby.

Working gear for $5 USD - pack light, stay fit. Neat idea.

I love the Westin, I really do. I love it for sentimental reasons as well as genuine five star quality reasons - I will share it all! The Westin has been an iconic downtown Ottawa Hotel for years. It may not have the history or castle-like ambience of the Chateau Laurier, but it has a few other features that may just push it over the top. For instance, it's connected directly to the Rideau center and the conference center, making it incredibly practical for work and play. The renovations over the years (while they may be been a pain at the time) have kept the hotel looking snazzy and elegantly functional, and it maintains all the key features of any higher-end main stream hotel: gym, pool, spa, restaurants, valet Peking, and wonderful guest service (in that guest that tends to call for little extras such as real cream for in-room coffee - they are happy to oblige). Hubby and I recently spent a night in the Westin - we had a gift certificate including breakfast, so we took a little stay-cation. It was WONDERFUL! Even though our room didn't have the greatest view (our room was free...) the room was really neat. Not quite a traditional shape as I'm sure they have made the most of the building, but we didn't feel like we had gotten the crummy option - it was really done nicely! Roomy, nice bathroom, all the amenities, and an amazingly comfy king sized bed. I loved the sheets too; so soft! I must say the blanket system was a little different (or maybe it's me): one flat sheet, a weighted blanket (good for anxiety), a second flat sheet, and the top duvet. During the night, I got a little tangled up in it all, but overall it was a great nights sleep. The overnight stay came with breakfast in the morning: it was a beautiful buffet with every option you could want. Everything I tried was lovely, but I will say that the batter for the waffles/pancakes could use a little tweaking - both items were a little too crumbly. Otherwise, it was all delicious and the service was excellent. They are currently working on adding a top floor skyline event space which looks like it's going to be fantastic. It's probably a little pricey, but it may be worth it - we shall see come June 2017!

Stayed here for 3 days and was amazed by the hotel. Location is as good as it gets, 5 minute walk to Parliament Hill 3 minute walk to Byward Market, 20 minute walk to Gatineau and right across the Rideau Centre. Rooms -Our room was very clean and really spacious, the beds are extremely comfortable it was almost impossible to get up in the morning. -Washrooms are very bright and modern, and had a cool sliding door to get in. Shower was typical though, nothing special. -We had a view of the Parliament buildings! Absolutely worth the upgrade. -Free newspapers everyday and mini fridge comes in handy when you buy drinks (buy it from Shopper's Drugmart in Rideau Centre to save money!). -No free wifi in rooms, but the lobby has free access. Atmosphere -Business type hotel, although it's good for families too. -Pool and fitness centre was better than most hotels and really modern too. -Elevators are unique haha, make sure you enter in the floor you want to go to before you get into an elevator. -Everything was a little expensive, the wifi in the rooms, room service, the restaurants etc. But Byward Market should be suitable for your meals. -Really friendly houseperson! She said good morning every time we saw her and really seemed to care about us having a good time in Ottawa. Overall, I'd come to the hotel during off season because their prices are a little high, but if you can afford it you'll have a terrific time. P.S Self parking is a little overpriced too, so once you park your car it's $20 for 24 Hours but you're charged everytime you leave the garage, so WALK (Ottawa is a really nice city to walk in) or take the bus to go places.

Tray brought to me (with compliments) by the valet guy who noticed I was feeling a little under the weather. An amazing gesture.

The elevators in this place suck ass. Want to get somewhere in a reasonable period of time? Then don't stay at the Westin.

The concierge wasn't in at the time of our arrival and check-in was seamless. Soho Champagne communicated with me prior to check-in to ensure all my questions were answered. Plus, this place is conveniently located near Little Italy and Chinatown. I wished that we were able to stay longer. There are 3 reasons that I knocked off a star. Before I get into these, I'll mention that I was given a number to call if I had any problems with the room, but I didn't think any of the problems were worth calling about. First, the remote to open the garage didn't work from inside the car (maybe low/no battery?) and I had to get out of the car each time to get the garage door to open. Second, upon check-in I took a shower and there were 2 long and noticeable hairs stuck to the wall of the shower. Finally, I could not for the life of me get the TV in the bedroom to work. For the price of the room, I'd expect a bit more attention to detail in these areas. All in all, we had an amazing time and would definitely stay at Soho Champagne again.
