Great place to stay when visiting Ottawa. Located downtown Ottawa, this hotel sits a few blocks Parliament and local attractions. As well, a 12-15 minute walk over to Byward Market Area. This hotel has a very nice bar and restaurant. Staff were great. Good gym onsite. I was too busy this trip to try it out. I will definitely consider this hotel next visit. read more

No major complaints, the rooms are kind of old/dated and the popcorn ceiling should really go, but for a one night stay it's fine. This place is conveniently located near Parliament Hill and the other major tourist attractions. I appreciated that they allowed me to check in a couple of hours early and provided free water bottles. read more

This hotel does meet expectations and has the basic amenities. I stayed for one night and I have no complaints. It is in the city and is walking distance from most attractions. The bed was very comfortable so I am very happy about that. The hotel also provides disposable toothbrushes and toothpaste if you forget. The only thing about this hotel is that is does look a bit outdated in the rooms and my ac was not working as well as it could have but other than that, I enjoyed my stay. read more

I really liked it here. First, it was super clean and everyone was friendly. The room was very large and spacious and I could watch CNN and a few other tv channels that we get in the States. The people at the front desk were amazing and super accommodating. I loved the indoor heated pool and they did have a nice fitness center although I didn't use it. Why didn't I use the fitness center? I was busy getting my 10,000 steps in everyday. I had a conference at the Shaw Centre which was about an 11 minute walk from here. The Rideau shopping center/mall was about the same distance. Parliament Hill is about 8 minutes form here. Byward Market is about 17 minutes from here. Sparks street with shopping and food is about 5 minutes from here. All walking distance. It was perfect. However, it is in the business district so after around 4ish, everything shuts down. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I had no issues at all. read more

My home away from home last night was the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel. Parking was valet parking and $27 (including taxes). There aren't any restaurants nearby but there are some within walking distance (20 minute walk to Byward Market). There are two restaurants in the hotel ... I had pizza at one of them, Sacha's Bar, last night and though the restaurant had no ambiance, the pizza was good. There was a fitness room and pool but they are currently closed and under maintenance. There was a complimentary small bottle of water, which I always appreciate (the large one was $3). My room had a coffee maker and a mini fridge ... I discovered this morning that the fridge was too cold as my water and milk were frozen :( WIFI was complimentary and speedy. Right at 8am loud construction started ... it sounded like it was right under my room. I was already up but I wouldn't have been happy if I was here on vacation and looking forward to sleeping in. You would think that I would have been advised that it would become noisy at 8am when I checked in last night. read more

Let me start by saying we stayed here twice on recent trips to Ottawa, primarily because there was a $200 voucher from the City of Ottawa that was applied at check-out. This essentially made our stay 50% off. We booked two rooms separately to apply the voucher, so it was certainly worthwhile. The stay (with the voucher was around $125 per night). This rate made the hotel worthwhile. Would it have been worthwhile at $250 per night? No. The hotel is dated, and I think Sheraton knows it. While the staff try really hard, and are very helpful and friendly, their ability to fix the problems are limited. Here are some issues we encountered: 1. All hotel bars and restaurants are closed, and never re-opened since society started opening up. Not really sure why. Probably a staffing issue. 2. No room service. We knew this when we booked. 3. The rooms are very dated. The beds are apparently new, and very comfortable, but the bathrooms are quite old. It just feels old and tired. 4. The wifi is very spotty. The first time we stayed, we had no problems. The second time, random devices wouldn't connect ("Network Configuration Error"). On our last day, I was able to get one of the devices working by spending 20 minutes on the phone with tech support. They had to manually clear my MAC address. Not really great for a large business-oriented hotel. 5. On one stay, one of our bathtubs had "stuff" in it at check-in. Not sure what, but we got housekeeping to re-clean the bathroom. 6. The gym is just OK. It has excellent cardio machines and a set of free-weights, but only one weightlifting machine. Pretty limited. 7. Only valet parking, and the valet staff are way overworked. There's not enough of them, so the wait for the car was a bit long. Advantages: 1. Great staff, friendly service. They tried really hard. 2. Convenient location. It's about 10 minutes walk to Elgin, and 15 minutes to the Byward Market. 3. They have a nice pool area, although it was very busy when we stayed. Overall worthwhile for a bargain, if you can get it. But I wouldn't advise paying full fare. read more

Stayed at the Sheraton for first week of winter life! PRIIME LOCATION in the city!! Close to everything, literally walking distance to spark street, parliment house and everything in the city. Really great customer service, they were serving free hot chocolate and cookies each day. Everyone was really sweet! They gave us recommendations to go see. They have vallet parking for 25$ for 24hrs with in and out privileges. Pool is nice too, not that big, small gym also. Rooms were decent size also! Got a double bed room. read more

The room was clean, with comfortable and adjustable A/C. It is in downtown Ottawa, but the rooms are quiet at night. The beds are Sheraton mattress, so it makes u sleep well. Also, we liked the valet parking staff and the front desk staff. Very friendly people. It's only 5 mins walk to the parliament and the Rideau shopping centre. Will come back. read more

My visit started out great! Upon entering my room, I was greeted with a lovely tray with a Pellegrino, a Fruit basket and a note from the sales manager welcoming me back to the Sheraton. I thought this was a really classy touch and it made me feel great about coming to this hotel. The rooms are quite nice and very spacious. Everything was clean, comfortable and well laid out. I don't recommend eating in the restaurant; the food wasn't that great, and it was incredibly overpriced. As an example, for breakfast I ordered an egg white omelette with avocado and spinach. I believe the cost was around $17, and I received an overcooked rubbery omelet. If you're going to charge me that much for three egg whites, a quarter of an avocado, and a small handful of spinach, you had better freaking well get it perfect! In the evening I went down to the bar, to find out their wine selection was not appealing and very limited. If you can catch it early enough, there is an LCBO right across the street which probably would have been a better option. Valet parking is mandatory, and cost $25. I would have no problem with this, except in the morning, it is nearly impossible to get in or out because the valet guys are so overwhelmed (on the particular morning that I'm referring to, there were three conferences occurring at the hotel, so lots of people coming in). The hotel is located on a one-way street, which makes it very difficult for people trying to arrive at the hotel when it's busy. There is no where else that you can legally stop or park unless you are able pull right into the parking garage, which just isn't possible when the valet guys are already busy. I noticed quite a few people looked irritated and inconvenienced. They clearly need a better system for this! One of the pros of being right downtown, is that the hotel is accessible to a lot of nice amenities, and is great for sightseeing. If you're planning to get out in the city and explore the Parliament buildings, etc., then you were in the perfect spot. It's only about a 10 minute walk to the mall, and maybe 15 minutes to byward market. After all, I think I will most likely be returning to my preferred hotel across the river - Four Points by Sheraton. Better value and less hassle. I may also consider trying the Westin on a future visit. Watch for my review. read more

The Chateau Laurier and Westin were booked -- the reservation people said my trip coincided with the Tulip Festival -- so it was the Sheraton for me. My room was large, quiet and comfortable. Excellent shower, comfortable bed, quiet a/c, big screen TV, and plenty of light over the sink. Great location for jogging. The staff was friendly and helpful. The gym was ok but not a standout. One of the worst experiences at a hotel. Made a reservation for a room with 2 queen beds. Arrived in the evening, and they had oversold the hotel. After taking over an hour to get us into a room, the best they could do was a room with a king and a cot. We then had to wait almost another hour before the cot arrived. They did not knock on the door to let us know it had arrived, it was just left in the hallway. I had to drag it in and set it up, make the bed, etc. When I notified customer service of this miserable experience, they assured me many times that my business was important to them, however, they offered no compensation, or remedy for their initial mess up or the lack of customer service that followed. They assured me that the manager of the hotel was going to contact me, but they did not. read more

Like all sheratons, the beds are amazing. I ended up actually ordering one of their pillows because it's that great. Service was good, bar was good. Only weird thing- Valet parking is mandatory... Don't mind the cost, but having someone else driving your rental car can be nerve wracking. read more

This hotel has been beat up in the reviews and I'll admit, my first and second choices were booked. So, I stayed at the Sheraton based on location and gambled regarding the room. I was super kind sucking up to the front desk agent, so she gave me a king Club level room which was really nice. My rate included breakfast for 2, but since we were 3, they threw in an extra breakfast buffet. The Pub was nice, even if the Canucks lost and people were depressed, the staff was super friendly and the room was in an excellent location. read more

Had a great stay here last night. It's pretty close to stuff, if we were here for longer, we would have done more Ottawa-like things. Like skating on the canal etc. We booked this hotel b/c it's dog friendly, and boy are they ever! They were super accommodating, they brought up a dog bed, dog bowls, and doggie bags, they offered us treats for the girls. The room was large, and comfortable, we were facing the main road, so we could hear salt trucks or something at night, but other than that, it was really great. Super clean and the staff were outstanding. Will come again! read more

So it has a great location but I wasn't a huge fan... the place feels very tight in the lobby, etc. as they are trying to squeeze a lot in. We did an event here in the O'Conner room, and the room was nice, great for an event... and had bathrooms inside which was wonderful, but i was annoyed that the manager would not allow me, the host of the event, to have free internet for a few minutes... he said i would be charged as anyone else.... i get that as a guest you are charged, but for someone from Microsoft throwing a large event and paying a pretty penny, i would think they would allow a $4.00 internet charge to be comped. This is just a point of service... i didn't care about the charge, but it was the fact that there should be some give and take. The food was quite good, though, although they don't allow you to box and take your leftovers, which is so annoying! I get laws but if i paid for the food, i should be able to take some cake to go! :) read more

Sadly we were very disappointed with our stay here .We booked for Family Day/Winterlude and the staff was overwhelmed rude and disorganized. The manager was awful when we complained and we heard many other guests complaining during our stay which made the environment tense. The parking was full the entire weekend and we ended paying to park in a garage, the hotel elevators were malfunctioning and we probably won't stay with any Sheraton again! The only good thing I can say is the hotel restaurant served very good food and the hot chocolate they provided was a nice treat from the cold of Winterlude. read more

A solid hotel in downtown Ottawa, this Sheraton will wow you with the accommodating service of its staff and their genuine friendliness. They are cheerful without being intrusive or familiar and do try to service your needs. The staff, Joanne and Ahmed, in the Carleton Grill, were the nicest and super sweet. Even the room attendant I met in the hall went out of her way to be helpful. The spacious room was sparkling clean, with temperature controls that were easy to operate and quiet, a large bathroom and a comfortable bed. Was the décor generic? Sure, but I wasn't looking for interior design splendor but a good night's sleep. This hotel is in a great location, just a short 5 minute walk to Parliament and a 15 minute walk to other places like the Byward and the Rideau Center. Across the street is the huge drugstore, a bonus if you guzzle water the way I do. It's also close to the many shops on Bank Street, only a block away and Albert Street is a thoroughfare for many bus lines. There's a small pool that was packed the day I arrived and a small gym, both very clean. The lobby is small and somewhat cramped depending on the crowd, with a concierge who functions as bellhop and concierge, so be patient! The Starbucks in the lobby is also merely a counter but the servers rush to help you. The hotel's a nice place to stay if you are in Ottawa and want to see the sights. read more

I stayed here for a week together with some colleagues for a week long meeting we were helping to organize (also in the hotel). First the downsides: 1) not a very large hotel nor is it very new. 2) in a quiet part of town. Although it's near the nice parliament buildings. But hardly any shops nearby. You can walk abt 10 mins to bank street where there are shops but it's a fairly low end street. Not a huge problem though, there's still nice places to eat n stuff. 3) hotel elevators had this problem where they wouldn't always come if you pressed "down". Since I was staying on a high floor I just pressed both up and down and it came every time. When I told the reception they were quite apologetic and told me they were waiting for a part to arrive to fix them. Apparently they also reserved one elevator so that if you had problems getting an elevator you could just call them and they wld send it straight up to you. Now the gd stuff: 1) rates were good. Our organizer had a block booking rate and it's one of the lower block booking rates I've paid. 2) large room with very comfortable bed 3) extremely friendly staff everywhere. Reception, bar, restaurant, meeting services etc. not overly friendly, but very nice and personable. 4) hotel restaurant (surprisingly) serves great food at decent prices. Try their weekday buffet, they have very good stuff there. Ala carte food and drinks was great too. This offset problem 2) above and was very very welcome for me - I loves being able to just head straight for the restaurant in the same hotel after a long day of meetings rather than have to go out to find something. In particular the waitress Joanne was super friendly, they had nice Canadian wines and I loved their steak sandwich (real juicy steak) - had it twice. Avoid their burgers though. 5) despite the small size, it actually has a small pool and a decent looking gym. Overall, it was the first time I've stayed in a hotel where I was very comfortable and happy just staying in the hotel. It may not be the newest but it's comfortable and nice (not opulent) and friendly. All my colleagues loved their stay. The only thing preventing me from giving them 5 stars is the lift issue which hopefully gets fixed soon. read more

We were surprised by family with a surprise " staycation" at this hotel. We came into the lobby and we checked in. The staff member was polite, gave us our room keys and told us about the pool and gym facilities. My first impression was that the hotel was clean, so far so good. We even got to enjoy their pool all to ourselves. We knew that breakfast was included as our family had advised us, so the next morning when we went downstairs at10:20 to ask where breakfast was being held, to which the front desk attendant said : "you missed it. It's over ". We asked when it ended she just said "10:00"and just looked at us blankly. No "I'm sorry you missed it" or "Let me see what I can do for you". Now my issue with this is that upon check in, no one told us that 1) breakfast was included and 2) advised us of when it ended. I left pretty upset, as well as unsatisfied and I got the impression that the staff just didn't really care about their guests. To make matters worse, we wanted to leave to walk to a breakfast joint and figured that we would leave our luggage in the car as it was parked in their underground parking. We asked if this was possible as we were ready to leave, luggage in hand and they directed us to drop off our luggage to the car - and that's what we did. We said thank you and goodbye and went off. A few hours later after we found a breakfast place and my fiance realized that we had not actually "checked out " so he called the hotel and asked if we could check out over the telephone as we were out a fair walk away. It was 12:35 when he called and they advised that if we were not back at the hotel by 1:00 that we would be charged a late check out fee. This is where I had had enough. We ran back to the hotel and made it just in time for 1:00, and we were not charged. I definitely did not feel as though we were valued guests or being treated as such, but then again I also plan to never come back. I will gladly go elsewhere where I am made to feel like a valued guest and where the staff take the time to explain things to us and make us feel welcome. read more

Seldom do I find a hotel that merits such a five. It was a perfect combination of outstanding customer service and very comfortable rooms Right from when we arrived we were treated exactly the way you would imagine. When the staff learned we were experiencing the joys of having the airline lose one of our bags, they jumped into high gear to help. On Day 3 one of the fellows at the front desk asked if everything had worked out. Awesome. The room is nicely appointed. Excellent bed and a good selection of pillows. The shower was the one less than stellar option. It was okay. Adequate converted 'ancient' bathtub to a shower The coffee machine is worth mentioning. Even with many local coffee shops in the area, they can only tie the cup you get with the Sheraton steam machine. Negatives: parking. Steep valet parking as the only hotel option and the on street options are expensive during the day. Free after 5:30PM though. Mentioned the shower as being okay and the black out curtains are about 1 inches too short, so the room gets very bright once the sun comes up What made it comfortable for me to give it a 5 was the attitude of the staff, be it front desk, concierge or room attendants read more

Two nights here. Valet service is fast, pleasant, checking in was also fast and our room is quite large and super comfortable. Lots of outlets to plug in our phones and laptops, great bed and bathroom. The penthouse breakfast is very nice too. Not eggs and bacon, but most everything else for a weekday breakfast. The Sheraton at Albert and Metcalfe is never a disappointment. I've stayed there twice, both times were a great experience. For those who are not familiar with Ottawa, the location is prime! A 5 minute walk from the Rideau centre, one street over from Bank street, where you can find plenty of great restaurants, and not far from the Byward Market. The lobby is beautiful and well-kept; Lenova touch screen computers for guests to use, plush couches, friendly staff and a upscale wine bar/lounge. The rooms are equally as pleasant. You can expect cleanliness, comfort and adequate space in any of their suites. Rooms are equipped with a safe for your valuable, which is always nice to have. I've stayed in the king suite during both of my visits and the rooms also included Starbucks coffee and glasses with an ice bucket, in case you wanted to make it a special occasion ;) read more

When we first moved to Ottawa, we stayed at this hotel. It is in a great location and it's easy to walk to whatever you need. The beds are incredibly comfortable as you would expect with any Sheraton hotel. Also, common to most Sheratons, the showers are great with good water pressure and lots of hot water. I am an SPG member so I stay at a lot of SPG hotels. This is a nice Sheraton but not the best I have stayed at. I also was in a club level room so I may have had a comparatively great and spacious room. I also had to have some documents couriered as quickly as possible and they did this for me. The concierge was not friendly and seemed annoyed that I wanted to speak with him. He didn't speak english very well either. He did, however, get the job done. Within half an hour, my documents were picked up by a courier and the cost was charged to my room. The courier cost was also much cheaper than the rate I could get on my own. read more

Great for business; however, nothing really special. The decor is adequate, but dated. Lounge is nice, club floors offer nothing special except complimentary bottles of water. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Internet is stable and reasonably fast (no issues). Overall it feels clean and well maintained. Will stay here again (booked for the next few weeks!). read more

Nice clean room, BUT several issues including 1. Very poor, inconsistent internet access, which made work very unproductive and frustrating. 2. Television intermittently lost sound and picture. 3. We called the concierge to ask the valet to have our car ready for 9am one morning (it was too tall for their garage, so was parked elsewhere) and the message was never passed along to the valet.
