When we bought our historical home, the inspector told us that metal roofs can last forever and we should be happy the home had one. Well, once the leaks started and we had a professional roofer evaluate the situation (taking photos, as he said, of "how to install a metal roof the wrong way"), we knew that our home and investment were at stake and we wanted to get the right people to help us. We went the whole nine yards, meeting with multiple roofers to get an assessment and project estimates, following up to get comparable project specs and costs, and finding out as much background on the companies as possible; without question Beyond Exteriors demonstrated their expertise and professionalism throughout and their reputation for quality work is well documented. Beyond Exteriors was uniquely willing, able, and eager to think of the entire project cohesively, through three types of roofing materials, moving roof penetrations, installing insulation, and coordinating gutters. We must've emailed with Andrew about every detail of the job, more than a dozen times in total, and to his great credit he patiently helped us learn about our own roof, best practices, and quality and budget considerations. Once the contract was signed, Linda and BeLinda kept us appraised of the status of getting City permits and architectural review, as well as the forecasting of our start date; they were always a pleasure to talk to. On site, George seamlessly managed the team, communicated the how's and why's of the work, and answered any questions we had. And did we have questions -- we're analytical people putting our home and money on the line, and George could not have been any more understanding, thoughtful, and helpful, always concerned about doing things right way and explaining that way to us. Of course, the crews deserve a lot of the thanks (special shout out to the amazing Jose who came by on a Sunday to confirm the roof was ready for a rain storm before the full project finished), and it's clear the focus on quality extends to every member of the Beyond Exteriors team. The last of the punch-list was finished today and I'm already on Yelp to provide them with an outstanding review. The roof and gutters look great and, most importantly, were installed well. And that's not just my opinion (and the opinion of several neighbors who have shared their compliments): an independent, certified roof inspector we hired praised the attention to detail, quality of materials, and workmanship. Dori's company is not inexpensive but it is worth every penny. Short review: hiring Construction Systems of Virginia is the hardest I've ever had to work for a…read morejob I was paying somebody else to do. Between missed self-imposed deadlines, poor workmanship, and major mistakes, completing the project to satisfaction took constant vigilance on my part and a general knowledge of construction techniques I felt lucky to have, but would've left someone less experienced with sometimes unsafe conditions in their home. Overall, the project was completed, but it took significant effort, time, and money on my part and, as a result, I wouldn't recommend anybody to hire Construction Systems of Virginia. The final straw for me to write this review is that one of the two patio doors I had installed by CSOVA started peeling on the door jamb after only a year or two. I reached out to CSOVA to ask for a receipt so I could file a warranty claim with the manufacturer. They had no receipt. I asked for a statement or some kind of paperwork that I could send to the manufacturer. They said they would send it but have never followed up despite asking for it multiple times. My project was large in scope and took five months. I hired CSOVA via Patrick Mullen to repair the back exterior wall of my townhouse after we discovered mold on the inside. It's difficult to be concise with all the things that went sideways on this project so here's my top ten things that went wrong: 1. They installed an outlet without an electrical box 2. They didn't initially replace the piece of sheathing that caused our mold problem until I noticed it 3. They boarded up our laundry and bathroom exhaust vents, until I pointed it out. 4. They painted over our fireplace bricks when installing the mantle which was not requested nor inside the scope of work. 5. They bought the wrong insulation materials twice even though the brand was specifically listed in the contract 6. Materials were ordered late and delayed parts of the project 7. Siding repairs were mismatched for a different style that our HOA explicitly didn't allow. I had sent CSOVA our HOA terms. 8. They reattached our downspouts without the proper drain adapter (as it was before) 9. The brand new patio door they installed still leaked water after multiple repair attempts. 10. The work crew, on several occasions, breached the mold containment zone that the mold remediation company said not to breach. This list doesn't even include the lack of diligence on finish details that would indicate a professional install: wall and outlet plates not removed prior to painting (and when I did it myself for the 2nd coat, they were reinstalled immediately after painting before it could dry); a gallon paint can I supplied mangled to the point it had to be discarded; three different colors of caulk on the exterior of my door frame; mismatched screws on the hinges of a brand new patio door; a missing bracket on one downspout but not the other; different trim pieces for the same type of exhaust vent literally side-by-side; and probably more that Ive forgotten or yet to discover. All said and done, I cannot recommend CSOVA. I leave two stars because I do appreciate that Patrick always had a good attitude, was open to addressing the issues, and accommodating with scheduling. In the end, the work simply was not of quality without tremendous personal effort and time.

The receptionist was very helpful, and we easily set up an appointment for Jim (the owner) to come out and take a look at my wind-damaged roof. There was some initial mishaps at the beginning. Basically Jim called me and told me that he needed to be at another job site because it was critical. I mean, I'm not a hard person to work with, so we just rescheduled. I did fly home from Denver early for that appointment.... but ok, let's try again. The next week, we meet up and Jim is pretty awesome. He walks me through the entire house, takes a few measurements, looks at the water spots on the ceilings, sketches some stuff, and tells me this would be easy. He's just gotta do something called an "EagleView" to get exact measurements of the roof. My insurance is kinda sketchy and only gave me money to cover 1/2 the roof, but I tell Jim that I'm gonna get the whole thing done anyway and pay outta pocket. He told me that he would lose money if he only did half a roof, and that all the interior work had very little margins. I totally agree with that, which is why I would do the full roof. I need to email my HOA to get approval before any work can be done, which is taking weeks. I keep Jim in the loop with periodic status update, and everything seems fine. My last update to Jim was that I would be out of the country for 2 weeks, and we would sync up after I get back. By now, it had been several months since I initially reported the issue. I email him back - no response, I call him - no response, I leave messages with the secretary to call me back - no response. I wait around for about 6 weeks for a response, but just never heard anything. I get that they're busy, but if they're not going to treat all customers with respect and courtesy, they will surely not get any of my business. I feel like they completely ignored me because my townhouse would not have been worth their time to re-roof. If that was the case, they could have easily just said so and not waste each other's time. I'm sorry to give a local business a poor review, but all businesses need to treat everyone fairly.

After confirming the crew would take the proper measures, I walked the job to find stain sprayed all over both sides of my house (front and back), as well as some areas where they clearly attempted to clean the splatters off with paint thinner or something, which completely removed the coloring from my new siding. After sending photos to the owner in an attempt to have them resolve the issue, he eventually told me it wasn't them that did it, and maybe someone in my house did?!?!
