When it comes to a good Zumba class, it's all about the instructor. They've got to have an…read moreinfectious energy that invites you to loosen up and get down, even if you're shy or believe yourself uncoordinated. Jessica Demers, owner of Body Karma in Clinton, definitely has that energy--she sings while she dances, she's encouraging, and she's clearly having a blast. Set to an upbeat soundtrack of pop, Latin tunes, Zumba tracks, and a healthy dose of holiday songs (I attended class just before Christmas), Jessica and I box-stepped, twirled, swayed, and cut a proverbial rug across the studio's wooden floor. What I loved most about her class was we didn't only dance--Jessica also incorporated strength-training intervals with hand weights and kettlebells to get our heart rate up and work our legs, glutes, abs, arms, and shoulders. By the end of the hour I was a sweaty mess, albeit a happy one--not only is Zumba one of the best exercises for cardio and coordination, it's also a great way to elevate your mood. Classes: Zumba, yoga, pilates. Schedule: Between 4 and 7 morning and evening classes Monday through Thursday, 3 morning classes on Friday and Saturday, and 2 morning classes on Sunday. Atmosphere: Quaint and homey, with new local art exhibited on the walls every three months. Price: $15 drop-in, 5 classes-$65, 10 classes-$110, 20 classes-$200. Extras: Private sessions, reiki, art receptions, kids classes, workshops, event and party bookings available.

Cute, unpretentious, convenient workout spot with yoga, Zumba, Pilates, and more…read more I love that Body Karma is conveniently located near the post office, breakfast joint, and my go to grocery store. I love their tech savy: they text, you sign your waver on an iPad, get an email receipt, they have phone charging stations in the cubbies. I love the unpretentious atmosphere with cute bright colors, local artists paintings for sale, and cute little mini lounge with bright pillows. Nice staff, nice teachers! Class: For me personally, the particular Yoga class I chose was too mellow and too spiritual. It was a Daoist form of Yoga which I have not experienced before, and there was a lot of focus on energy work, healing, and meridian lines. It was a very slow series of flowing movements. Although I tried to engage my muscles as much as possible in the poses, I never got to a point where my body felt warm. I tried to surrender to the class, maybe I need to relax! But, I'm totally OCD about symmetry and I kept drifting visually to all the textures and colors in the room, and found all the details too distracting. The room was on the colder side, and with the slow class I ended up feeling unpleasantly cold. Overall I suspect that this atmosphere with all the fun bright colors would be great during Zumba, or a more active training class, which they do offer. I'd also be more careful personally to understand that there are many different types of yoga, and understand exactly which kind of class I am attending! I'd try them again for a more active class

I did Bikram yoga for years and I had a feeling that it wasn't good for me. I'm hypermobile and prone to adrenal fatigue, but the instructors just kept pushing me through the strenuous poses and the heat. It was no surprise, really, when I I ended up with migraines and overstretch syndromes. Debi's style is a revelation. She pays attention to each and every student, and while her yoga definitely makes you feel like you've gotten a workout, it feels gentle and supportive instead of strenuous. She promotes the simplicity and inclusiveness of yoga culture, not the spandex and $300 yoga mat approach. Debi also offers Bach Flower Remedies. i think she's one on a only a handful of consultants in the state! I haven't found anyone else in her area. I'm definitely looking forward to learning more about Bach and Polarity Therapy, as well.

Gorgeous building. Views of the water, rough hewn beams! Very clean space with convenient restroom…read more I took a free class for New Year Day which perfectly coincided with my search for a new place to get healthy, and my husband has never tried Yoga! After filling out waivers we were given choice of loaner mats and props. Everything was clean and tidy. The group was very diverse in terms of having men, and people of various ages, body types and abilities. We were told this class would be focused more on energy and might not be indicative of a regular workout. The class lasted about an hour, with a very slow start and in general was a little subdued. Debi gave everyone individual energy work touch to start out and she also offers energy work as a service. The whole vibe and energy was a little on the serious side for me, and I don't believe in Reiki, I prefer less focus on chakras and a little more laughter! That being said I wonder if one of the "regular" workouts might be less touchy feely! :) Regardless of my personal spiritual slant, I'd highly recommend this place for the sheer beauty of looking at the water during practice! What a treat.

Why did I not get a phone call Beforehand? I got one after the fact. It is the middle of winter and with Every type of shampoos conditioners detanglers right at their fingertips they shave her down to the skin here and there. It looks like a child got ahold of the clippers. My poor baby is traumatized, freezing and I actually had to pay for this?!? Why didn't they just say no!?! I now have to buy her thick clothing and socks so she can stay warm-INSIDE OF MY HOUSE! Never ever ever will I trust this place. I'm so sad for her. This is beyond bad decision making whomever this person is should be fired.

His father took him into Petco today to get his gecko. Unfortunately the manager, Jack, who is supposed to be there to help, educate and make sure the creatures have a safe place to call home, was not helpful at all. Not sure whether he was having a bad day, but his comments to my son were unacceptable. Instead of educating my 12 YEAR OLD about how to hold and care for this gecko he was criticizing him and saying things like "there's no way I'm letting you take this" and "that was a train wreck" without an age appropriate explanation. Then I called to speak adult to adult and he pretended not to hear me. Jack, if you want the pet for yourself, buy it. If you are having an off day, take the day off. Please, please, please do not take it out on kids, that is unnecessary and inappropriate. there's no need to be rude to children, if you don't like your job, go get a different one. And if any administrator would like to have a conversation, I would be glad to do so.

Although we love her dearly, she was wreaking havoc in our house- the kids were scared of her, she was making a mess of the house and yard, and quite honestly we had zero control over her. She wouldn't stop barking at my husband, and I was covered in bruises from her jumping on me constantly. We were fed up and desperate, so we hired a trainer who came to our house- long story short, she charged us a lot of money, and we got nowhere. She was a positive reinforcement only trainer, and it basically just made our dog obsessed with performing for treats. In the absence of treats she did not follow any commands, and she'd break the command as soon as she was rewarded. I do think strictly positive reinforcement might work for some, but not all. We opted for a new solution, and I found Dogs by Doug online, with good reviews. Upon our consultation, I got the feeling he understood exactly what Bruna needed, and he recommended a four week board and train program. It's always a risk leaving your dog with a stranger for four weeks, it requires a lot of trust. I instantly felt like I could trust him, and you can tell he really cares for his client dogs and remembers all of them. He sacrifices a lot to constantly have dogs boarding in his home at overlapping times. Well, fast-forward four weeks, and Bruna is home. We instantly noticed a difference in her overall behavior. He told us he was going to teach her to relax, and that is literally what he did. She has been responsive to all of her commands, and at times when she breaks a command or does an undesired behavior, we now have the tools to deal with it. Walking her on a leash has become a great experience. She walks at our side at our pace, no longer dragging us down the sidewalk. I am beyond impressed with Doug's ability. You can tell he's a master of his craft, with lots of experience. He did his job with Bruna, and now it is our responsibility to keep up with the training. We are going to try our very best, and follow up later this summer! We HIGHLY recommend Doug. Our household is entirely different, at peace again and we got to keep our good girl (and our sanity). After a month of training with Doug, Lucas is now trained on all commands and the e-collar. Since Lucas has been back home, he listens very well and has a much better relationship with our other dogs! Most importantly, it was clear that he loved Doug. Doug was an excellent trainer for Lucas and our family. He is extremely patient with both dogs and humans and is incredibly knowledgeable about all things dogs! He loves what he does, and it shows. I am so grateful to have met Doug and highly recommend him for any behavior or training issues your dog may have.
