Left a review 7 days ago about the animal neglect/abuse and awful customer service I witnessed at the Petco in Clinton. The "owner" replied to my comment asking me to call the store, which I did, and spoke to a manager who said that the owner would be in touch. That has yet to happen. I also spoke with corporate, who claimed they would reach out to me in the next 24 hours, a week has gone by and nothing has been done. I went to the petco in Clinton and saw that the aquatic animals are being severely neglected and abused, and when I voiced my concerns to the cashier Jocelyn, she was incredibly rude and disrespectful to me, in front of her manager who permitted this behavior to take place on the sales floor. Both women admitted that they were aware of the dead animals left in the tanks and the animal neglect and did nothing, besides tell me that "they're fish they die everyday" mind you, these fish/animals had been dead for so long that they were rotting in the tanks, and the living animals were eating them out of starvation, risking illness and outbreaks. If you are an animal lover, don't go here. It is definitely not a family friendly location. With dead animals left to rot and decay in tanks, along with living animals being forced to live in the same tank. Deeply upsetting, clearly Petco holds no accountability for the animal cruelty nor for their neglectful and rude staff. The Clinton location should be shut down. read more

MY POOR PUP! I do not know who thought it was a good idea to take clippers and Just shave her down to nothing because she had matted spots in her fur. Why did I not get a phone call Beforehand? I got one after the fact. It is the middle of winter and with Every type of shampoos conditioners detanglers right at their fingertips they shave her down to the skin here and there. It looks like a child got ahold of the clippers. My poor baby is traumatized, freezing and I actually had to pay for this?!? Why didn't they just say no!?! I now have to buy her thick clothing and socks so she can stay warm-INSIDE OF MY HOUSE! Never ever ever will I trust this place. I'm so sad for her. This is beyond bad decision making whomever this person is should be fired. read more

My 12 year old wanted a gecko for his birthday, he loves animals, rescued an eastern painted turtle and has loved and cared for it since he was 10. His father took him into Petco today to get his gecko. Unfortunately the manager, Jack, who is supposed to be there to help, educate and make sure the creatures have a safe place to call home, was not helpful at all. Not sure whether he was having a bad day, but his comments to my son were unacceptable. Instead of educating my 12 YEAR OLD about how to hold and care for this gecko he was criticizing him and saying things like "there's no way I'm letting you take this" and "that was a train wreck" without an age appropriate explanation. Then I called to speak adult to adult and he pretended not to hear me. Jack, if you want the pet for yourself, buy it. If you are having an off day, take the day off. Please, please, please do not take it out on kids, that is unnecessary and inappropriate. there's no need to be rude to children, if you don't like your job, go get a different one. And if any administrator would like to have a conversation, I would be glad to do so. read more

For a chain pet store, this Petco is doing just fine. They have a nice selection of groomers, friendly faces behind the register, and plenty of our pups' food in stock. The layout of the store sometimes makes it hard for staff to see you're ready to checkout, but that usually only is an issue during off hours. This location is on the smaller side (maybe a little bigger than the Guilford store?) and feels a little dingier, but they have all I need so... read more

my dog has gone to the groomer every 2 months for the past 4 years and has looked amazing. I moved states so I tried petco. let me tell you... never again. they charged way more than they should have for a small dog. I paid 60 for 4 years. here it was 80 including tip which I just did because I'm a kind person. He looks awful. uneven everywhere. I won't drop the groomers name I want no hate going her way. but she needs a ton of training before she starts getting paid. I'm royally peeved read more

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They gave me the best suggestions when it came to puppy food, toys, and supplies. My puppy is living his best love, thanks to PETCO. In a few months, he will be training to become an ESA/service dog (for myself) read more

I just went in here to buy a couple of goldfish for my tank. The guy who was going to "help me," Jack, asked me, "well, what kind of tank are you planning on putting them in?" I looked at him quizzically, and he said, "I have to ask." I told him, "I've been doing this for 35 years." He got snarky and rude, snapping back at me, "Buddy. I asked you what kind of tank you are putting them in, and you go 'well, I've been doing this for 55 years,'"mocking me and acting like a spoiled teenager talking back to his teacher. I'm not his "buddy," and I take offense to someone much younger than me with a lot less experience in life and in fish keeping (I actually have fish that are older than him) talking down to me and patronizing me. I turned and walked out without wasting another breath on this person who has absolutely no business working in retail, and needs a lesson in respect. I strongly urge management to consider whether this is someone who should be working in your store. I've been coming to this location for years, and never had anything but positive experiences. This was my last visit. I refuse to pay to be abused by the salesperson in any store. read more

If I could give this place a zero star I would. I went into Petco wanting to purchase a fish. I asked one of the workers about some fish. I told him I was interested in buying a fish. He claims that you have to be 18 to buy a fish. He asked my age. I believe that he asked this question due to my height. I told him I was 17. He looked at me and said sorry no fish for you. Later my friends and I decided to check out the fish anyway. Half the betas were flipped over dead. How can an establishment not let me purchase a fish but let about 10 fish lay dead in their store. I see how this place treats their fish. All I wanted was a fish for my tank because my other fish need friends. The rest of the shopping trip was spent with my mind on how this place can let fish die in a container and do nothing about it. Not coming back here until I am 18 I guess. read more

The grooming service is Remarkably unprofessional. Agreed to bring our dog in three separate times. And they canceled on us each time -- twice within 15 minutes of the appointment. I wouldn't trust my dog to them. read more

The groomer lady hurt my cat with the razor (cut up his skin) and instead of acknowledging it and apologizing, she made it seem like my cat is crazy and wouldn't let her do her job. Later we went home and found out my poor kitty is hurt!!! Absolutely would NOT recommend this place. I'm still in rage even weeks after!!! read more

Horrible experience. I was called to come pick my dog up for trying to bite the groomer. She has been there many times and it is noted as a rescue she is sensative. My dog was half shaven and looked ridiculous. They could've cared less! Never ever will she go back there! Melissa Y read more

The store is fine but I do not recommend the groomer. They told me they would cut my dog's hair a certain length and then shaved it off.

I randomly decided to purchase two guinea pigs from this store in January 2014. Impulse buy, I was prepared to treat my babies like princesses. Rushing in 10 minutes before closing, the staff was BEYOND helpful and generous! They showed me everything I would need for a beginner such as myself, food, propper beding, viatamin C suppliments, ect. One of the guineas however had an upper respiratory infection. When I brought her in to Petco they suggested I leave both her for treatment and watch for two weeks. I took their advice and have no regrets. They have a vet they take all their animals to, and my guineas got checked out and put on some medication. The employees handled and did an amazing job taking care of my pigs! They even let me come in anytime to visit and play with them during the time they were being held and looked after. I was so pleased with my experience with the staff and how much they care about their animals, I won't go to any other PetCo. My babies have made a full recovery thanks to the wonderful staff. They really do care about the store and the animals they're trying to find a good home for! If I could give them 10 stars I would! read more

Petco I did a great job. Kirby looks terrific and all our neighbors are complimenting us on how good he looks.

It is 8:42 am. I have been sitting outside this Petco with my dogs for 45 minutes waiting for the manager to come open the store. Our appointment was for 8:00 and all of the employees were here on time. My experience with the groomers themselves has always been great. so Clinton Petco has a lot of good reviews...... That not only shocks me, but disturbs me as well. I visited this Petco and was greeted by an extremely demeaning male employee who had a horrendous attitude. He questioned my selection on fish and treated me with total disrespect. I was able to put this aside, as all of us have our bad days, but what happened one week later broke my heart. One by one, each of my precious fish that I have had for years all began to show evidence of white dots on their bodies. they had somehow contracted a disease. this disease manifests itself into each and every one of the fish in the tank and slowly kills them. I was sent over the edge. My fish were completely helpless to this disease and the fact that the fish I bought from this Petco was the carrier of this disease really irked me. I went back to get a return on my fish, but they claimed it was a water issue. I reassured him that my water had been spotless, but when dealing with hotheaded misogynists, nothing will get through to them. If there's one thing I can suggest, it is to NEVER buy fish from this Petco (or any others, for that matter) not only on account of their terrible customer service, but more importantly, because their diseased fish will spoil your tank and kill ALL of your fish. Save yourself and buy from local breeders or a local pet store (NOT a chain) read more

I brought my mini poodle to 4 other groomers before Petco opened in Clinton. He is terrified of all of groomers...probably because the groomer #1 cut his leg and it bled. Groomer #2 wouldn't take him because he was so scared. #3 wanted $80. #4 was very kind and he wasn't scared of her, but she buzzed him-even his ears. (You never cut the hair on a poodles ears. It has taken years to grow back.) Petco's groomers are compassionate and they know what they are doing and the price is reasonable. Call ahead several weeks. They are busy. read more

Do not have your dogs groomed here. Two of my dogs were suppose to take 3 1/2 hr so I was surprised when I was called in less than 2 hours. I had instructed the girl how to cut them specifically. When I got the pups my one dogs whole face was shaved and the other guy, who does not need to be cut but 2 long hairs trimmed with a scissor in front of his eyes, had two bald spots on his head where she shaved the long hairs. Spent no time grooming them properly at all and charged almost as much for a bath as a full grooming. Total rip off and my poor guys look offer, obviously do not have any training in grooming specific breeds, they all get the army buzz cut. read more

My dog Missy loves to go to Petco for grooming. As soon as I say we are going to see Ashley at Petco she gets super excited and can't wait to go. She runs around in circles until I put her collar on. She practically pulls me out of the house and into the car. read more

Went in to purchase three fish. One 1/4" albino pleco, and two zebra danio for a five gallon tank. When walking in I noticed half of their fish starving for oxygen near their filters for what little aeration they had in the tanks. Regardless I pushed on, I asked for help. I told the guy what I wanted and was immediately lectured about buying these three tiny fish. I didn't go there to get lectured on buying $5 worth of fish. I have a proper set up and don't need to be talked down to by some self righteous petsnob. This was the main reason I steer clear of pet stores these days. Too many snobs working for minimum wage judging your capabilities to care for three damn fish. I'll be sure to pass this hilarity on to my friends. Three fish. Really, guys, get a grip. read more
