Simone made the transition fun and educational, but also challenging. Through determination and consistency, I've been able to keep the pain and stiffness I was feeling (age, commute, sitting at desk) at bay. The classes have also helped me shed some pounds and gain strength and flexibility. Spyne Pilates is a local gem!

About 15 months ago, I visited the Active Fitness studio to talk to Christina & Drew and share my…read morehopes for our time training together. At the time, I had goal tunnel vision. The sole thing I cared about was rebuilding my atrophied leg, a symptom of extensive knee construction that had turned my quad, hamstring and calve into shadows of their original selves. I couldn't kneel, squat, lunge or even sit for prolonged periods of time without pain. Christina and Drew were thoughtful in their approach (which I now know is just how they operate). I think that they knew my goals would blossom as I felt more control over my knee recovery, and that's exactly what happened. Every week, we saw little gains and I found myself asking bigger questions, not just about my knee but about diet, mental health, routine, self-image, and mindfulness. Now, 15 months later, I feel physically strong. I feel disciplined and capable. I feel like I can trust myself to take good care of my body and brain. And most of all, I feel healthy even though 2020 has been an objectively difficult year for our world. In March, we shifted to Zoom because of coronavirus - I'm so grateful that I had their support during a time when mental and physical health was so important. They helped me transition to quarantine, work from home, home workouts, and a lot more cooking than I've ever done. If you need a team behind you, I highly recommend that you invest in yourself by working with Christina and Drew. Their training quality via Zoom is excellent and leaves me feeling strong, valued and connected!

When it comes to a good Zumba class, it's all about the instructor. They've got to have an…read moreinfectious energy that invites you to loosen up and get down, even if you're shy or believe yourself uncoordinated. Jessica Demers, owner of Body Karma in Clinton, definitely has that energy--she sings while she dances, she's encouraging, and she's clearly having a blast. Set to an upbeat soundtrack of pop, Latin tunes, Zumba tracks, and a healthy dose of holiday songs (I attended class just before Christmas), Jessica and I box-stepped, twirled, swayed, and cut a proverbial rug across the studio's wooden floor. What I loved most about her class was we didn't only dance--Jessica also incorporated strength-training intervals with hand weights and kettlebells to get our heart rate up and work our legs, glutes, abs, arms, and shoulders. By the end of the hour I was a sweaty mess, albeit a happy one--not only is Zumba one of the best exercises for cardio and coordination, it's also a great way to elevate your mood. Cute, unpretentious, convenient workout spot with yoga, Zumba, Pilates, and more…read more I love that Body Karma is conveniently located near the post office, breakfast joint, and my go to grocery store. I love their tech savy: they text, you sign your waver on an iPad, get an email receipt, they have phone charging stations in the cubbies. I love the unpretentious atmosphere with cute bright colors, local artists paintings for sale, and cute little mini lounge with bright pillows. Nice staff, nice teachers! Class: For me personally, the particular Yoga class I chose was too mellow and too spiritual. It was a Daoist form of Yoga which I have not experienced before, and there was a lot of focus on energy work, healing, and meridian lines. It was a very slow series of flowing movements. Although I tried to engage my muscles as much as possible in the poses, I never got to a point where my body felt warm. I tried to surrender to the class, maybe I need to relax! But, I'm totally OCD about symmetry and I kept drifting visually to all the textures and colors in the room, and found all the details too distracting. The room was on the colder side, and with the slow class I ended up feeling unpleasantly cold. Overall I suspect that this atmosphere with all the fun bright colors would be great during Zumba, or a more active training class, which they do offer. I'd also be more careful personally to understand that there are many different types of yoga, and understand exactly which kind of class I am attending! I'd try them again for a more active class

I've heard about Dayna's unique massage methods from some of my friends so I decided to give a chance, nothing was helping anyway. The massage was approximately 45 minutes long, during which Dayna had used SuVeda Myaxyl oil and Ksheerabala oil. I was so surprised that what multiple methods of treatment couldn't solve, a more holistic approach is what made the difference! I felt like a brand new person, my back pain was gone and I couldn't be more thankful. Definitely a 5* for me!

This review and rating are by Patty Hunter…read more Pure Pilates is the best form of exercise I have ever experienced. It actually makes your body feel wonderful. What a revelation! Getting in shape before Pilates was always tiring, painful and monotonous. Pilates with Marta is just the opposite. The studio is such an inviting space. It is filled with light, providing an attractive, peaceful place to workout. It is also utterly immaculate. All the equipment necessary for a full Pure Pilates workout is available. For me it is a perfect environment. The heart of the Pilates studio is the teacher, Marta Ostro. She was taught by Joseph Pilates' protege Romana and her daughter Sari in NYC. Pilates is her calling and she is an extraordinary instructor. Marta's knowledge of Pilates as well as her understanding of the human body and how it works is remarkable. She is a patient and compassionate teacher. She is determined to teach you the skills that are needed for a healthier, stronger life. Marta's love for her vocation makes each lesson a calming and enjoyable experience. She has a wonderful energy and positivity that are infused into all her lessons. I first came to Marta 15 years ago after bilateral hip replacements. I couldn't walk without a limp or discomfort and I had zero energy. I was miserable. After training with Marta for a relatively short time, the limp and discomfort were nonexistent and my energy was back. As I continue my training with Marta I see changes in my whole body. Muscles are more defined, both my upper and lower body are toned, and my energy level is high. Pilates is a complete body workout. Marta continues to fine tune my skills and take me deeper into the techniques of Pilates . When I finish each session with Marta I feel great both mentally and physically. Marta makes exercise fun. Pilates makes my body happy.
