The sushi, sashimi, and omakase are all outstanding. The quality is consistently exceptional. The restaurant itself is a nice, medium-sized, upscale sushi spot tucked into a strip mall. The service has always been attentive and friendly. One thing I really appreciate is that many of the specialty rolls come with dipping sauces that truly elevate the flavors and make the dishes stand out. Highly recommend. The absolute WORST service I have ever encountered at any restaurant. Busy Friday night, a few people waiting, but every table except one was taken. I assume that table was for a reservation as many people came in but were never seated there. We were asked if we had a reservation and said no. Mind you, nowhere on their website stated that a reservation was ever even recommended, much less required. We were told the wait wouldn't be too long so we agreed to hang out. Myself, my wife, and two other people all waiting in line. Another family barged in front of the whole queue and sat on the bench up front immediately after two patrons, who were there when we got there, were seated. They sat on the bench and were there for maybe 2 minutes before they were seated. The guy up front skipped over us and sat them instead. Great. That was super nice of them. Another employee caught this error and apologized to us, stated we would be next. We agree to keep waiting. About 10 minutes pass and more people keep showing up and waiting. One couple show up and hang out at the front ahead of the queue. I already knew what was going to happen. Sure enough, as soon as a table was cleared down, they were immediately sat down ahead of us, AGAIN. I stormed out from anger and frustration at that point. My wife was stopped by an employee and was told that they had a reservation and they "promised" we were next. Too little too late at that point. If they had a reservation, why were they not sat at that booth that was empty the entire night?! Who was that booth reserved for?? Some A-list actor?? Needless to say, we won't ever be going back. I assume the food is really good but I'll never know. Please be aware that if you decide to go on a super busy night, call and make a reservation but even then, they will probably still sit other people in whatever order they choose. read more

We came back for an evening meal. We anticipated a crowd on a Saturday night and did make a reservation. The food came out quickly and in abundance. We liked the halibut carpaccio, loved the shiso scallop on a little pancake, crispy rice appetizer with spicy tuna was fine, loved the tiger roll. Our only disappointment was the salmon. It didn't seem to be quite sushi grade. It was somewhat chewy and not the buttery type that we love. Service was efficient. Another great lunch here today. Spicy edamame is a fantastic way to start the meal. I went with my three reliables...the Rocky Mountain, Caterpillar, and New York. Disappointed to see the New York isn't on the menu anymore, I was happy to learn they'll still make it if you write it in the space provided. Score! Our party of 18 came here last night for a birthday dinner. The entire staff from making the reservation to getting seated to receiving incredibly friendly and prompt service was amazing. Although they didn't have uni or hot sake, we still had a blast. My family had a great time and the quality of the sushi of this place is why we wanted to bring the whole family! They were able to put all the tables together to fit all 18 of us and we couldn't be more appreciative for that! Best sushi, but..... we have eaten here often. Top notch sushi, nigiri, etc. Always very fresh, delicious. The only problem is in that small space the waitstaff, who are very friendly and knowledgeable, stand in a row and watch you. The very second you pick up your last piece of sushi they grab the plate away. It ruins ambiance and conversation. Unless the table is too full, I would prefer they not hover over you and grab plates so quickly. My husband was eating the last piece of a roll and they grabbed the plate before he could lay down the tail of the shrimp. We decided to stop by here for lunch on a weekend on the way to ikea. The restaurant is conveniently located near some great shops like total wine, home goods, Christy's sports, petsmart, etc. It was fairly busy but we were able to be seated right away. We ordered a spicy salmon roll, a few nigiri (chutoro, seared tuna), salmon carpaccio, miso soup, and another roll (spicy tuna on top, salmon inside). Everything was incredibly fresh! We enjoyed the nigiri's the most (although pricey so we couldn't order too many). Service was also excellent. We will be back! read more

As a medical device professional, I travel to different cities across Colorado every day and if I have time I make it a point to try sushi spots wherever I go--and this one truly stood out. The quality of fish is above average but here are my issues: I ask for no sear up front - they sear anyway. I ask for the items to come (at the bar) when they are ready but they still pile everything on one plate and put it in front of me all at the same time. The nori becomes wet and chewy. I ask for no garlic and still get carlic sauce on some of the fish. There is a HUGE language barrier. I speak some Japanese but unfortunately everyone at this place is Chinese. Finally, look at the pictures comparing blue fin maguro sashimi from most LA area sushi bars vs. Asaka who only gives you 2 pieces. Same price. When the owner Kevin is there, everything is perfect. But when he is not, no one cares what you want. Finally the picture below is the rudest sushi chef I've encountered. No need to go into details. Pains me to say this, but not quite as good as they used to be. Still amongst the best in Denver, but it is no longer the absolute best by a wide margin, the way it used to be. When chef owner was personally making the sushi, it is great. However, as Asaka has become increasingly popular, they needed more sushi chefs to keep up. These sushi chefs never seem to stick around for very long. Some were terrible and some were great. Unfortunately, the current one has been around for several weeks, is very mediocre, and not really improving. The nigiri is not prepared well, and the fish seem to be cut clumsily. The nigiri now does not look anything like the original pictures I posted 2 years ago. Throughout the last couple years, there have been very talented sushi chefs that worked there, but it's a shame that it was never for more than a couple months. Another thing that makes me sad is their premium omakase. It used to be all fish, with maybe 1 or 2 non-fish items. And it used to also be a good mix of high quality fatty and lean and interesting fishes. Now premium omakase has wagyu beef, foie gras, otoro, salmon belly, and uni spoon every single time. I don't mind repeating items. What my problem is, it's just fat, fat, and more fat. Maybe wagyu in an omakase a couple times a year is fine, or foie gras a couple times a year as a surprise (never at same time as wagyu) would be okay. But every time is silly and unbalanced. Wagyu + foie gras in a single omakase is already just too much fat. Absolute maximum for super fatty items in an omakase should be limited to maybe 3 items. If someone wants an entire meal of fat, fat, and more fat, then let them order it off the menu. If chef's choice happens to be fat, fat, and more fat, then count me out. I don't think I ordered premium omakase, which used to be my favorite thing to order, in the last several weeks. And finally, the straw that broke the camel's back for me. We asked how the uni was in our latest visit, the mediocre chef said it was good. It was not really good. When chef owner tells me about the uni, he used to give me an honest and accurate assessment. The current sushi chef just says everything is good. I can't rely on them for consistently best uni anymore. I feel bad that I haven't raised these concerns earlier. I have a lot of friends who feel the same way as me, but we just don't put in the effort to voice opinions. Instead, we simply haven't been coming here as often for nigiri. read more

This used to be our to-go neighborhood sushi place but today has been the worst experience - we won't be back. The kitchen was severely delayed: my daughter's udon took 40 minutes and my husband's teriyaki steak took 50 (and was well-done instead of medium rare, yikes). I got my 7-piece sushi around 20 minutes in (before the seaweed salad which we had to remind the waitress over 3 times) and had to awkwardly eat piece by piece while they watched me eat. Great family bonding time, am I right? Everyone takes turns eating while everyone else watches Adding insult to injury, the 2 tables next to us who arrived later all received their food before us. When we asked the waitress to check in on our food, she said, "this isn't my problem" and later tried to gaslight us on the amount of time we waited. When I pushed back, she spent the rest of the time hiding from us while her colleague apologized on her behalf. Talk about an unprofessional and disappointing service! As a Certified Sushi Addict, I have been woefully disappointed in any sushi ever since we moved from Southern California (near the Pacific) to Missouri (nowhere near any ocean). We are a road trip now and on our way back home to Missouri. We saw the "sushi" sign and debated between steak at Longhorn right next door or sushi at Asaka. Both my husband and I are BLOWN AWAY with the portion size, taste and service. At least 4 servers brought us food. And the food? Out. Of. This. World. I would have taken a picture but every drop and every morsel was eaten before I remembered to take one. (I hate pictures of half eaten food and although ours is all gone ... still ... Pictures of an empty plate? Ah, no.) My husband particularly likes the ratio of rice to nigiri/fish. "Tiny bit of rice to huge pieces of fish and the wasabi was great, NOT paste," he continued. When I did a to-go at this place 6 months or so ago, I believe I gave it a 4-star review. Today, I am upping the rating by one more star so this place now has a 5-star review from me. And this is based on the quality of (nigiri) sushi we ordered today. Service is not necessarily remarkable although it's not bad either. At the peak dinner time of 6:30pm on Memorial Day in 2024, the restaurant was still getting a gradual increase in foot traffic. I'd say that it was 1/3 of its capacity when we arrived. Although we got our Agedashi Tofu and Spicy Scallops Roll fairly quickly, the couple who came in after us got most of their items before we got the rest of our order. I didn't say anything to our waitress but was wondering why their order was prioritized. It ended up being worth the wait. The four two-piece nigiris - when they finally arrived - were beautifully placed on a rectangular plate. And it was following by the two-piece Seared Tuna Nigiri by themselves in a smaller square plate. They appeared way more intricate than the rolls; I got the impression that the sushi chef had to ensure the perfect presentation of them (hence they took longer and that was why the wait?? Maybe...) The size of the pieces wasn't stingy in any way; the fish portion as well as the rice portion was more than decent. For a sushi piece size as decent as Asaka makes and serves, you might think that it would be ideal to eat each piece in two bites and yet as customary or etiquette in sushi eating, you are supposed to eat the whole piece in a singular bite. The fish (each kind) truly melted in our mouths. The texture can be described as "silky" with absolutely no chewiness. Did the restaurant get lucky by getting the best catch of the day for every single kind of fish? That would simply be too coincidental. Or after the fish arrived at the restaurant, the chefs simply used the best technique to preserve the freshness of them. Sushi making is a form of art in my opinion. My sincere accolades go to all the sushi chefs that had gone through rigorous "shugyo". Compared to other top dog sushi restaurants in Denver, this Asaka Sushi may look like no more than the average looking sushi restaurant on the outside. It's not necessarily a fancy restaurant in any way and yet in my opinion this is one of the biggest contenders to other Japanese restaurants when it comes to the quality. And this place is definitely more reasonable than the other over the top ones. Why drive more and pay more to dine at other more fancy places even though a great restaurant is within your neighborhood is my thought process. We will continue to dine at Asaka because what truly matters is nothing but the quality. read more

The uchi spoon was adventurous, with salmon roe, fatty tuna, and a fresh quail egg. Each nigiri is unique, seasoned and topped with different flavors including fresh Wasabi. They get busy on the weekends and don't take reservations, so plan accordingly. The restaurant has a family feel and friendly service. Last night we got Asaka for takeout and it was pretty good! It was our first time trying it and we ordered the gyoza and spicy garlic edimame to start. The edimame was delicious and true to its name- it was spicy! The gyoza was okay.... I think it could've used more flavor. Then for rolls, we ordered the I-25 roll, Godzilla roll, and the hot night roll. I think my favorite was either the hot night or the godzilla. I was most excited about the I-25 but it ended up being my least favorite. All in all, it was pretty good for sushi takeout and pretty good value too. read more

We were so hungry we couldn't even snap a picture! We stopped by Asaka because we had some errands to run in the area and it had a fairly high rating. They weren't super busy for 8 PM on Friday and our party of 3 was sat immediately. The first thing we loved immediately was the very calm vibe - especially for our easily overstimulated kiddo. The moment we sat down, we were given our water and they even considered the fact our kiddo didn't know how to use chopsticks and gave her a set of cheaters.
