Don't let Mona color ur hair! It's been a very long past few months with all the covid craziness so I bleached my hair at home and went silver. 2 moths later I had roots I needed fixed and luckily salons had reopened so I could have it done professionally. Started looking and found this place. Made an appointment with Mona. She did not do what I wanted. I needed up with brassy blond hair, which after a few minutes of googling I found it was cuz the hair hadn't been bleached enough. We agreed I'd come back in a couple days to get it corrected. I was looking forward to this SOOO much and was terribly disappointed. It's like she had no idea what she was doing. She used a protein filler which I found out is for when u have bleached hair and want to go dark (not at all what I wanted). She gave me a haircut and the first time and it was an ok cut but not worth what she charged for it. Leave it to me to migrate clear across the country from Hoboken, NJ and find a hair stylist who moved just a few short weeks before me from Jersey City. So I was at a boozy brunch the other day and the bartender had the best hair. I asked him where he got it done and he led me to Artkiteks. Upon reviewing Yelp, I decided I had to book with Esmerelda (Em). First of all, every single person in the salon is friendly and makes you feel extremely comfortable (the complimentary wine also really helps with this - thanks guys!). Secondly, I showed up with medium length hair that was heavily dyed and was almost black (with red tones mixed in as well), and I asked Em to just go wild. I'm typically not the best at knowing or describing what I want, and she was amazing with my lack of hair knowledge and helped to design a fantastic color and style. Pics attached, but let me talk you through how Em is a beautiful beautiful hair wizard. First, she gave me the most flattering, messy bob that is edgy and pretty and all the things all at once. Then she lightened my black hair to a REALLY light blonde in one day annnnd it still feels like hair. Like, no straw spaghetti nonsense... None at all. I was floored. THEN she put together this awesome combo of light and dark purples that makes me look like a stunning human unicorn. AND THEN she gave me a rockin undercut (which we're gonna expand upon next time I'm there). If you're looking for a great hair colorist...then you should definitely come here and book your appointment with Rosie! I've been trying to get the grandma silver grey hair for a minute and have gone to 2 other hair stylist before her. Neither got the color right and the last person I went to, my hair slowly faded to greenish of blonde blue and slowly to a greenish blonde. I definitely needed my hair color corrected! Got a haircut from Kai and I loved it!! I have pretty thick wavy hair and was worried about getting it cut short, as in the past, more inexperienced hairstylists have left my hair looking very poofy and unattractive. I told Kai exactly what I wanted, and she cut it perfectly! :) I really appreciate the cafe/precision she took in cutting my hair, putting it in layers, thinning it out, etc. Price is $75 for a haircut - it might seem like a lot, but is standard compared to other salons in the area. This is a long time coming and I've waited until now to write a review because I believe after 2 years my stylist is deserving of such a review. I have been getting my hair bleached from a level 2 (dark brown) to bleach blonde/platinum for about 2 years now and I could not be happier with my hair and my stylist Danny (Danielle Schumacher). Meeting Danny was by chance, I was just beginning my transformation from dark brown to platinum when my original stylist was busy and I was in major need of fixing my over grown roots. Now let me tell you, a little about my hair: I was box dying my hair regularly for the past 7 years. I used L'oreal, Garnier and Clarol to go from light to dark, dark to light, to red, black, brown and light brown, over and over again. I loved my hair and I liked changing the color. Then I decided to go blonde. I really wanted to go platinum but after photoshopping my face on a few platinum hair styles I got scared and I thought the color just wouldn't go with my skin tone. So I settled with trying out blonde. Wow did I not know what this meant. Because I had dyed my hair so many different colors my hair needed to be stripped of all the pigments. To begin my transformation from brown to blonde I had to go from dark brown to brown with highlights, to brown red, to brown orange, to orange, to orange caramel to caramel to straw blonde to finally platinum. Trust me, this is not for the faint of heart. I think my transformation took longer because of all the damage I had done to my hair and because I was reluctant to cut my hair. Luckily, I met Danny when I was in the early stages of this transformation and I am lucky to have met her. She took me from orange to platinum and I am so glad I went all the way to platinum because I really love the color. Let me tell you about Danny: Danny is easy to talk to and has been so patient through all my celebrity hair photos I have brought to her. She is very sweet and always asks if I need a beverage and if I am comfortable. She listens to what you want and she will tell you if it's doable and what to expect. She takes care of your hair and will not color/bleach your hair if she feels it will damage it. I enjoy her head massages when she washes my hair and the salon uses the best smelling shampoos. She has never pushed product on me. She has never made me feel rushed or pushed me to do something different than what I wanted. Danny has maintained my platinum hair for two years with literally no breakage and no split ends. I don't need to get a haircut every time I see her which is nice because I want long platinum hair. She is very good at making sure I don't have the dreaded bleach rings. She has even dyed my hair pastel pink for fun! Of course, I strictly follow her instructions on how to care for my platinum hair at home: shampoo 1 or 2 times a week max, use quality sulphate-free shampoos, use conditioner every time I wash my hair and use a mask every week. I blow dry twice max a week and I don't go to bed with wet hair. I keep my touch up appointments 4-6 weeks apart. You pay good money to get the color of your dreams you should take care of your hair right? What I think about the salon: Of course, every time you go to a new salon you always don't know what to expect. Here the people are casual, friendly and happy. I have seen the owner there every time I have gone. I watch the other stylists and they all look like they love what they do. The salon offers complimentary drinks (coffee, water, tea, wine, etc) and wifi. They have plenty of magazines and the receptionist is very accommodating. The salon is kept tidy and smells clean. Chairs are comfortable. The only thing I wish is that they had more parking. The salon is tucked away in a corner next to a cross-fit gym and they have 6 or 7 parking spaces so most of the time I park on the street. Come a little early so you can have time to find a parking spot. I don't like to be late for my appointments. Because I know it's hard to find a good stylist now-a-days (salons are everywhere) I am posting her instagram. It's only smart to look at a stylists work to see if they are a right fit for you. @schatzi_hair.mua I live in downtown HB but I drive to Costa Mesa to get my hair done by her. I just went to this salon for the first time last Wednesday. I saw Jeff, the owner, after being recommended to him by numerous people. WOW. This is the best my hair has ever been done. I did partial highlights and cut off about 3 inches. Jeff is incredible at color, he does his foil in this very unique way that makes so much sense and is so quick with his cuts. I initially went to Artkiteks based off a recommendation from a good friend. ( I had moved, so drive to former stylist would be hours and Artkiteks came highly recommended). First visit was ok. I had a conversation about what I wanted, stylist was very friendly (of course I mentioned my friend that referred me), but I was only in for a basic cut, no color or extreme styling, etc. Fine. After that, the next visits went down hill. The second visit, I tried to explain that the first time didn't get my cut quite to what I asked for so tried to be more specific because my hair type needed a bit of a different approach. I got some push back because they said they knew better, but eventually I thought we were on the same page. The stylist did not have an assistant so only cut my hair when wet (a good cut needs to be cut wet, then cleaned up once dry, of course). After the wet-only cut, the stylist half-dried my hair and tried to convince me that leaving it partially wet would be great for me to see how easy it would be to maintain. Not a great second visit, but I get a schedule is tight when you're assistant can't make it last minute. The next visit proved that the stylist was not willing to listen to my concerns when I voiced that the first two times I saw them, my cut wasn't what I asked for. I tried to again tell them that's because my hair needs a slight difference to the normal method....got push back and no change to the cut. Also tried to do some pretty simple color the third visit and got scoffed at saying it wasn't possible. (Note: At first visit, Artkiteks thought I had natural sunbleaching to my hair, but it was just highlights grown out sixth months so not sure about that expertise, haha) Maybe since I wasn't in every month spending a bunch of money on cut and color, I just wasn't worth the time in their chair it took to hear me out. Willing to pay for a great experience and service, even if I'm doing basic service, but this wasn't it. No one was ever rude in any way, but I gave it several chances and it wasn't worth the cost of feeling disappointed when I've paid a lot for a service that left me wanting to wear my hair up in a bun/pony every day. read more

I was able to find this place the morning of, which was a Sunday, and the receptionist scheduled me in for two hours later at noon. The young stylist I had, whose name I didn't take down...Madeliene?...was great. She was friendly and most of all, her passion for hair was evident! The style price left me with sticker shock (~$80) but that's probably a typical amount for a hip hair studio like this. Jeff Stump has been an extremely reliable and supportive male presence in my life over the past 4 years. Our relationship has been built on a solid foundation of trust, based entirely on the fact that my hair always looks FREAKING AMAZING when I walk out of his salon. Jeff provides strong professional guidance while still honoring your wishes for your hair. He recommended that I grow my hair long again and a year and a half later I am incredibly glad I did. He also all but refused to lighten it to a true blond, and instead I ended up darkening the whole thing. So now I look like a Kardashian. Showed up for an 8am appointment with Esmeralda. She seems very sweet but her consultation with me was poor. She asked me what I wanted and I showed her a picture. Blonde on top with teal , blue, and purple woven underneath. I've been doing a very similar thing with my normal hairstylist for years. She said ok and started to prep highlights for me. She asked me if I wanted a full or partial highlight and I said -what do you recommend? She said I had dark roots but it was up to me. Recommendations are something she didn't seem super comfortable with so I got the full. This is where things went super south for me. I want to take a minute to state that maybe this place just wasn't my style. It seems like a very upscale salon but they didn't even have bottled water. Just lukewarm tap water in a glass. Magazines were over a month old, and it was sooooo cold in there. I don't think I've ever been so uncomfortable in a salon. So, maybe the more hip vibe just isn't for me. When I come to a salon I want to be pampered and have a nice experience. After we agreed on the highlights and Esmeralda put them in she took another client. Like I said maybe this just wasn't for me. I sat under the dryer for OVER 50 minutes. Then after her assistant washed my hair and applied toner they left my head cold in the sink for another 15 - 20 mins while she cut another guys hair while I sat and waited, freezing. All in all you guys...*3* hours for a set of highlights. 3. Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but I have never had it take that long before. And you know I could probably tolerate that, but then after three hours she says she wants to look at the photo again. And then tells me that the teal won't work. It will end up green. And that she thinks doing colors like this, that they will just bleed! Lady!!!!! Why didn't you tell me any of this three hours ago?????? Now you can't do what I want and I've been stuck here freezing? She says she thinks she can do two of the colors and then looks at me like I'm supposed to tell her the solution. So I say "just do whatever you can, I guess". Because at this point I'm super pissed. Then she leaves for 15 minutes and I just sit there with no one checking on me. No update on when she'll back. So, I grab her assistant who at this point has had twice the interaction with me than my actual hairdresser and tell her I want to go. Esmeralda comes out with colors but I'm too unhappy to stay. I've never been to a salon where it takes a consultant three hours to talk to you about the fact that they can't do what you want. I have seen photos of Esmeralda's work and clearly she is a talent colorist, but if you go to this salon have at least five to six hours for a color, don't expect to be their main priority since they double book their appointments, and make sure your consultation is extremely thorough before you commit. read more

Jason has been my stylist for over 7 years now and has never let me down. I actually got a cut done just a few days ago and just this morning all my coworkers were commenting on the hair. He's a really personable, down-to-earth dude who's great at what he does, so ask for Jason next time one of you guys want to get a good lookin' haircut. As for the place, this is by far the coolest location I've had my hair cut yet. Like I said, I've been going to Jason for a long time so I've had my hair cut at 3 of his previous locations but this one definitely has the best feel. Being on the second floor of their tucked-away building, they have a really nice spot that takes in the sunny So Cal weather. Overall, it's a great vibe. read more

Had my hair beautifullly colored by Dannie. She is so friendly and thoughtful, easily addressed my scalp sensitivity by using a very gentle product that still covered my greys. Gunnar has been cutting my hair for 3 years now, and I can't talk higher on the quality of the cut - a high-fade, scissor-over-comb. Our session always begins with a mint/lavender shampoo wash and condition, followed by a short massage and its off to the races. At sit down, Gunnar takes his time to ask me what cut I prefer, even though the cut hasn't changed in 3 years, he makes certain to walk through the cut. At the same time, he updates me on what's popular, which was i like because I do appreciate keeping up with the youth. As a financial advisor, i handle an array of clients monies, it's imperative to me and my clients that I appear neat and clean, the cut i receive appears very professional and I am complimented on it often. A friend of mine referred me to Liz, she's on the second floor of the salon. I work in a similar business so I'm extremely picky about who I will let do my hair. I like that Liz is a blonde, I feel like she "gets" what I'm going for. She listened to my needs and how and what I do to my hair each day, how it works with my lifestyle. I have to pull my hair back everyday for my work and I also don't want to have to blow dry everyday...and still look great!!! She listened closely and then executed!!! She gave me a lot of what I wanted infused with her expertise! I've been to quite a few hairdressers in my life and let me tell you this is an expert. She meticulously and quickly placed foils throughout my head applying several colors. She is very precise!! She also applied a base color and I was able to sit for just an additional 20 minutes to process, which flew by. Liz also washed my hair herself, applied a toner and a couple great conditioners! (BTW, she has pretty magic hands!!!) My hair color came out stunningly beautiful. Her cut is also amazing!!! It was a simple cut that I wanted but it lays beautifully and works well with my face. The blow dry she gave me lasted four days with me just adding a little touch up on the subsequent days! It even held up during a boat trip I took the third day!!! I really like this salon, it's clean and simple! It's not loud and everyone that works there is doing very good work. I was able to observe the guy, James, who works next to her and he did two amazing men's cuts while I was sitting there. Liz is extremely booked up, I suggest getting on her books and make sure to re-book before you leave. She took me right on time and everyone was professional on the staff. I'm so happy I found my "person" for my hair and I'm looking forward to a long relationship!! I can't say enough good things!!! read more

Pretty disappointed with my hair. Before I came in for my app I spoke with my stylist danielle and let her know what I was looking for which was a color balayage, I let her know the horrible experiences I've gone through from bleach damage to brassy broken hair. After a couple years of Just taking care of my hair I decided I wanted something new but was just terrified to give my hair to just anyone so I had friends recommendations and I. Picked Danielle since she did tell me she's a "blonde specialist" and she did say she will work with my budget and if I get more services I get more of a discount and charged me $150 . Anyways I finally made my app to go and get it done (I live in corona) and explained more what I wanted which was a nice blue purple color and finally made the decision, she saw that I have a lot of hair and said that it's $300 and she's hourly... something that she never told me through text. so then I asked just for a simple balayage and she said she can do that and she will charge me $150.... I agreed and we proceeded.... when she was done she said she will blow dry it but not style it..... I was bothered but let it slide and when she dried it,? It looked more like highlights... but i thought maybe that's what the balayage looks like..... then when I went home my mom saw that I have orange brassy hair and asked Danielle to tone it and said she was going to charge me $20 more!! After she said that she will do it if needed..... so anyways we were texting back and forth and finally she said she will not charge me this time...... I went to several stylist to make sure this is a balayage and they all said they are highlights so I let Danielle know and her response was " I did that to make your balayage last longer" at this point I got over it and just decided not to do anything because if she didn't do it correctly the first time she won't do it the 2nd time..... I work in the beauty industry and if I had a pissed off patient I would def make it better instead of making excuses or charging extra... or I would even suggest to give them there money back. Update on my last review: The owner of the business (Jeff) contacted me to set up another appointment to fix my hair. He was very attentive and knowledgeable, talking through what he was doing when he was cutting my hair and why. He gave me the body in my curly hair that I wanted and I love my new cut! It really shows the integrity of a business when the owner reaches out to do what it takes to make sure that each customer leaves satisfied with the services they receive. I found this place on Yelp and decided to pay visit after reading reviews. I am absolutely in love with my hair! Kat did an amazing job !! I had gone to get my hair done on a Saturday and the girl totally ruined my hair and the following day (Sunday) I found Artkiteks and went to Kat to fixed the orange color I had. And the following Wednesday I went in to get my hair done the way I wanted it and she got it EXACTLY how I envisioned it....she saved my life! LOL I will forever be a client for as long as she's there!!! I totally recommend this place. read more
