This teacher was amazing with my grandbunniess!
    Claire R.

I made the reservations online for my 2 grandsons to paint a sloth for their Mom's Christmas gift. The price was quite reasonable. The teacher was amazing with the boys (ages 7 & 10). The classroom was inspirational. The boys had so much fun! The teacher explained every step well, and showed each step as she went along, often stopping to help the youngest. The location was easy to find, although parking is on the street. We had a short walk. End results: we had 2 wonderful gifts for my daughter and the boys can't wait to do this again!

    Our finished products!

This crafty type of experience is definitely up my alley even if it's not so for my BF, lol. It was easy enough to schedule and they were very accommodating with the time slots. Upon getting there though, it wasn't as organized or streamlined as I was expecting. The space is very small, cramped and low ceilinged. We went on a Sunday and it was packed with people. I had to ask about the class and wait an extra 6ish min for an instructor even though we arrived at the exact time of our registered class. I did enjoy the class but felt it was more of a demo, then you're on your own instead of step-by-step. Our instructor would jump in if you really needed help. For example, another worker just ended up finishing his bowl but he gave a brave start. It was fun and relaxing choosing paints and then painting but just wish there was more inspo provided or guidance. We were just left to our own devices but wish there could've been templates, example pictures or even stencils to help out less artistically inclined (I'm not speaking of myself, of course, but for kids or anyone who who could use some extra help). Checking out turned out to be an ordeal, and they should majorly redo this process to make it faster and more streamlined. My BF and I waited for more than 15min behind only one other person trying to pay. We also had our voucher gift printed out so not sure why it took the worker about 15min to enter it into the tablet and make it so awkward and complicated. The class came up to about $80 for the 2 of us so it's no chump change and is more expensive than some of the chains like Clayground, etc. They have a tip jar and ask for tips which feels in bad taste since there was virtually no service or even guidance besides the class portion. I can't imagine paying $40 for a clay piece here, painting and designing it myself, grabbing my own supplies, returning supplies, washing brushes, then paying a tip on top of that. One more annoying thing is that the worker told me to check their instagram page to see our pieces get pictured and I diligently reviewed every single post for the entire month and our pieces were never shown... The location is also pretty inconvenient from me. I would recommend a chain/franchised place with cleaner, less clutter, more space and better facilities.

The instructor was patient and helpful, which made the whole process feel really approachable--even for first-timers. A fun surprise was that we got to paint our pieces after they fired them! They moved the process along pretty quickly, and we got to choose our own colors and painting techniques, which made the whole experience feel really personalized. We were told we could pick up our finished pieces in about a week. They also offer other creative options like just painting pre-made pieces or working with glass. There were a variety of painting styles and tools available, and the overall vibe was very welcoming and creative. The service was friendly and accommodating. The only downside was that I noticed a girl who seemed to be in training, and the manager didn't treat her very kindly--there were moments that felt unnecessarily harsh and condescending, which was a little uncomfortable to witness. Overall though, it's a charming studio with a lot to offer for both beginners and returning visitors. I'd definitely go back!

They offer visual and creative arts classes for people of all ages and skill levels. Shortly after learning about Art House I signed up for a six week pottery on the wheel class. I had never used a pottery wheel before, and I really enjoyed it (even though I'm not too great at it). The instructor, Billy Ritter, was fantastic. Really helpful, friendly and laid back. He is also very diplomatic with his comments on our less than perfect creations throughout the weeks. I took the class solo but was really happy with the group setting and made friends with the other people in the class. I also attended a glass mosaic class that was a good time. Art House offers a large variety of classes for adults, kids and kids with family members, and open studio time for ceramics as well. These would make excellent gifts! The classes are also great if you're looking to do something on your own or with friends. Art House offers summer programs for kids, birthday parties, etc. AH has a large variety of things to offer and they change/update them every few months. AH currently offers monthly "Sippin' in the Studio" single night classes in which they provide a few glasses of vino to get your creativity flowing and range from glass mosaics to jewelry making. I was taking a yoga class at nearby Puma Yoga when I randomly noticed Lakewood Art Studios and decided to wander in. What a pleasant, pleasant surprise. Lakewood Art Studios is an artist collective, education and event space in Lakewood. I'm spitballing from memory, but they feature maybe 30+ local artists. Think the most unique pieces of jewelry, art, greeting cards, ceramics and other odds and ends thoughtfully curated in a gallery. You constantly have things to explore and no two things are the same. For me, buying handmade local artisan goods is my weak spot. Seriously, take all my money now. They also offer a variety of classes ranging from photography to portrait drawing and a comic book club, all held in the small classrooms in the back of the shop. This is a pretty special place. I was in a bit of a rush when I visited, but I am already planning to go back out to Lakewood to specially spend more time in Lakewood Art Studios appreciating all the one-of-a-kind pieces. I'll come here to discover new artists for my collection or buy stunning, original gifts for friends!

I opted to make a flower, while my daughter planned to create a flower-shaped ring holder as a surprise gift for her sister, who loves rings. Those were the options given to us by the instructor. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the long wait--20 days--for our pieces to arrive, especially since we paid $25 for shipping. I had to email the owner to remind her to send them out. She was apologetic, and the pieces eventually arrived. However, to our dismay, my daughter's piece turned out to be just a flower, a beautiful flower, but not the ring holder she asked to make with the guidance of her instructor. The instructor was with her every step and guided her through the entire process, but seemed to forget the goal of making it into a ring holder which was an option given to us. I reached out to the owner to explain the situation, but there was no acknowledgment of the mistake or any indication of how it might be corrected. Overall, we were left disappointed.

To explain what Palladian Palette is, here is an excerpt from the homepage of their website:…read more "Palladian Palette is a BYOB painting bar. Come on in, open your drink, and sit down in front of a canvas -- simple as that. Just want to have a place to relax for a bit? Welcome! Grab a Mini Palette Painting and paint for as long as you'd like. Five days a week Palladian Palette offers a two and a half to a three-hour experience with a local artist. That artist will guide you through a painting (famous or original), show you tips and tricks, and encourage you to take painting risks you never thought you had the skill to take. You can follow along with our artists on staff who will be there to guide the stick-figured-challenged, or you can change up colors and techniques to make it your own. Or, just paint whatever inspires you in the moment. After your time with us, you'll walk out with a painting you love, (or in 2-3 weeks, a ceramic piece) and we'll take care of the cleanup." Now, on to my review: My friend found Palladian Palette online and asked if I wanted to go. Being a super crafty girl, I enthusiastically said yes! My friend called their phone number and scheduled a painting time for last Friday night. When we first pulled up to the building, there were no parking spots available on the street. There is no lot to park in specifically for this place so we parked in the food stamp building parking lot across the street. Upon entering, we were greeted very warmly by the owner/instructor (Rachel Gentner) who was there to teach us how to paint that night. We grabbed seats in front of easels and popped open our bottle of wine. When everyone was seated, Rachel explained that she was an art teacher outside of her business and had majored in art at the University of Akron. She then began to explain how the night was going to go and how she teaches. She had us put painting smocks on, and put acrylic paints on our pallettes. She explained how the brushes worked and how to properly clean out the brushes between colors. Then we got to work on the paintings! Rachel has a calendar on her website showing what the painting of the night is so you can choose the painting you like and go that night. Everyone in the class does the same painting and follows along according to her very thorough instructions. She is excellent at explaining what to do and how to get the effects of what is going on the sample photo of the painting we are working on. She was also very helpful with replacing our brush water and making sure we had all the supplies we needed to complete our painting and have fun. She gave us plenty of free time to work on our paintings and didn't rush us at all. Also, I forgot to mention that she supplies the canvas, brushes, paints, easel, etc. The prices vary but the majority are currently $35/person. I suspect that price could fluctuate based on art supply prices. Overall, we had an excellent time and were very relaxed by the end of the night. It took approximately 3 hours from start to finish. I really enjoyed how encouraging the instructor was. Everyone in our class ended up with a different interpretation of the painting but they all turned out just beautiful! That's the fun part about it. Regardless of instruction, each painting is comepletely unique to the person who created it. Although I have prior painting experience, this place is definitely a great start for beginning painters! Do not be deterred if you aren't comfortable with a paint brush! She will teach you and help you succeed!
