There are many types of tattoo shops out there. Some feel like being in a coffee shop, art gallery, or even clothing boutique. Artistic Tattoo is not one of those shops. Artistic Tattoo is an old school style tattoo parlor. There are lots of flash sheets on the wall and ceiling. While looking at various shop Instagram pages, I came across Artistic Tattoo. A new design for January's Friday 13th promotion was exactly what I was looking for... and then some. Unlike shops with long lines for tiny tattoos, Artistic Tattoo's Friday 13th event had palm size and up tattoos. Reservations were required for the event. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment, as I had been instructed to. I was called back before my appointment time. Joseph Leary was my tattoo artist. There were two spots I was considering having the tattoo done. Joseph went over the pros and cons of both spots. He seemed genuinely interested in making sure I was happy with the placement of the tattoo. This tattoo hurt less than my previous ones. I was waiting to see the (mostly) healed products before writing my review. The tattoo out beautifully. I am so incredibly happy with it. Second Skin was used rather than plastic wrap. This drastically helped speed up the healing process. Joseph knows what he is doing. His 15 years in the business gives him a wealth of knowledge only obtained through experience. He understands the importance of quality and customer service. Quality work gets people talking. That talk brings in more business. I would not hesitate to get another tattoo from Joseph. read more

I play women's tackle football for the Phoenix Prowlers so I love supporting local business because many of these people are my friends, but let me tell you this guys tattooed me in 2016 and did a good job. So when I found him at a different shop in 2020, I reached out, we agreed on a price for a cover up and her changed it on me last minute at the appointment it was a $200 price increase after her finished. I'm no one to cap an artists work but it was a horrible dragon that was already sowing discoloration. I let the situation be, told my actual local shop about how horrible the experience/ tattoo was and I was advised to ask him to fix it. I tried and he blew me off because he is only interested in tattooing new clients. This guy is greedy all I wanted was for him to touch up the horrible scars he left on my shoulder from the horrible tattoo! Do. NOT. get tattooed here if you care about quality, go anywhere else. Artistic is the only shop I will go to for my tattoos. Joe has been my artist for almost 10 years now. He is so skilled at what he does! I asked him to cover an old tattoo for me and I trust him so much I just told him to do whatever he wanted. Well, that tattoo is amazing and I get compliments on it almost daily. Easily the best cover up I have ever seen. Not only is Joe great but everyone I have met there is awesome. They chat and joke with you while you are there. It makes the hours fly by. I went here with my boyfriend and two friends for our first tattoos on Friday the 13th and the staff were all wonderful. We all enjoyed our tattoos and the experience! James did an amazing job with my realistic monarch butterfly. He had a light touch, I didn't feel a thing. He's got great bed side manner, good conversationalist while working. He explained the difference between a tattoo with skin breaks versus solid color, this was my first of the latter. It's healing great and I will go back to him for all my realism. Beautiful work! The shop is big, has great portfolios and art work on the walls, and is overall a really comfortable place to be. He listened carefully to what we wanted and drew up the tattoo I had been envisioning for years. He made me feel comfortable for my first tattoo and was very down to earth. I nervously went in AT today to get my septum pierced (the cartilage inside the tip of my nose). I'd been in here a few times before to ask about stretching my ears, and every time I went in I was given excellent service by their piercer/tattoo artist up front, Brent, aka B-Bird. Unfortunately, they don't sell much jewelry beyond your basic needs. No cool gauges or plugs for me, and the closest place is Halo and their selection is boring and overpriced. I usually just order my jewelry by way of the internet now (bodyartforms.com). I was told up front the piercing would be $40 including jewelry. I signed my paper stating regulations regarding piercings as B-Bird got his stuff ready. I sat down in the chair and tried to relax the best I could. B-Bird informed me of all the precautions and how to take care of my piercings, then told me to take a deep breath and I closed my eyes. The second it went through my eyes watered up, but before I knew it I was done. It looks awesome, I'm super excited for it to heal, and B-Bird did a great job taking care of me. read more

Artistic Tattoo is a wonderful shop! The shop has been around for years, and has always had a stellar reputation. I finally got my first piece done here, by Candice--a watercolor style rose with some script. She put up with my anal retentive attention to detail on the sketch, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I got it done less than a week ago, and it's healing beautifully. Candice is fresh out of apprenticeship, and was honest about her background and experience--I'm so glad I trusted her with this piece, because it looks like someone seriously painted the rose right on my shoulder! I got my first compliment on the piece when I went out for dinner immediately after getting it done, and the compliments have kept coming! With tattoos, you often get what you pay for - but Artistic Tattoo and Candice are both incredibly fair and upfront with their prices! After a couple decades, I finally went back to this place for another tat. Shocked to see nobody has invested in anything to make the place or experience worth coming back to. It's more of a dive than ever, which is too bad because it has so much potential based on its location. The tattoo I got is by far my worst tattoo, it's shaky looking, and it also got terribly infected and I'm still recovering. I would never go back based on my overall experience. There's too much competition in the area who do it far better. I went to email them but I think they're out of business because their website says it's no longer available - no surprise if that's the case. I clearly said I wanted my tattoo purple and did the guy listen, NO! He did it blue... not even a blue that closely resembles purple. Oh, and he tried to cover the blue with purple.... really guy, you should know that isn't how things work. I found this place on accident when my car broke down and an employee came out and offered to let us sit inside while we waited for our tow. Went back to get a tattoo priced and left with a work of art! Justin Clinton created a masterpiece on my leg that has gotten me so many compliments. I would avoid this place. They have this feme Nazi chic working there with an attitude from hell. She got pissed because I "ASKED" if I could show her my tattoo (wanted to get it covered) away from the front desk. I didn't feel comfortable with several people around. This woman copped an attitude and kept making sly remarks as I waited. Another girl who was much nicer took me to the back so that she can take a look. While in the back, we could hear her talking crap about me. She apparently heard me asking about her because she showed up in the back going at me yelling. Then a back and forth ensued. It was a horrible experience all around. I came to the shop in great spirits and left pissed. NOT COOL. Come to find out this girl is an apprentice and gave my friend a hack job few months ago. If you want a quality tattoo I would go somewhere else. I got a rib/stomach piece from a guy there, I forget his name now, maybe Sam? I got the line work done in one session and was supposed to go back for shading. It was far more painful than it should have been and not only do I have a tattoo with terrible line work, but it's scarred beyond belief. Now I have to pay someone who actually knows what they're doing to attempt to fix what should have been done right in the first place. No way in hell that I will return for the shading. I met with Sam, one of the newer artists there. he was super helpful in giving me an accurate price, time frame and good sketch of what I wanted. I wanted some lettering done, and turns out that's his specialty. The shop is super well run, clean and the prices were right in line with what I was wanting. I have been going to Artistic Tattoo since 2005 for my tattoos. I was originally tattooed by Johnny and after he had to leave I started getting my tattoos from Hollis (Ex Shop Manager). I was there, hanging out, BEFORE any of the "Jade Monkey" crew even worked there. I watched them go through their apprenticeships. I feed them brownies and sat out back on the porch chatting with them. I was there for the conversations they don't want people to know about because the truth is they are liars and they back-stabbed Hollis. As artists they don't have the experience to do incredible tattoos especially from what I have seen of their work in the past 2 years. (I've seen too many tattoos Hollis has had to FIX because of shity work from Jade Monkey.) I will be following Hollis where ever it is he goes because his tattoos are proof that he is an exceptional tattoo artist who is growing and getting better all the time. This back and forth about who screwed who should really come down to the tattoos. Compare Hollis's work with ANYONE of the "Jade Monkey" crew and you will see. Hollis will come out on top. He does amazing work and is loyal to his clients, his family and most importantly to himself. Wanted to get a simple, matching tattoo with my daughter, found Artistic Tattoo via Google, and decided to give it a shot. We spoke on the phone with James, who told us to come on in they could help us. Once at the shop our stencil was drawn and we were in the chair within 20 minutes. My artist was Tyler and Brody was my daughter's. Tyler was AWESOME!! He was quick, light handed and tattooed exactly as I asked. Brody was just as awesome as well.
