This location is unfortunately THE MOST rude I've been to. They offer absolutely no curtesy when speaking to you. The blow off requests when inquiring about products and minimize politeness when relaying poor encounters with the staff they employ. You won't get more than a "that's fine". Specifically I wanted to buy the products used on my hair at a previous appointment. I called my routine Aveda salon to confirm the products used. I located them on the shelf at this location. However, I wanted to smell the product to further confirm this was intact the same one i remembered. The "receptionist" approaches me and asks if I needed help. I let her know I had just had my hair done at my regular Aveda, and wanted to buy the products used on my hair. I asked if any were open to confirm the scent. She said, no. I asked, is THIS product used in the salon? She said yes. I asked, again, could I smell the product. To which, she says no. I'm confused... so I ask, how are you all using this product in the salon if it's not open for me to smell? She says, "I'm not taking you back there to smell it." Caught completely off guard that she couldn't have found another way to string this horrible response together - I paused before saying, this may be very picky of me... but I don't like the way just said that to me. She says okay and have a good day. No, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way. Nothing! Call the salon once I leave and ask for manager. After relaying this encounter with him, he explains there are some products in salon that are not open, in which case I couldn't smell them... okay, that makes sense. But I relay to him, BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT SHE SAID to me. Bc even that response would've been more digestible and frankly politer than, "I'm not taking you back there"... He also just says okay and that's fine before I ended the call. No apology! No suggestion to come back in, let me talk to you about the product. I'm so sorry she delivered that poorly. Again, nothing! Just apathy. Meanwhile this location is my closest. I would rather drive back out to my routine location... 45 minutes away to avoid EVER encountering such apathetic people inside of a business location EVER AGAIN. read more

Don't bother with this place, order your products online or go to Amber/Slate downtown for haircuts. Their hours are capricious; I've been there loads of times before 5pm and the store's been closed. Last straw was today when the doors were locked at 4:20 but the receptiomost was still there, and she said that she couldn't sell me any product because , "her computer was down." I drove to this salon yesterday to purchase products before closing and was met at the door by a lady who told me they closed early today but I can come back tomorrow. Got a blowout from Ty on my first visit to this location. It lasted through that (Saturday) night's wedding, volunteering with animals the next morning, sitting by the pool, work on Monday and Tuesday... All in 90 degree weather. I straightened one or two strands at home and dry shampooed to keep it nice, and maybe I should have washed it earlier and I'm gross, but it just looked too good! This past week I went in for a hair cut. The stylist asked what I wanted showed him a picture and asked him to cut it just to my shoulders. He suggested we not do that because of my face shape so I agreed. He asked about my bags I said I was growing them out he said good Because you have a small forehead. He then cuts my hair and I could see he was struggling to style it. He curled it. Then asked do you want me to break the curls up or do you just want me to leave them. He told me to go ahead and play with my hair so I did and kinda got it looking less Shirley temple. He said oh I like how you styled it better than what I did. So I left feeling okay about it. But You really couldn't see too much of the layers when I left the salon from now curled it was but it looked okay. When I got home I decided I wanted to see how My hair would looked straighten. Well that's when I noticed my layers..... awful. I reached out to the salon and they're first suggestion was I come back and try and let the same stylist try and fix it. First, I know very well that bangs can got either way and they are not for everyone. Which is why prior to this haircut I tried a shorter look to see how it would look. The stylist (Chelsea or whatever her name was) was clearly not comfortable with doing the haircut. If bangs are not your strong suit then just say so. She kept making faces while cutting my hair, like she wasn't happy with how it looked which gave me major anxiety. I specifically said I didn't want a straight line. Convenient salon located within Springfield Mall by the Maggiano's entrance. I've been here twice and I've been happy both times. Scheduling was a little awkward, but very friendly. My most recent visit was with Angel and she was so great. She was very thorough about what I wanted for my haircut- making sure she got it just right. She also gave me a great scalp and hand massage! My visit was very relaxing, and no added pressure to push products or services. Looking forward to coming back next time. Also- like a lot of salons, they only do cash tips. Warning, If you have curly hair 3a-4c stay away from this salon. I wanted to get a hair cut a trim. To maintain my curls and get rid of any split ends. My Devacurl stylist moved away and with the controversy surrounding Devacurl I wanted to stay away from it. I made an appointment to have a natural curly hair cut, they booked me with the curly hair specialist I believe Jamie. I went with out any product in my hair just cleansed and air dried. He started cutting dry randomly then went on for a wash to finish the cut. After washing and treating my hair with deep conditioner to dry my hair he used paper towel( cause they don't have a single microfiber towel in the salon ). Then he resumed cutting using a fine tooth comb after doing a bit he started randomly twisting my hair and cutting it with out combing or anything. I should have stopped it when I started feeling uncomfortable with his random method but I convinced myself he must know what he is doing, he is changing his method as he gets better idea of my hair. After doing half,his next appointment arrived, he started rushing. His colleague asked if she can help take care of the other lady, he told her to help with rinsing my hair but she gave him a look I think to say finish what you've started. He finished cutting then rinse my hair and start styling omg he was terrible didn't know what he was doing. I ask him I will do it myself try to work the product through my hair to make it at least presentable till I get home. He asked me to sit under the drier. He sat his next client, talk a little with her and handed her to his colleague and came back like after 5 minutes. He took me to his station and start applying finishing product then he said I'm done. By then I have given up ... just wanted to go home and fix my hair. Thanked him paid (no tip for him) then left. After I got home I tried to style my hair it was just a disaster. The cut was short uneven and random. My layers have disappeared the hair in my crown is longer than my back. It was a complete mess. Called the salon to talk to the manager. The manager Carley listen to my complaint, she was really understanding and professional. She offered to get me a free cut to fixed the mess. I refused, cause the salon is clearly not equipped for natural curly hair(they don't even have microfiber towel) most importantly a stylist that understand the hair type. So requested a full refund as I need to get a whole new cut elsewhere but I didn't want to pay again. She agreed and refunded my full payment. Worst haircut I've ever had as an adult. Didn't want bangs and now have bangs on one side that go higher up the side of my head by about 2 inches. The salon was very clean. Angel did my color today and I couldn't be more pleased. She did a very thorough consult with me to help me decide what I wanted then told me step-by-step what and why she was doing throughout the process. She also gave a great hands and scalp massage, cut and style - remaining focused the whole time. Smart, conscientious and dedicated to being her best. I've been really contemplating on writing this review for some months now, but 6 months later and I'm still feel so strongly about this salon. I normally go to bubbles salon in Springfield (which is the best btw) but the day that I tried out aveda was the day my stylist was booked up. I read the reviews on yelp and trusted it to where I really was impulsive to try something new, OKAY! I go inside, and this stylist asked me what I wanted, I told her I wanted some highlights in my hair. She pushed me for balayage, I agreed as I thought my stylist would know best? She ended up bleaching 90% of my hair.. everyone who knows balayage knows! That's not what you do! I will attach pictures.. SHE LEFT ME WITH ORANGE HAIR, and burned my ends so bad she recommended a hair cut? I agreed to make it better, and told her I didn't like the color? It isn't blonde it's ORANGE. She agreed after cutting my hair short, which I'm not a mean person! So I didn't make a big deal not to hurt her feelings. She knew! It was bad.. the receptionist literally also asked me if I wanted to schedule to come back.. so I did, and I came back the next day. (I paid 200$ for this horrible job done because assuming it would get fixed) She then added MORE BLEACH AND INSISTED ITLL HELP.. My hair is now dry/ damaged and breaking off. And then she saw the color still orange and decided to add color to my bleached damaged hair that'll moisturize my hair and even out the orange? MY HAIR AT THIS POINT WAS SO DAMAGED. That she blow dried it to make it look together after everything, and it was a big blonde puff of just dry damaged hair.. I cried when I got home. I blamed myself for trusting aveda and not being patient and waiting for my regular stylist at bubbles to do my hair. 6 months later.. My hair is still damaged but I've had to do hair masks, and not touch it with any heat, I lived 6 months with horrible hair and damaged hair.. because I was too nice to hurt that ladies feelings. But this review is to WARN EVERYONE, THAT AVEDA WILL RUIN YOUR HAIR. Especially if your hair is something you take serious.. I dyed my hair dark brown finally about a month ago. To keep it normal looking at least.. So I'm on a journey to fix my hair.. but I will never go here again and will always tell everyone not to either! Thank you. read more

I have been going to a Aveda for a long time in the Alexandria area, but this was my first time at artistic Aveda. To me this is not an Aveda experience in any way, shape or form, at least with the provider I had this past weekend. I don't want to say her name, but I can say I don't see her name in other reviews here. Which may confirm a suspicion I had that she wasn't even a real stylist. My suspicions are based on 1. I told her exactly what I wanted for highlights. I wanted to match the existing color but with a few lowlights as I don't like it getting continually lighter over time. After she put the partial foil in she instantly went to rinse it out. I said doesn't it have to process? Normally it processes for 20-30 Minutes. She then questioned me when asking if I ever had highlights before. Yes for probably 20 Years and they have always processed. She said she did it that way because I didn't want lowlights. Um, yes i explained I did. 2. She then showed me what she put in my hair and said if I didn't want it light it should come out right now. I said get it out because I told her I didn't want the color so different. 3. She told me the back of my hair was dark so it need three foils on each side. But she never did that, she painted the back which I do not like. 4. I think to correct the mistake above on the color she put a dark toner in. I now don't even see the highlights 5 she did the highlights in in the center aisle of the store. There was no mirror so it was disorienting. 6. I was going to decline the cut because I didn't trust her, but needed something. The three minutes she spent making the bottom even, without touching any other part of my head was not even the amount of attention you would get at a basic hair stylist. Certainly not worth the price. Far cry from an Aveda experience. I won't go back. read more

We move every couple of years. Aveda salons are always a good bet. My normal salon canceled on me last minute, and I had booked haircuts for my boys here. I saw there were available appointments; so I figured I would give it a try. There's not a lot to my cut. My head is shaved for most of it and longer on top. Stylist looked very young and new. She was very nice. And she did okay on the "long" part of my hair. No texture or thinning it out, and the ends are very blunt. I thought okay. Don't love it, but I'll just deal with it until my next cut. But when I got home I realized there were patches of shaved part that she missed all together. if I had noticed it, I would have asked her to fix it. She didn't offer a mirror for the back, and now I'm a little afraid to see what it may look like. I'm going to have to have my husband pull his clippers out this weekend to fix it. I should have stuck around while my boys got their hair cut. They are both teens, and I thought I'd give them space. They met me elsewhere in the mall after they finished, and their hair basically looks the same. Zero style to either haircut whatsoever. Just trimmed it up a little bit from where it was. Neither one of them felt comfortable telling the stylist to do more. I will definitely go back to my regular stylist and salon and probably take my boys to my regular salon too. This has been the only exception to my "Aveda is a safe bet" rule in my 15 years of going to Aveda salons. read more

Five-star stylist, four-stars for salon with full explanation below. But bottom line, go to Aveda and ask for Angel! Whatever your hair needs, GO SEE ANGEL! She is AMAZING! She gets a full five-star rating. I went in to see her a few months ago for an updo, and she told me when I was ready for a new 'do to come see her. I'm so glad I did. She did a color correction on me, complete with root touch up and some highlights. This girl knows what she is doing! I have a lot of hair and took the time to mix highlight color and root touch up color and apply them alternating one by one. She never made me feel rushed or bad that it was so much work. She also mixed the color perfectly to result in exactly what I wanted. I also got a fresh haircut and she styled it (complete with flat iron and curling iron) so I could walk out of there feeling like a million bucks. She's phenomenal and I trust that if you go see her you will not be disappointed. Angel is my new stylist and I'll definitely be going back to her for all my hair needs. I really cannot recommend her more highly. She's so sweet, knows her stuff, and is confident and comfortable with a variety of hair textures and needs. You can check out some of her work on Instagram - @hairbyangel17 The one-star deduction was just for some things that I noticed in the salon. For example, there seemed to be three assistants helping other stylists, but no one came over to help my stylist, except for another stylist that had some down time. Angel did it all on her own and it didn't negatively impact my hair, but offering me water, tea, or something would have been appropriate for one of the salon assistants. One assistant did offer a beverage when I arrived, but no one else came by after. Also, it's noticeable when other people have help and one person does not. That seemed weird and is something management should likely address. These things shouldn't be noticeable to the clients, but it was. I'd be happy to speak to management directly about these concerns. Don't let this stop you from visiting the salon though - it's bright and pleasant, and very conveniently located in Springfield Mall. Their prices are also reasonable for the DC-area and making an appointment over the phone was very easy. All in all, I would recommend making your appointment, and ask for Angel! read more

UPDATE: customer service was on point today! A different stylist fixed my cut, no questions asked. I love it! My hair was absolutely butchered here today, and unfortunately I didn't realize how badly until I got home and looked more closely. The stylist did basically the opposite of what I asked, and I now have a terrible bowl cut like every teenage boy in the 90s. I have cried over a bad haircut exactly once in my life and today I doubled that record. Going back tomorrow for either a recut or refund. Hoping I can update this post with their stellar customer service and my fantastic new cut that I love. Fingers crossed. read more

I am rather picky about my hair and rather nervous about getting my haircut. I heard about this salon from a good friend and specifically about the stylist named Angel. I decided to give it a go and I know I probably drove Angel crazy at how finicky I was. She finally said, don't worry, I'm going to make you look good". The service started with an incredible shampoo scalp massage followed by a relaxing hand massage. I asked if this was extra and Angel told me that this is part of her service to help nervous clients relax. The fade cut she gave me was fantastic and I saw no lines at all !!!! read more

While everyone here was very friendly, I did not love my very bell-shaped cut. I put off getting a haircut for months because I have yet to find a stylist whose work I love (I have somewhat course hair, I guess this is challenging for most stylists?). I finally decided to bite the bullet recently and visit Aveda. While the stylist was very friendly and helpful, the cut was uneven. I called to say I was dissatisfied and schedule with another stylist. Everyone was super nice, understanding, and accommodating and while my hair is now mostly even, I have really dated 90s layers in my hair that I am just praying will grow out ASAP. This review is not about haircut or color. However, about two weeks ago I went in and ordered an Aveda firming serum to be delivered to the store. They said it would take about 2-3 days to come in. I went back in around day 4 and they said that due to the snow it would arrive a little later in the week. I went in today and found out it was NEVER ordered and the manager would order it on Monday.
