This restaurant was built on the tender, smokey deliciousness of its pork and chicken barbeques. My God, those barbeques. When I was still living in Kapitolyo, it wasn't an unusual thing for me to buy two barbeques, then walk around the neighborhood while chomping on to them. I didn't care. Three Sisters used to be located close to the intersection, in a structure that has seen better days. However, they have since moved to a new joint that is brighter, airy, and snazzier. In fact, their barbecue is the standard by which I measure all other barbecues. I think I've said that before about one other barbecue, but this one is my other real standard. If a barbecue doesn't taste as well or juicy as Joey's then it's definitely below great. It may be good, but it will never be great. The best way to eat their barbecue is to get it fresh off the grill. If you're lucky then there are a few ones just fresh off, if not then I strongly recommend that you ask yours to be heated again just so you can understand what I'm talking about. Their barbecue is soft on my gums and teeth. The sauce is sweet to my nose and taste buds. When fresh off the grill, the barbecue has this sort of caramelized texture to it something I rarely see in other barbecues. They have other stuff to offer, but really it's the barbecue you want. It's about P17 each, but I often go there with a P100 bill and leave with nothing left in my pocket.

People would actually line up and end up smelling like the smoke from the outdoor grill, which goes to show how good the isaw is. I personally don't like isaw very much, and I have already shifted to my veg diet when I came to UP, but my friends swear by the quality of the isaw sold by Mang Larry's. A friend remarked that he wouldn't even touch any other isaw, unless he is sure that utter care was taken by the vendor in cleaning the innards. They say that the stuff sold by Mang Larry's taste fresh and clean, and free from that undesirable taste of chicken poop that any amateur isaw vendor wouldn't think of cleaning out thoroughly. I just can't get enough of the sophisticated taste of their Pancit Malabon so I went to their restaurant the next day. It was a bit pricey than the other pancit houses that I know, maybe because the pancit was topped with lots of shrimps, chicharon and egg. I had lunch and also found out that their pork barbecue and pichi-pichi are to die for. I recommend the pichi-pichi with cheese, as the saltiness of the cheese complements the sweetness and creaminess of coconut-cassava ball. I recommend their bestsellers like fish fillet in tartar sauce, lengua in mushroom sauce and Golden fried chicken- yum! Their menu is all made-to-order so if you want to order, you have to allow at least 1 1/ 2 hour of cooking and preparation time for delivery and 45 minutes for takeout or pick up. They also sell Isaw (pork and chicken), Grilled Liempo and Chicken barbeque.

Sadly when Cherry Foodarama closed down and was replaced by S&R, Maya's Delicious Barbeque also had to relocate and I'm glad that they relocated somewhere still near my area. You can order a small or big one for less than 50 pesos per stick. I love that they intertwine the pork and fat in one stick. The marinade they use is superb and the pork is tender. If you're on the hunt for good barbeques, do drop by Pioneer Centers parking lot and get some Maya's.

Pair your street food with some refreshing buko juice, and you'll understand why this is a UP student's standard meal. It's not just cheap; it's actually really good! The stalls moved from the empty lot right across Law to the one next to it. The old location is now a parking lot, and while the new one allows several cars to park as well, the ground is much more uneven and rocky. Girls, leave your heels at home!
