I'd always wanted to take ballroom dancing lessons so checked this place out. Took a series of lessons and our a instructor choreographed a dance to a fav Sinatra song. Patient teachers with a huge sense of humor. Dancing is therapeutic and this place makes it even more enjoyable!! Not cheap but worth every penny! read more

My now-wife and I went here for a couple of months to prepare for our wedding dance. This place is very expensive, but I think their teaching program and customer service is bar none, so it still seems like a good value. However, it's a little... odd that the dance instructors are forbidden to have any contact with clients outside of class/private lesson. Like if we were to invite our dance instructor to our wedding, the only way she could attend is if we hired her and pay Arthur Murray $200 an hour for her time. That fact definitely chills the relationship, it can be hard to tell if the dance instructor actually likes you or if they are just doing their job. However, the dance instructors are very good at making you feel comfortable and are very supportive. They are funny and are good at making you feel at ease. Their instruction program is very good, it lays down a base that spans all the rhythm and smooth dances with which you can build upon. You don't just learn moves, you learn how to dance. read more

My wife and I took lessons with Kam at this Arthur Murray location prior to our wedding and had a wonderful experience. The studio was spacious and very clean. Enough good things cannot be said about how professional and experienced Kam was. When we are in the Schaumburg area again we plan on taking some more lessons to further our dance repertoire. The instructions that Kam provided were invaluable during our first dance together as husband and wife. In preparation for our wedding, we came here to get some help with our first wedding dance. I had been married before and against my advice, my ex refused to take dance lessons which was my biggest regret of that wedding because we looked like a bunch of idiots swaying away to a song for 3 minutes. Bored our guest to tears... Anyway, moving on....we were both on the same page that we needed lessons. I stumbled across an Arthur Murray table at a wedding show and a lovely lady offered me a free lesson which I gladly accepted. We were partnered with Robbie, which if this review was just for him it would be 10 stars. Robbie was and is FANTASTIC at what he does. He has a great personality, is a great teacher and if I could afford it I would come time and time again for dancing lessons from him. He has been flexible with lesson timing for us, thorough and helpful. Why not 5 stars you ask? Mostly the price, and how the sell you on lessons. It is more expensive than I have ever paid for any kind of dance instruction ever. I have been to many studios before, gotten private lessons of all kinds and this place charges a lot. We originally signed up for 4 lessons for our wedding dance. We get that we aren't great dancers and may have needed more than the average couple, but we have now gone to no less than 10 dance lessons and spent way more than we ever budgeted for this line item of our wedding. We could have cut it off, but we felt like we really wanted to get as good of a dance as possible and we never really felt done with the dance until now. We could have also gone somewhere else, but honestly we fell in love with Robbie after the first lesson and couldn't see going to anyone else. After our 4th lesson, we were approached by a sales manager (I would assume) who tried to sell us on a 50ish lesson package that included all sorts of social dances in addition to what we were already taking. It was a pretty hard sell, and while we would love to be able to continue working on our dance education, we were planning a wedding and honeymoon so we had to decline. I agree with Adam H. when he says that some of their tactics chill the relationship between instructor and student. My soon to be husband suggested inviting Robbie to our wedding, just because we had developed such a great rapport with him and maybe for some last minute tips. I put the kibosh on it only because we are stretched for real estate in our banquet hall, but if I had known we'd have to pay for his services I probably would have died... With that being said, had we done it again I would still choose Robbie as our instructor and I know that with enough practice our dance will be great. I love all of the group classes that they have too and events that allow you to practice your moves. Should we need dance instruction again (which we will...) we will definitely give Robbie a call. read more

My husband and I took a series of four private lessons in here to prep for our wedding. Our instructor, Robbie, was great - - my review here is entirely of the Arthur Murray franchise's practices. We paid a pretty penny for our four classes and despite having a great teacher, I don't feel like we got our money's worth. We practiced in one quadrant of a large room. Other spaces were used by other students and teachers. We all had to share one common stereo, so that meant my husband and I only danced to our wedding song about half of the time. Despite there being plenty of open space elsewhere in the large room, other teachers and students casually walked through our space while we were dancing. I found this to be very inconsiderate. On one occasion, our class started about 25 minutes late - all the while, Robbie was working with another student. When we did begin, 25 minutes late, there was no apology or explanation. On our third of four lessons, we were given a "bonus teacher" who was supposed to help us double our progress because now there were two teachers instead of one. I'd bet any money that the truth of it was that this "bonus teacher" was really a teacher in training that was practicing her skills. No thank you, I would have much rather continued with Robbie. The owner of the studio meets with you a few times - it's presented as a time for him to make sure you're satisfied with the services you're providing, but really he's just trying to sell you more classes. On a scale of 1 to 10, his energy and enthusiasm was always at a 14, which was just exhausting. Again, Robbie was a great teacher, but if we were to take private lessons again, I'm very certain we could find a better value and experience elsewhere. read more

Now its going on TWO YEARS and its been a BLAST!!!!!! I had just completed another coaching lesson a couple days ago and I was asked to look at my dance posture in the mirror. As I look at myself, it made me realize how much I have grown in ballroom dancing during my past two years with Arthur Murray Schaumburg. It is not just how much I was able learn in each lesson, but I have also learned to trust in my teacher and in his advice on how I can become a better dancer, i.e. coming to group classes even if it is basic class to work on the fundamentals, participate in recitals to practice my confidence, take coaching lessons and lesson with other instructors to broaden my views and etc. As a kid, I have loved to sing and dance, willing to do that for anyone at request. It has slowly diminished as I have gotten older. It is sooo great to be able to reignite my childhood passion. There are big differences between independent studios and Arthur Murray Schaumburg. The difference can not be measured in monetary terms. It is the whole package - atmosphere, the people, resources available, and the teachers' and students' passion for dancing that you will fall in love with. It is priceless. Decided to work on really learning how to dance as it was on the top of my bucket list. Investigated dance studios in the area to see what they offered. Selected the Schaumburg Arthur Murray location and it was the right choice! That was last August and I can only say that this was not just a good decision, it was a great one. My wife requested dance lessons to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary this year, and because it meant so much to her, I agreed. We had taken dancing lessons over 10 years before with a college dance student teaching to make extra money, but I could only remember some steps to the cha-cha. Therefore at a typical banquet party, I usually found myself sitting while my wife danced with her girlfriends - until the rare slow dance where I could dance with my wife in a side to side step motion or the obvious cha-cha music. However, since we've taken dancing lessons about two months ago at Arthur Murray, these lessons and the many opportunities we've had to attend group dances or party dances at the studio have become our bonding time. We already know at least the basics to 10-11 dances, and we're eager to learn more moves and dances. The instructors are very friendly and encouraging, and they know what they're teaching. The studio at this location is pretty big, so there is plenty of room to dance. Yes, there may be other students learning at the same time as you, but part of my job as the gentleman is to ensure I don't back my dance partner into other people; I look at other dancers or people walking by as practice in leading. Of course, it does cost to take the classes, but my wife, who's a stay-at-home mom, does an excellent job keeping and maintaining our household budget, so we know what we can afford and how often we can take classes. Arthur Murray offers options to allow us to continue with our lessons without damaging our budget. My wife and I also look at our lessons as an investment in our marriage. She's thrilled I can now dance with her, and we have opportunities where we can look each other in the eye and talk without the distractions of technology and our younger children asking for things. Whereas before music at banquet parties meant it was time for me to sit down for the evening, now I know enough steps to dance to a variety of music - sitting down only to catch my breath. read more

We started dance lessons a few weeks before our wedding (better late than never), and have continued taking them after the wedding, much to my delight. :) Maria, at Arthur Murray, coached us into a lovely first dance for our wedding in only 3 weeks! The facility hosts group classes (included in the fee), and other more social events. Everyone we've met has been wonderful - such a kind and fun group of people. To be sure, it's a bit on the expensive side if you want to do weekly lessons, but that's just an opinion. I justify it because it is a nice (and unusual) way to spend time with my favorite peep! Also, there are MANY people who go alone, so don't be concerned if you aren't part of a pair. read more

I definitely recommend Schaumburg's Arthur Murray dance studio. The instructors and staff are genuinely friendly and accommodating. There's a warm atmosphere, large modern studio, and (this is important to me as a woman) clean! Here's a little more about my experience ..... The Schaumburg studio was recommended by the Lincolnshire studio, where I had taken one dance lesson in preparation for the mother/son dance for my son's wedding. The Schaumburg studio is my closest location, and I decided taking some lessons might be fun and personally challenging for me. I started out with the 4-lesson package really enjoyed it! There are also group classes in the evening, which are included in the lesson plan price, along with some "social dances" on Fridays and Saturdays. My work schedule varies from week to week, and they were very willing to accommodate my schedule. I had one basic instructor, but also had an opportunity to have another male instructor, along with a female, who gave me a woman's perspective on dance styles and moves. I know they wanted me to continue my lessons, but I needed to take some time off, and there was no pressure from the studio. I only received one follow up call that I suggested. This a great studio, and I'm looking forward to continuing my dance lessons this Spring. read more

My wife and I, did not have any dancing background until we went to this location. We were interested in learning to dance with a few weddings coming up. I called for an appointment. We were given a warm welcome by Maria, who learned about our interests. We were then assigned Julez, a dance instructor. Julez was marvelous with the way she understood what we were capable of. She showed us ways on how we could get better at our dance. She has a wonderful personality and kept our sessions lively. We took 4 lessons in all. It was a great experience overall. My wife and I are looking forward to dancing at the weddings now. Should we want to get even better at dancing, we will definitely come back to this location. read more

i came to Arthur Murray Dance Studio in order to get more confidence on the dance floor, sense of rhythm and of course the skills to dance with my son in his upcoming wedding. The wedding is out of town and we have to learn the mother/son waltz without dancing with each other. I was assigned Jeff as my main dancing partner. He has been great, very patient and encouraging throughout the process. He has thrown a lot of moves on me, as there is only four weeks to the wedding. I think I have learnt well and really enjoyed dancing with Jeff. He is my son's age and height as well, which hopefully makes the transition to dancing with my son easier. First I felt very intimidated dancing in the big room with other dancers, even people sitting and watching. However this fear dissipated very fast and I could totally focus on my own dance. I have danced couple sessions with other partners as well, which really is great practice as everyone has their unique ways. They have group lessons at night to learn the steps to different dances and I tried to join in whenever possible. The feeling in the Studio is very friendly and upbeat, everyone gets to know everybody and it is fun. read more

It's expensive. We won a free dance lesson. It was thirty minutes and the teacher was great. She made my hubby feel very comfortable dancing. However, the rest of the time it was about selling selling selling. I get it, they are trying to make money. We thought about it.
