Everyone is very friendly in the studio, they want to build a community of like minded people. I'm putting this out there in case others want to schedule a class with friends. It's a fun time to be had! My family scheduled a surprise group class for my birthday! We were greeted with a very friendly staff and offered coffee, water before the class began. The instructor was very polite and patient as many of us had 2 left feet. He made it fun and no one felt uncomfortable. We learned three basic steps. My only disappointment is the class was too short. I wanted to keep practicing (much needed) my new skills. Though they did kindly offer us to stay and watch a group event, and take part in their group ball room open dance. We had dinner reservations and had to leave. My girls said during scheduling they weren't told about the group opportunity after. If they knew they may have reserved dinner before the private class so we could have danced/practiced longer. I guess we'll have to see about lessons BTW there was no high pressure sales tactics. Just an overview and encouragement to try classes in the future. Note: The road to the FADS entrance is on the west side of the strip mall because the entrance & parking is behind the strip mall. NOT by Garibaldis. Some GPS apps mistakenly direct you to the front of the strip mall. Don't park there or you'll have to walk around the building to get to their entrance. Have fun! read more

Super studio. I found them on Yelp Didn't know what to expect as an older guy learning to dance... they are fantastic. Great teachers, super patient, and always make you feel happy with their smile. I have learnt so much and have taken another set of lessons... if you want to learn formal dancing, this is the place. Please note that it is not cheap. Beginning lessons start at $100 per lesson. But that is par for the industry so you have to be prepared for an expensive experience... but it is worth it! read more

So they totally gots me... I got the 1 time lesson from Groupon for $17 and ended up walking out paying $320 for 4 private dance lesson and 4 group lesson. Our teacher was friendly and personable and we have a lot to learn so we're hoping for 4 good dancing sessshhh! If you don't intend to pay for dance lessons, do not get bait on the groupon deal. Although they are nice and doesn't apply pressure to buy, the 1 lesson will not add anything to your current skills. If anything changes, I will most definitely update my review. Have been going to FADS for the last few months, it's been our escape from the daily and weekly grind. Our dancing has improved fantastically and its good exercise. They schedule all kinds of dancing activities, parties, group sessions. I wish we could take advantage of all they have to offer. We really enjoy our sessions. read more

I enjoy my time at the Fred Astaire dance studio in S. Barrington. The instructors teach you various dances depending on your choices. In my case, I like the Latin dances such as Sulsa and Cha Cha. The Friday night parties are also a fine experience. read more

This was the strangest experience my husband and I ever had. We had been talking about taking dance lessons for a couple years just for fun. So, we finally decided to look into it and decided on this studio because of the location and because it covered the Latin styles we were interested in. We were told the intro price of $40 covered a private lesson (I thought I remembered was 40 minutes, but I can't say for sure) and then a group lesson. We were greeted by our instructor after filling out the forms. She asked us why we were trying a lesson and we told her no reason other than for fun. Clearly we were under the impression based on the forms and her reaction that people usually go to get lessons to prepare for an event such as getting married. The lesson was actually pretty fun. We could tell she was very experienced in dance, and her instructions were very good... if you can take a little cheesy joke here and there, we have nothing negative to say about that part of the experience. The lesson ended at 25 minutes, and we were immediately taken to the front desk... this is where it gets weird. She pulls out a folder with a piece of paper goes into a pitch about how we a had to make a choice to go for a package that included so many private and group lessons and Oooo.. included a party. This was about $500(or $600, I can't recall since we practically threw the piece of paper out the window of of car as we laughed our way home.) OR a package with more lessons and 2 parties! And that one was $1000.. Neither insignificant amounts when especially going in we had no idea what to expect. I first asked if there was an ala cart option and said my husband travels quite a bit. She said no, only packages as it makes a commitment to learn to dance.. Ok, Makes sense. I then said, ok well we'd like to think it over, that's a big commitment and we were again just dong this for fun. She then puts on a very pouty face (literally) and says, "Did I do something wrong?" My hubby and I were flabbergasted and looked at each other and said noo.. we had a blast, we just are mullers, and we would like to discuss it first. Again, in a pouty face, she says , "Would you like me to get a different instructor for you?" We said um, no, again, we had a good time, but we're not willing to make a decision on the spot making a commitment to that amount of time and money without talking it over. She gave us a couple more lines asking what she could have done differently and staring at us with a weird pouty face waiting for an answer. My husband finally said that this was getting uncomfortable. (!) We asked if we could take the paper home and she said she wasn't sure. (Really?!) She looked at the front desk girl and asked if they could let us have the piece of paper, to which she said, um ya, they can. We took the paper and she continued to stare at us, the tension continued to grow so we said thanks and ran for the door. We laughed all the way home imagining the manager was in the back room hanging her by her fingernails for not making a sale. Lol Of course we we didn't go back because of all of that, and had she just allowed us to stay for the group lesson and gone home to talk about it, we would've more than likely signed up. read more

I went for a group dance class to try out a variety of dances that they teach here. the lesson was about an hour long with about 20-25 people in attendance. The staff made everyone feel very welcome and they had water and light snacks out as well. the host of the event had name tags to get to know the other people there, after all we were going to be dancing with people we didnt know, it is nice to know their names. We learned basic steps for the cha-cha, salsa, a box step type dance( dont recall actual name), and we also did a group dance of the cha-cha slide at the end of the class. It was very fun and welcoming. The instructors were great about walking about and helping with counts and assisting with forms. After the class the instructors talked about what group and private lessons are available and many people signed up. I would have as well to learn a little more but my next few weeks would not allow me to set something up, but they did have a variety of times and days available for people to schedule lessons. The space was very open and welcoming and they even had a nice couch and sitting area to sit before or after the lesson, or to just watch others dance. It was a little hard to find this location as it is behind the bowling alley in the strip of stores. But there is plenty of parking back there once you go around and find it. read more

This is a fabulous place to learn how to dance no matter your age or gender. They can even work magic with those of us who have 2 left feet. It is fun and social giving you an opportunity to meet new people. Instructors and staff are wonderful. It is a great fitness alternative to the gym, great workout and more fun. read more

My friends and family always joked around about my dancing skills, or lack thereof so when I began planning my wedding and thinking about the First Dance and Father/Daughter dance, I was so nervous! A friend had taken lessons here for her wedding and suggested I do the same, I am SO GLAD THAT I DID! Mija was the instructor for both my fiance and I, and my father and I and she was PHENOMENAL. She has so much passion for what she does, and makes sure that you are learning what she is teaching but also having fun! It is so intimidating going in for a first lesson but my fiance and I turned each lesson into a date night and they were some of the best memories of our engagement. We learned the perfect First Dance that after repetition felt comfortable and that is something I never thought would happen. The most impressive of Mija's teaching abilities was that of my Father/Daughter dance. My father has zero experience with dancing and especially learning new skills like this. She was so patient with us and when my dad got discouraged, she always took a minute to make sure he was OK and give some amazing advice that completely changed his outlook. He went in feeling nervous and uncomfortable and by the final dance lesson we were laughing and he felt more confident than I have ever seen! We are so excited to share our dances and impress our family and friends and that is all thanks to the amazing staff at Fred Astaire in Hoffman Estates and to Mija! Everyone was so welcoming and Serina at the front desk was always such a delight and made sure we had our lessons scheduled and were always informed of upcoming events.
