The newest offering is a yoga/Pilates class for adults. My daughter has taken lessons here for 4 years, and all her instructors have impressed me with their professionalism and ability to work with younger kids. (I like them all, but here's my tip: go with Pat Doyle if you can. She is simply wonderful; my daughter took her storybook theater class last summer and loved her!). The facility has four spacious dance studios with sprung-wood floors. Weekends are always the craziest times; the narrow hallways are forever congested. The changing room is chaotic and too small to contain all the students; I try to avoid it. In the past year, McDonald Dance opened a small dancewear boutique, which is handy if you need leotards, tights, hair accessories and the like. The tuition for a 17-week semester (once a week classes) ranges from $130-$235. The end of the year culminates in a school-wide recital performance, at Barrington High School, in May. There are a number of dance camps and classes offered for summer.

My wife-to-be had little experience with formal dancing as well, so I knew we needed some teaching. I looked around the Internet with the desire to have more personal lessons versus a studio setting. We were so glad to find Michael. We took five lessons with him in preparation of our first dance. He put us at ease, was clear in what he was teaching, honest with criticisms (but nice about it!), and when we weren't dancing just a really down-to-earth, funny guy. We always looked forward to our lessons. He was also so easy to communicate with about setting times for our lessons. I got them as a gift for Valentine's Day and he even created custom 'coupons' I could give to my wife. When the big day came, we were confident and ready for our dance. We got a lot of compliments on our skills (all my family and friends who know me well were pretty surprised). We learned so much! Now whenever we're out at a bar or something we get on the dance floor and actually seem to know what we're doing. What a change! Thank you Michael.

We were greeted with a very friendly staff and offered coffee, water before the class began. The instructor was very polite and patient as many of us had 2 left feet. He made it fun and no one felt uncomfortable. We learned three basic steps. My only disappointment is the class was too short. I wanted to keep practicing (much needed) my new skills. Though they did kindly offer us to stay and watch a group event, and take part in their group ball room open dance. We had dinner reservations and had to leave. My girls said during scheduling they weren't told about the group opportunity after. If they knew they may have reserved dinner before the private class so we could have danced/practiced longer. I guess we'll have to see about lessons BTW there was no high pressure sales tactics. Just an overview and encouragement to try classes in the future.
