The Artex team is professional, precise and very good at what they do. They came out for a quote quickly and booked us shortly after agreeing to the scope. We have white oak floors with a very unique finish. They were damaged and several boards required replacing in addition to matching. We were worried that matching the rest of the house would be difficult because of the unique finish, but the Artex team had no troubles at all. The preparation to keep the rest of our house clean was greatly appreciated and the care that was shown to us and our house was nice. The finished product was very impressive and Raul and Raul (the two guys that did the work) were very knowledgable, personable and respectful. The floors look better than ever and should we ever need wood floor help again, I'll be reaching out to Artex. I highly recommend. read more

This is an extraordinary company, which delivers exceptional work and customer service. We live in a custom built, ground-up modern home with very unique wood flooring. We had an enormous leak throughout the kitchen (due to human error!) and the work required to repair and restore the floor was extremely complicated. Art did the flooring in my 1000 sq ft shop in downtown Oakland. It was a tricky job because there was some existing unfinished flooring that he needed to blend in. I also was in a rush to open my doors and he did a fantastic job with short notice and the quality of work is impeccable. (If you see the flooring around the pipes in my spaces, it's a thing of artistry). He did a fantastic job blending the stains so it was just the color I wanted and I get compliments on the flooring all the time. I would definitely recommend him to anyone. odd. he was 10 mins late to the estimate appt. no pad, no card, no tape measure, no pen. he looked at the job, described it with complications no other business described, we had 4 other estimates in two day period, and said he could streamline the difficult, multi faceted, hard to do process. I had to ask twice for the cost, which was 2.85% higher than my most expensive bid of 4..... wow. just wow. I'm super surprised. I won't be following up so I have no idea the credibility of this business. by the way, the job was a small office floor, sand and refinish original floors, which have been carpeted for last 25-30 years. the room is tiny and he wanted almost $3K. read more

The contractor who is doing our major remodel turned me on to Artex Flooring because their price was so good. Turns out they do awsome work. I thought I wasn't going to like the pre-finished flooring but we used narrower pieces which came out looking similar to older oak boards. What's great is there's no mess, smell or waiting -- as soon as it was laid, we moved right back in. When Art installed high quality pre-finished oak in my dining room, he cut the original Edwardian baseboard and fit the new boards under it so that the baseboard. didn't have to be removed and/or replaced. That saved us a lot of hassle and money. He also refinished the adjascent worn oak floor in the kitchen to match the dining room so that both floors looks almost the same. My partner downstairs had new hardwood installed in the new construction extension and all his existing oak floors refinished with a dark stain so that everything matches. Beautiful job. Definately get a bid from them before you decide. read more

Art replaced carpet with hardwood for me in two rooms in mid 2014. Overall he did an excellent job. I had concerns about sound and Art was extremely knowledgeable and gave me consistent good advice (which I could verify online) on how to reduce impact sounds transmitted by hardwood to my downstairs neighbor. Getting sustainably harvested hardwood was surprisingly difficult in San Francisco (I looked into doing this myself and there was limited choice and a bunch of salespeople who were less helpful than you'd expect). Doing my own work here helped me choose the wood I wanted, but Art could source it fast and at reasonable cost. I did the finishing of the floors myself, and Art was also extremely helpful with advice on this too, even though he had no financial incentive at this stage: he really gives the impression of caring for his work. He was not the cheapest offer I got for doing this project, but I was very very happy to have selected him for it. read more

We just had Artex install a cork floor in our loft, and they did a great job. Levon was the lead guy; he and his team were friendly, skilled, conscientious and flexible to work with. They finished the job ahead of schedule, and for a little less $ than another installer had estimated. Art is a knowledgeable hardwood floor guy for sure, but he sold us and then jobbed out ALL the work to completely un-experienced and un-professional laborers who botched the flooring in our entire house. He then sued us to force payment of extra invoices we never agreed to: the judge saw through that and awarded us damages. We had to hire other contractors to fix his work, and now to this day I have to get down on my hands and knees about once a month to hammer down nails which pop up from the flooring. This review is for a office kitchen floor done in 2015, but the flooring is still holding up great after 3 years. (Flooring was Forbo Marmoleum click tile). After a debacle where I had to take our first installer off the job, I was desperate for someone who could come in and complete the job and make it look great. Art was the only one who answered my call and said he could make it happen in the very quick timeframe we needed it in (less than a week turnaround). Wow. We used Artex simply because their bid was the most economical but we were beyond impressed. The quality of the work surpassed our expectations. After our condo flooded, they came in with an economical bid for very high quality wood floors. They finished the job on time and made sure everything was just perfect. One plank looked a little off to us and although it wasn't a big deal, they ripped it out and re-did part of the dining room. Just fantastic. We also had our crazy 20 month old running around and they were so accomodating of her toys and need of the kitchen. We just stare at the floors every night in awe. Art installed new floors throughout our Victorian flat and we couldn't be happier. Art is honest, knowledgeable, well organized, and very friendly. He is hands down the best contractor we have ever worked with. Period. He truly sets a high bar. We initially contacted Art after reading some glowing reviews on yelp (of course). He offered to set an appointment to meet us at his showroom. He was flexible on the day/time to accommodate our schedule. We arrived at his showroom and were given a lot of options for our new floors. Art carefully listened and quickly helped us select the right floors. He made very useful suggestions about how different options would wear (especially with pets), and explained the differences/pros/cons of the types of flooring we were considering. After our visit to the showroom Art came to look at our flat. He quickly assessed the job and made some really important suggestions about what installation methods would look the best, helped us decide on transition points, and called attention to some challenging areas (mostly around stairs and banisters) where he suggested how we might best proceed. He gave us a breakdown of next steps, and an idea of the duration of the job. The quote came via email shortly after his visit. The price and schedule were exactly as he explained in person; there were no surprises. The quote was very fair, and the schedule very reasonable. In all the job - which would include ordering material, demolition and removal of the old floors, installation, and clean up - would take only about four weeks start to finish. We accepted the proposal and set a start date. Art began the work on time. His crew arrived exactly when he said they would, they took exactly as long as he said they would, and the did the job exactly as he said they would. His crews were respectful to the neighbors, and helped accommodate complicated parking arrangements. They communicated progress regularly, and brought up issues and questions as they arose. This seems like rudimentary stuff, but we have had so so so many experiences to the contrary with other contractors. These guys are total pros. Art finished the job on time and on budget. Everything happened just as he said it would. Even months after the job completion Art has been very responsive to questions. We wouldn't hesitate to use Art again, and recommend him without question to anyone. read more

We had a problem with the previous floor installer (he botched the entire job) and Artex "came to the rescue" - in a very short time they helped us with selecting the replacement floor, being on top of the delivery and performed a wonderful installation. It has been now more than 9 months I know I have to put a very very good review for Art, and Victor. We had two stairs and an entire room floor to be sanded, restored, and mainly, match the rest of the old hardwood floor of the rest of the house. Seemed to be an easy job in our contractor opinion. After his first crew came, did a creepy and sloppy job - after big arguing - he finally brought Art in. Art and Victor had to undo what was previously done and redo it all AFTER the painting was done. White glossy paint on baseboards... They really did a very good job. Hand sanding edges and corners when machines would have damaged the painting. And at the end stained the stairs and the room perfectly. The color matches the old hardwood we have all around the house. And even though it does look newer, after few months I don't see it any more. I already know I will have floor work to be done in the future. Knowing who I can call and trust is already a relieve. read more
