Traveling in Spain as a vegetarian was a little tricky and we were so happy to have dinner here on the last night of our trip!! All allergens are clearly identified on the menu. Awesome awesome vegetarian place, right in the heart of Madrid. I came here about a week ago with my mother when we were visiting Madrid. We came in at the height of their lunchtime rush, but we still managed to get seated almost immediately. We both opted for their lunch special deal, which included an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert for 12 Euros or so. I opted for their soup, their assortment of entrees, and their orange cake. My mother got their soup, lasagna, and their chocolate brownie. I was pretty blown away by the quality of the food. For my entree, I had steamed veggies, a slice of pizza, a vegetable croquette smothered with (vegan?) cheese, and a mushroom rice pilaf. The portions were large and everything was really tasty. My mother's lasagna was also quite good. She's quite the picky eater, and for her to say that it was good meant something to me. The desserts were both pretty good (I thought my orange cake was tastier than my mother's brownie, though), as was the soup. I would definitely come back here if I ever find myself back in Madrid. Just writing this up is bringing up memories of that meal. read more

This restaurant was walking distance from our hotel and is a vegetarian place. The person who sat us pushed the lunch menu. It was a great value. Wine or other drink, meal, and desert or cafe. I ate a caprese salad which was actually amazing to be so simple. And my entre was curry tofu. It had great flavoring (although I would have like chicken more). We discovered that you pay up front at the counter. Some English spoken here so its a great place to pull out your Spanglish (recalling what you learned in high school Spanish class 20 years ago). read more

I get skeptical when trying new food & new vegetarian restaurants. I almost always worry that I'll be underwhelmed, dissatisfied, or just bored with the selections. However, when visiting Artemisa I went with an open mind willing to try something new. I ordered the Mexican salad first! Let me explain this Mexican salad in depth! The portion is one thing I was best pleased with! It was bigger then I expected. Not only did it have olives... It also had GUACAMOLE accompanied by tortilla chips, tomatoes & a lemon sauce... This salad was exceptionally fresh! I also loved the traditional place it was served in. After devouring my salad I didn't even think I had the capacity to eat more from the set menu! There were two main course options I ordered the first option which included: A Seasoned/Breaded Soy Burger, Vegetable Curry, Stuffed Bell Pepper, & Vegetable Rice Medley. Which was belly filling without having the need to eat! I instantly became full upon one glance of my plate!!! This meal was heavy & had food in abundance so it was slightly overwhelming for me. My favourite piece of the meal were the vegetable rice medley as well as the seasoned/breaded soy burger. The curry wasn't a curry I was familiar with at all, it was not spicy nor did it have the usual tint most curries are highlighted with. We shared a wonderful platter for two that included eggplant bake (Parmesan), croquettes, paella, veggie burgers, Catalan spinach. All were quite tasty and more than enough food for both of us. The atmosphere was clean, pleasant, and reminiscent of healthy restaurants from the 70s with the dried flowers and cracker box decor. What's up with the decor in this country?! Looks like auntie Jill's mock tavern from the 80s.. Lovely attentive waitress is not there to make up for the shortcomings, note for the owner - that should be paid extra in her wages. Decent menu, ridiculously priced salads. I'm not paying for an effin' lettuce 11 Euros anytime soon. The food is heavily italian influenced with a touch of levantine. Either which way very difficult choice for a vegan - it was an uphill struggle. There are some options but few and far between. They won't rid of cheese from your dish upon request, you can only order vegan ready, so that was a bummer. All in all the food was tasty, we had a starter and got charged two portions of bread (four slices, cheeky!). "Suprema" was delicious, "toscan aubergine" is not quite what is described on the menu, but tastes well. All very greasy unfortunately. I had a "bizcocho" for desert and it was delicious and looked home made and was perhaps the best item this evening. The menu in English is a good laugh, next time they should employ a professional translator, surely won't blow the budget. Wouldn't go back, there are much better eateries in town, but if you're in the area you can do with it. I would call this place uninspired but passable. read more

As far as vegetarian food is concerned, maybe I've just been spoiled thus far. I've been eating my way across Madrid for several days now and have been loving it, all up until tonight. The food is as others say- fresh and tasty. But it's nothing to write home about, and definitely not worth the prices being charged. Service was friendly and helpful and facilities were clean. But price + decent food touting as "the best vegetarian in Madrid" I think is an overstatement. Edit: also, who gives out a bread basket at the beginning of a meal and then charges you for it without warning? Tacky. read more

This was our saddest meal in all of Madrid. We were excited to experience another vegetarian menu, but this one definitely missed the boat. So many fried and cheesy items that we left feeling gross. It could be poor ordering or a language barrier as far as the fried stuff goes, but the flavors and textures just weren't there. It was an all around miss for us. Just got in from Barcelona this evening and decided to try out the place for dinner since it was close to the hotel. Must say the food was terribly disappointing. It is overpriced and the taste is nothing to write home about. We had a salad and a combo plate. All I can remember about the plate is the food lacked seasoning, was greasy and everything other than the paella had some kind of cheese component. And yes they did charge us for the bread which we assumed was complimentary but turned out wasn't (and we ended up leaving anyways since it wasn't warm) I'm not sure what kind of cuisine this is. But there has to be better vegetarian fare in Madrid. read more

Got the nachos. Just chips and guac. Good guac. My wife and I split everything so we ordered leek soup and paella. The leek soup was in dire need of salt and straining. The consistency was that of baby food. Instead of saffron for the paella they opted for seaweed which has a super strong taste so it wasn't the best choice for a substitute. I had high hopes after reading reviews prior to coming, but they were not met. The highlight of the meal were the croquetas we had as an appetizer. They were excellent!The complimentary hummus was also good. For our entrees, my husband and I ordered a pizza Artimisa and the Persian pie (which was recommended on the menu). The pizza was just alright. The Persian pie had a creamy sauce, but it lacked flavor. It also had pistachios crumbled on top of the pie that did not compliment it well.
