There are plenty of places in NJ/NY where I could go but they lack the personal touch that Helen and Michelle give.

STAY AWAY from Charles' Custom Picture Framing!!…read more If I could put zero stars instead of one, I would for the dishonesty!! I sell art, and one of my pieces was advertised as already framed in a two-inch-wide black lacquered frame, but it had scratches and wasn't suitable for my sale. To meet my customer's request to keep the same size and uphold my own standards, I decided to have it reframed. After calling several framers who didn't have the exact size, I finally found Charles' Custom Picture Framing. Charles, the owner, assured me over the phone that he had a two-inch shiny black lacquered frame and could customize it for my piece. When I went to pick it up, the frame looked smaller than two inches, so I asked him to measure it. It turned out to be only 1¾ inches wide, not the two inches I paid for. When I brought this up, he insisted I had seen it beforehand and offered no empathy or solution. I was charged $382 for a two-inch frame, which is a lot of money for a frame that didn't even include glass or plexiglass, and received something smaller than promised. Because of this, I may lose my sale. This experience felt dishonest, unprofessional, and disappointing. I would not recommend Charles' Custom Picture Framing to anyone.

Well, it's a beautiful cross stitch tapestry on which I had spent two years' worth of work. When I made the appointment I asked Britney if they ever worked with fabric. She replied, "Oh, we do fabric all the time," which really set me at ease. When I reached the Frame Store, I admired the vast quantities of natural light. Sam was at the counter, and he started our appointment right on time. Sam was warm and approachable, and best of all in my eyes, as soon as he saw my tapestry, he appreciated its value. When it came time for selections and choices, Sam offered helpful and clear explanations. He pointed to examples of fabric framing within the store, which were all clean and flat and presented beautifully. He pointed out different types of glass which would protect the delicate fabric. He had his own opinions led by experience, but he was not too pushy. This is not an inexpensive proposition, but I got excellent results for the price I paid. His estimate of the piece's completion was spot on: it was complete in a timely manner, and the finish is absolutely impeccable. I am so happy with the work. I would recommend Frame Store to anyone.

Steven and Kyle are exceptional at what they do. They are welcoming, thoughtful, creative, patient, and passionate, and every job I've brought to them (many), they've executed with intelligence, inspiration, and precision. This is not a frame-by-numbers type store. They treat you like family and work with you on your ideas to come out with the best possible finished product. I've come to them with everything from simple framing jobs to elaborate, 3D, special design projects, and I could not be more pleased with how they've all turned out. One project involved a very important, one-of-a-kind personal document (a signed script with a smudge on it) that I was nervous to let out of my sight -- they handled it with utmost care as if it were their own and were even able to clean out the smudge and make it look brand new again! And they are quite well-priced, to boot. There's no losing here. I highly recommend giving Steven a call or walking in his door for your next frame job. You might run into me bringing him my next project.

She works with this frame shop regularly, and I got a hefty discount thanks to that relationship. I met Ayn at Art Services, where the framer already had the lithograph laid out, with a game plan prepared for the job. He recommended a light wood frame, which was perfect, and walked me through the different glass options. I went with some expensive museum quality glass and I honestly think it was worth it. One of our first friends to see the lithograph immediately commented on the glass, which looks almost invisible and lets the colors of the piece come through unobstructed. There was no sly upsell energy from the people here. In fact, when I asked about a painting I had at home, they recommended against framing it because it had an interesting border. Art Services specializes in framing art, and this was apparent from the enormous number of pieces around the shop, waiting to be framed. I kind of felt like I was visiting a gallery. I even saw another Ruscha. The job took two weeks, shorter than I'd expected. I got an email letting me know my piece was ready, and when I went to pick it up, someone ran it out to me outside so I didn't have to deal with parking. (Art Services has parking, but only a couple of spots.) The whole process was super easy and pleasant, and I've been quite satisfied with the end result. I'm glad we used Art Services and would be happy to go back for future framing needs.

Every brush here has more personality than most people on Melrose…read more In a city where every "artist" now thinks Procreate on an iPad counts as a medium, Blick Art Materials is one of the last true temples of real creation. Walk in here and you can smell the ambition, acrylic, and caffeine. It's like stepping into a time capsule where brushes still matter, ink still stains, and creativity doesn't come with a subscription fee. The value here and the prices were super reasonable. I came here with my draftsman, a guy who still draws by hand -- a dying breed in a world that runs on Ctrl+Z. Watching him walk these aisles was like watching a monk in a cathedral. Every shelf, every pen, every tube of paint is curated chaos. And the best part? The staff actually care. They know the difference between gouache and watercolor -- and they don't judge you for mispronouncing it. Friendly service, clean restrooms (a small miracle in Los Angeles), and a selection so deep it could inspire Picasso's ghost to start over. From sketchbooks to sculpting tools, markers to mat cutters, they've got everything you need to make something real -- or at least look like you tried. Blick's been around since 1911, and this Beverly Blvd location has kept L.A.'s art scene supplied through every phase -- from punk flyers to NFT hangovers. It's an institution, and it deserves to stay that way. Blick Art Materials is a love letter to real art in a copy-paste world. The service is friendly, the aisles are inspiring, and the supplies are top-notch. If you make anything with your hands, your heart, or even just a stubborn sense of nostalgia -- support this place. Because when shops like this vanish, so does a little bit of the soul of Los Angeles. Support this place -- or someday the only "art supplies" left will be ring lights. Blick is where real artists shop while influencers pretend to paint.
