October 19/2014: Breakfast with my Al. Not sure what the hype is all about with this place. The food was only mediocre in my opinion. I had the Breakfast Sandwich. It was SO ordinary! Two eggs, bacon, cheese. Just blah ($17.00). It came with a house made ketchup that was more curry based than anything. It did come with a coffee which was good. I also had a garlic/herb scone, it was good but again not spectacular. The service was good but kinda slow. Very loud as it's causal self-serve seating. Here's the kicker...if you want jam for your toast...it's $1.50 EXTRA! This is over not a do over in my opinion.

My first time here. Walked in sunday morning the place was full. You can scan a code for 90min free parking. Just bring your plate number. You need to scan a QR code and enter information. We gave our name to the hostess. About a 30 minutes wait, there was two couples and a family before us. On sunday only the breakfast and not sandwich menu is available. I always get the the same thing for breakfast eggs and becon. The candied becon was amazing, the beans... really not for me not sweet or salty. Lacking flavour. My boyfriend received is plate cold. They might had forgot to put under the light or It was ready before mine. I got a side of mayo (extra) was a little over $55 for both plates, mayo and tips. You pay before you sit down you give your number of table. They have a great selection of to go meal that look amazing. I also saw they had a maple vanilla latte that I wanted to try. But didn't want to have coffee past twelve. Next time it is. Overall happy with my experience.

A must visit when in Ottawa! From my fall trip to Ottawa/Gatineau back in October, it was a coincidence that this spot was right in the neighborhood of where my friend was staying at! I am glad I made the pit stop for this bakery as I wish I had visited back in my university days at Carleton U! Known for their pastries and brunch menu, Art-Is-In Bakery always focuses on quality and rustic charm in all their menu items from their croissants to Eggs Benedict! I can't wait to go back again!

lost in Wakefield pizza

I had a pizza so good that I'm genuinely mad now because I know no other pizza will be as good. lost in Wakefield had caramelized onions, mushrooms, basil, pork-fennel sausage. there wasn't that much sausage but I'm not even upset about it because the pizza was so good. only 4 stars because I didn't know a small pizza could cost this much ($29) ordered for take out so no comments on service or ambiance

We come to Ottawa about once a year and never knew this place existed until it was featured on the Food Network. Expectations were high and Art Is In delivered! We dined in on Saturday morning and although the place was busy, there was lots of place to sit since the outdoor terrace can accomodate a lot people. All menu options were online so we already knew what we wanted - we tried the "fatty spuddy" breakfast sandwich which has an egg, bacon, a giant hasbrown patty in an english muffin served with house ketchup and hollandaise sauce. My partner got the eggs bene and avocado plate. The portions are generous and filling, I did not expect my sandwich to be this giant. We also got to try their famous O towner pastries which are a cross between a donut and a croissant, filled with pastry cream, a giant mushy chocolate cookie and a raspberry bar. Everything we tried was delicious and unique. I love that everything is truly made from scratch, the ketchup and even the bacon are prepared in house - it doesn't get any better. A must visit if you love pastries, breads and want a satisfying, high quality breakfast. I know they also make pizzas for lunch and those looked equally amazing. I would definitely come back.

Vanilla berry custard & Coffee chocolate O-towner

The O-towners here...they were heavenly, an indulgence, a tower of croissanty airy crunchy sugary texture! And the filling! It was perfect with the amount and sweetness so it's not overbearing on the pastry itself! We went first thing in the morning (bc they sell out quick!) and snagged 2 O-towners. One with a Coffee chocolate pudding filling & the other had a Vanilla berry custard. Both were 5/5 amazing! I loved that the berry one had real smashed berries mixed into the custard. We also had a sticky bun which was good, but not mind blowing.

Still a great spot to pickup bread and lunch. They have a lot of seats inside for indoor dining, but gets very busy during the lunch hours. Pizza is amazing and surprisingly big. Burger is juicy, beefy and also very good. They do need to add pizza to their online ordering... Because it does take a bit to order in person and wait for the pizza to come out.

I came up to Ottawa from Rochester, NY with some friends and of all of our meals, breakfast-dinner, this was our favorite. I never heard of Art is in Bakery, but I read that I could not get breakfast in Ottawa without coming here. My friends and I arrived about 5 mins after opening and the line was already out the door. I got a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant and the hazelnut O-towner doughnut. The breakfast sandwich was divine! The croissant was light and buttery and the bacon was sweet, salty, and crispy. I did not expect to be so blown away by the O-towner doughnut. It was light and airy and the filling was perfect. It had just the right level of sweetness without overpowering the doughnut. We initially sat outside because it was beautiful out, but we were constantly being swarmed by bees, so we ended up sitting inside. Despite that, the bakery looked lovely inside. It was really artsy with a lot of nice work on the walls. Overall, Art is in Bakery is a wonderful establishment with lovely workers and my friends and I continue to talk about how we would take a day trip to Ottawa anytime to enjoy this place again!

You cannot brunch in Ottawa without coming here. It is not easy to get to without a car, but well loved by locals with extensive seating available indoors and picnic bench style outdoors. The menu is very extensive and at times overwhelming with burgers, brunch items, burgers, and exceptional pizza. They even have unique items like Croque Monsieur for the prententious friend that wants to be fancy when you are eating a brunch burger. The burgers are HUGE and you surprise yourself that you can hold it in your hands some days. There are many items for the friends with a low appetite or someone who is not hungry. They have a huge selection of freshly baked breads and the Cronut is to die for with seasonal flavors. All the items have generous portions. The only downside is the take home aisle that is really overpriced and a bit of a scam. They have jars for ready to make cookies, or unbaked cinnamon rolls, or pints of ice cream for the $15-$25 range which I find to be a bit uncomfortable pricing wise for items you then have to prepare yourself... If you stay away from the overpriced items, you are in for a one of a kind treat!

We cruised into this funky, industrial boulangerie for brunch on a rainy Thursday, café style and loved it! The space: outdoor terrace with picnic tables and plenty of indoor tables or bar seating. Place your order at the counter for quick delivery at your dedicated/numbered table. Bonus specialties: phenomenal breads, creative and tradition baked pastries. Home to the famous O-Towner croissant-doughnut stuffed with kiwi/lime or banana/chocolate custard. The food: As the plates were set, the lovely aeromatic scent of fresh herbs tickled my curiosity! Fresh dill, rosemary and parley were found tossed with the crispy golden fries served with the Big K burger-which tasted like an elevated version of a BMac! The eggs Benny with amazing, crispy smoked bacon, served with a potato cake and tomato chutney style ketchup was a fun mixture of dynamite flavors. The lovely, light roast from Wakefield, Quebec @bluebarn coffee is found at the self-serve bar. (As a coffee lover, this delicate brew makes the perfect second, third or fourth cup ) Absolutely worth trying!

Never disappointed in this place. Hot Honey Crispy Chicken is my go to here and it maybe the best chicken burger I've ever had. So flavourful. Also got the kids burger and fries and the Brunch Burger. Always so good. They have teamed up with Local Lager to have beer on tap.

Came back for the pizza nights, which only happen on week nights and it was pretty smokey inside. It was busy but we got a table within 20 minutes or so. The pizza was good, but each pizza was like ~40 dollars. It was a fun night out with friends but probably not my go to place for pizza. If you're looking for a traditional pizza, this isn't it. But they do have some cool wacky pizzas like spaghetti and meatballs on pizza.

O tower - black currant
Farheen S.

When I was in Ottawa I saw the rave reviews for Art is In so I had to go. We passed by for some morning pastries. After seeing the lunch and dinner menu, I wish we had come by for a meal! Their pizza looked delicious on the menu. We picked up a few pastries: almond croissant, butter croissant and their famous O tower (black currant flavour). The o tower is essentially a Cronut .... But a HUGE cronut!! And a perfect one at that. I wish I wasn't eating this in the car so I could get a picture of the cross section because it was immaculate. The lamination on the croissants was also impressive and they definitely achieved that crispy exterior and flaky interior. I'd definitely go back on my next trip through.

The cakes and muffins are moist and tasty, but on the oily/greasy side and very sweet. The cookies are also tasty, but very rich and full of butter, and also very sweet. I know that "real baking" is full of sugar and fat, and this is how most people like it, but I personally prefer reduced-fat and reduced-sugar baking, lol. That being said, I can still appreciate full-fat and full-sugar baked goods, haha. They are a nut-free bakery, so if you are allergic to nuts, you need not worry about eating items here. And their (nut-free) carrot cake is really good! If I recall correctly, they put pineapple in it, yum! I didn't even miss the walnuts. The bakery is pretty and they have lots of ready to go cakes so you can pick one up last minute if you have to. Obviously you can also pre-order if you want something specific, but they do have a good selection of readymade cakes. Staff are friendly. Street parking only.

I was in the mood for a Sfogliatella (lobster tail pastry), so my husband and I went to Little Italy to get one. Pasticceria Gelateria Italiana has been around since 1979, but I had never been there before. They had a large selection of desserts and gelato. We took our pastry to-go, but they have some seating both indoors and on their raised front patio and street-level side patio. The Sfogliatella was $7.49 which is the most I've ever paid for this pastry. Fortunately, it was delicious. Very crispy and flakey on the outside and softer on the inside with a generous amount of cream. I prefer the ricotta cheese filling slightly more, but I like the cream filling too. It was light and airy and not too sweet. Service was efficient and pleasant. The shop has a one way flow, you enter one door and you follow the arrows and exit a different door. The area to wait for service is narrow, so this process prevents congestion and crowding. I like it. Great for the occasional treat, but a bit too spendy for me. (77)

I got 2 Portuguese egg tarts (Pasteis de Nata) $2.50 each, 2 cannoli $3.50 each and a cream filled horn pastry $3.50. I didn't like that none of the items had prices listed anywhere, so I had to ask how much everything was. The egg tarts were not fresh, as the pastry was all soft and chewy. The filling was sweet, rich and smooth though. I love Portuguese egg tarts for their flakey pastry with that crispiness to them when they are fresh, and I did not get that here. The cannoli fortunately were not soft nor soggy, but rather crunchy, despite being prefilled. The shell was a bit too dense and oily tasting for liking though. However, the filling was tasty. The cream horn was filled with a smooth custard, which I enjoyed, but I didn't really like the dry crumbly pastry. Overall, I enjoyed the fillings of the items I bought, but not the pastry. Service was neutral. I don't think they take credit cards because when I went to pay by credit, the man asked me if I had debit instead. The bakery is co-located with Syrian Kitchen. I saw some falafels and rice on display, as well as various dips and spreads in the fridge. No parking lot. Street parking only.

Now also known as SYRIAN KITCHEN (says on their new business cards)…read more Based on what I have overheard and read, this place is now owned and operated by Syrian families, employing some recent refugees. They have retained the Portuguese name and products from working with the previous co-owner. This is currently the only place you can get Syrian falafel in town. They gave me and my partner each a sample falafel to try - the falafels were flavourful, crispy on the outside and moist inside. I liked it much better than a lot of other falafels in town!!! $0.65 each if you were to buy. Looks like they are made to order, or the pre-made ones are within the hour and fresh. We tried the Syrian falafel wrap ($6) and Beef steak sandwich ($7) and both were delicious. Don't expect the food to come super fast like other shawarma-type places because they don't have an assembly line. For the beef steak sandwich, they sauteed mushrooms and onions along with the beef on their grill until caramelized, which took a while, but it tasted so homey and fresh. Beef was a little tough but the flavour was good. We got a bunch of natas (Portuguese egg tarts) and they were really good. $1.75 each. We also got a bunch of kibbehs (beef croquettes) - which I have just reheated and am eating right now on Day #2 - and they are flavourful and still juicy inside even after reheating. 5/5 would buy again. And of course we got extra Syrian falafels to go....because they're so good and we eat them like cookies (except healthier...I think). Lovely people, homey food at very reasonable prices. Cannot wait to come back again.

How do they not know or keep things on their menu in stock? Oh well, they had the bubbly so it was okay. For food we ordered a pastry and a croissant sandwich. The biscotti and pastry were delicious. For some reason, they decided to panini press the croissant sandwich. What the heck, who would do that? Why didn't they ask? Tasty sandwich, but completely ruined due to crushing the croissant. We were expecting it to come straight out of the case and at most maybe microwaved to warm it, not just destroyed in a panini press. Cool vibes, nice atmosphere, food is good, tea menu looks amazing.
