I've been purchasing my glasses, sunglasses and contact lenses here for over ten years. You can get an eye exam on site and the optometrist is excellent. He is thorough in his exam and insightful. I like the range of glasses and sunglasses and appreciate the optician's input on what looks good and what doesn't. The price range is wide, you could go plain or designer, to fit your budget. I've been very happy with Art Face and have often recommended it to friends and family throughout the years. read more

Friendly and helpful. Taking the time to have my children try many frames and adjusting as needed. Will return if we need glasses again.

This place is SO good for snagging a good deal on sunglasses or frames! Just be smart with the bargaining *wink*! It's safe to say that only ONE of the staff members speak fluent English. Although, I have never spotted the problem every time I'm there. The staff still chat happily away with their clients and they understand each other quite well! Everyone's friendly, usually. However... I will NOT, I repeat, I will NOT get my eyes checked here. It's probably OK if you just want a basic prescription. Anything more than that, I'd visit a certified eye doctor. The owners and staff are generally really nice about little things, such as: adjustments and cleaning. If you come in with a lopsided frame, chances are they will fix it for you for free, AND give it a good cleaning! So, that's a bonus right there for "above-and-beyond"-ish service. read more

Designer frames in this Chinese owned optical store. It's a good deal and you should always bargain. I got a couple pair and the woman who sold them was nice and helpful. She adjusted them to fit better and gave me 50% off! read more

Everyone I know has recommended this shop, and now I do too. The customer service is great, bought a pair and they didn't just send me on my way. They made sure they fit properly, unlike other sunglasses stores. Also, I had another pair that weren't fitting properly and they offered to adjust them for free too. I had a great experience, similar to a few of my friends. read more

I have been looking for the right pair of glasses for a long while. I've been hunting around for the best deals, designs and service from Vancouver to the Fraser Valley area. I'm so glad that I happened to walk into this store while strolling down Robson one day. The 50% sale sign helped draw me in. At first I just saw a bunch of sunglasses and almost turned around, but further in the back I spotted a hoopla of eyewear. I'm glad I stayed. Art Face Optical offers a lot of great options, especially for someone who has a round shaped face and small nose bridge like myself. The service here was very helpful, friendly and most importantly honest. I was able to give them an idea of what I wanted and they were able to find me a lot of options to try on. They are good at finding the right styles, keeping up with the latest eyewear trends and making sure you're happy with your choice. Also there was a fast turnaround on getting my glasses, which I've never had before. I was able to pick them up the next day (but they also mentioned same day service!) When I came to pick them up, they offered to clean my old glasses, took their time with me to refit my new glasses and out the door I went feeling like a million bucks. I saved money, found EXACTLY what I was looking for and dealt with a great team of experts. I hope that if you visit, that you will have the same great experience as myself. What I also liked was that they offer $40 eye exams! That's a savings of $50 from most other places. Also for contact lenses I was quoted a huuuuuge savings to buy a years supply of Acuvue Oasys for $165. I've bought a years supply from other places (in store and online) and it's always been a lot more than that. I'm so happy they mentioned their deals to me. What a great business! I will definitely be visiting them again for future purchases. read more

I've been to and used a number of different optical stores in the years I've been wearing glasses. This one ranks up there in terms of offering a good selection of frames, reasonable prices, and knowledgable and friendly staff. One thing I really hate are stores where staff are there to push any frame on you telling you that everything you try on "looks great". All they are interested in is to sell you something...anything. I have found the staff here do try to make some suggestions based on what you're looking for and do offer some candid feedback on how frames look on you. I also like the fact that they tell you the total cost of the lenses i.e. they don't try to hide the add-ons until the very end. I've come back here a couple of times to have my glasses adjusted. They will do that without charge and with a smile. Even the last time I was there I brought in a pair of glasses that I didn't buy from them but they still fixed it up for me. Brownie points! Only word of caution...they do offer free eye "exams". Basically, they have a pretty fancy machine that automatically determines your eye prescription. While I assume that device works well, they do not and cannot offer a true exam because there is nobody on staff that is an optometrist. Therefore, they are not able to examine your eyes for any potential problems. Just a heads up so you remember to regularly get a real exam to ensure your eyes are healthy (I think the recommended interval for adults under 40 are every 2-3 years, every 2 years for 40-64 and every year for 65+). Best bet is to have your eyes examined by an optometrist and get a prescription from him or her. While this place might not be the very lowest in price, they certainly make up for any price difference by the service they provide. That's worth a lot to me! read more

I bought a pair of glasses off ArtFace back in the summer. The staff were very helpful and paitent with me. When the lady told me the price I said that that was too much money and I cannot afford them. The lady was happy to lower the price to an amount that I could afford. I have been back many times to get my glasses tightened, and they have done it free of charge a smile on their face. I am very satisfied with my glasses and would be happy to purchase another pair off them in the future! read more

Art Face Optical has a good selection of frames and sunglasses, for a reasonable price. I had bought a number of sunglasses and prescription contacts, lenses and frames at this place in the last 20+ years. To my surprise, Sun Life declined my recent claim stating that this company has been delisted. So, if you don't care about the insurance, this is a good place to get your eyes checked and buy the contacts, or glasses. Otherwise, go somewhere else. read more

I've worked in some morally-questionable industries/jobs in my lifetime - hell, my job now is just a few levels above tobacco company lawyer and below a street pimp. None gave me any trouble sleeping at night like when I worked part-time at a optical store. The difference between the nice $400 (***INSERT DESIGNER BRAND HERE***) frame sitting in the glass case and the no-name $80 frame? Both are pieces of plastic with a couple of hinges made for a few dollars by the same company (Google 'Luxottica' -- go ahead, I'll wait) in the same factory - except one carries a price tag and a name brand. I suppose this applies to most fashion items - but it's especially predatory when it comes to fashion frames and watches (that rant at another time). Optical stores -- it's a nice racket. Glasses shopping is one of my most hated things to do. Any poor decision will literally be sitting on your face for a couple of years. Add to the fact that I have a size 8 head, round face, astigmatism and the Asian non-nose-bridge - really limits my choices. Many stores will have nothing that remotely can fit my face. My head is basically a fuzzy yellow bowling ball - with the matching same visual acuity. Art Face is one of the better places to shop for frames - being on Robson, it's not cheap. But the selection and staff knowledge is great - let the staff know the general style, colour and material you're looking for and they'll toss up all the drawers behind the counter to find you something. Before you know it, you'll get 10 pairs of similar but slightly different frames on the table - just be careful that the frames you picked didn't just 'happen' to be the most expensive pair. Oh well, at least they are relatively straight-up with the prices - I got quoted the final price -- not, "Well, the lenses are $A, the frames are $B, hi-index is $C, coating is $D, polishing is $E and add tax -- now bend over and squeal like piggy." Looking for a certain vintage look? Lots of sizes and colours to choose from. The best part: they have lots of unbranded Asian frames that took design cues from the marquee brands -- designed for the flat Asian face. Even for my fat head. Woot! After sales support is good as well - they are more than happy to adjust any frames you buy from them and they won't stop until it sits just right on your face. Prices are nowhere near competitive with some of the online optical stores - but I still can't trust proper fit when buying frames online. Art Face is a honey-tongued bunch that will take you for everything you got if you're not careful -- but they have a great selection and I can't really knock their hustle. read more

I seriously urge everyone to avoid this business. I would hate to see someone experience what I have gone through. I bought a pair of Gucci glasses and got my eye exam here. I was okay with spending that much dough because my experience was positive and all was going smoothly. I thought I could count on them if things went bad. They wowed me with the medical grade equipment they have for their eye exams but this should have been a red flag as I would later learn that this compensates for lack of knowledge in basic eye examination. The salesperson was really friendly and I made a great connection with her. I would also later learn that this was all to get a sale and when sh*t hits the fan, things go south. I consider myself a novice when it comes to wearing glasses because it wasn't until recently that I've needed them to view far distances. After I got my frames and lenses at Art Face (~$420), I wore them for a few months but started to notice I was getting headaches, and my eyes felt more strained wearing them. While I was at home in Ottawa for a visit, My mom urged me to go to our family optician and see what he thought. (My mom has being going to him for over 20 years so we have a lot of TRUST with him.) Turns out my prescription from Art Face was THREE TIMES STRONGER than what I should have been given. Even with that fancy medical grade equipment, it comes down to WHO is checking your eyes. Turns out the man at Art Face knows nothing about how to detect astigmatisms in your eyes because apparently that's what I have. Imagine if I had continued wearing my glasses, how much worse things would have gotten for me. This was extremely disappointing and I learned that is why I had been getting headaches and my eyesight felt strained and worse than before. So I got my lenses changed by a REAL optician and had to pay again for lenses. When I came back to Vancouver and told the saleswoman who sold me the glasses, she was totally unsympathetic. I explained I had to get them changed asap because it was bad for me to wear my glasses as they were. I showed her the proof that their prescription was 3 times stronger than my correct one. I explained for 3 months I had been wearing them without knowing the damage it was doing to me. After all of this, she still blamed me, pointing the finger and being totally unapologetic. She raised her voice at me, became extremely defensive and this is when I saw a kind woman turn into a demon all because this store will not sympathize with a human being when it comes to their own profits. I can tell a shady business from a honest business and this place is not honest or looking out for your best interest. Instead of realizing their mistake, they will turn the table and blame you for any problem that may arise later on. I urge anyone to avoid this place because not only are they pricey, they don't value you as a customer but rather see you as dollar signs. And to me, this is not a business that should be supported. read more

I bought frames and lenses from this place then went back a few years later to get new lenses. They were happy to sell me lenses but wanted to charge for eye test. They said better to buy new frames and lenses and there would be no charge for eye test. I said I had already bought my frames from Art Face but wanted to buy only new lenses, so what's the difference, why charge for eye test? Spent 5 minutes pointlessly haggling then realized my business was better spent elsewhere and walked out, never to return. Went across the road to Lotus Eyewear and was given free eye test with lenses and loner pair of readers. Complete service with a smile! read more

I really loved the frame selection available to me. And the salesperson was very diligent. The prices seemed high, but when you go to the counter, Oh, 40% off. Thus began the weird experience. I chose frames and had progressive lenses made for them. When I came to pick them up and tried to read, there were blurred edges on all the text, no matter the size. When I stood up and tried to look around, it was hard to find the place on the lens where I could see in focus. I was told they could make the lenses again, or as they had mentioned to me earlier, I could pay upward and buy better quality lenses. Now, that made me uncomfortable. Why would I pay more to fix a problem that should not be there. It is pretty easy to understand that my expectation would be clear and focussed vision. If one has to pay up, why are they carrying low quality lenses at all? Staff, apart from the manager, were polite and did their best. I really did not like their business practices when I tried to get my sizeable output of money refunded. I did get my refund finally. I found communication with the store manager difficult. She displayed no regret that the glasses were not made correctly. The moral of the story is that my eyeglasses were guaranteed as long as I had the free checkup with their optician. I did do that to corroborate my ophthalmologist's prescription. Hold onto your receipt until you try the glasses for a period of time to see if the lenses are correct for you. read more

I'm satisfied with the service from Art Face Optical. I got a pair of glasses with blue light filters and a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses with the reasonable price. After the eye examination, I figured out the importance of the blue light filters. It is because I am using laptop and smart phones everyday, and it will be not only changing the light spectrum we are exposed to. While our visual behaviors will be also changing as well. If you are looking for a new pair of eye glasses, then the Art Face Optical will be one of the best choice for you. The customer service is outstanding. The salesperson is kind and help you out to match your demand and preferences. You will get a detailed report with the experienced eye examiner, so no worries at all. I like the way how they concentrate on keeping customers happy by taking care of them. A place where you can buy a pair of ideal eye glasses by their reliable recommendation. read more

in fact, I could even up this to a 4-star, just on the basis of the service and low-pressure sales. then again, opticians don't seem to be as pushy as other sales but anyways i digress... Girl patiently showed me several frames that i don't have much selection, but a decent 2-3 pairs, got a few quotes no problem. Think previous yelper complaint about the eye test issue is pretty normal, esp. if you haven't gotten one every 2 years which isn't a bad idea, so it's not a biggie to me. Better safe than sorry; they rather not sell new lenses if there's a chance the prescription may have changed. read more

I've been a customer of Art Face for twelve years and have referred several friends. I was referred from my sister. What I appreciate is their attention to detail, as well as great prices. I have gone to competitors, including website-only shops (which are supposed to have the cheapest prices), but I have come back because of better prices and in-person customer service. I have bought, over the years, two frames with corrective lenses and probably eight to ten pairs of sunglasses. The only pair of sunglasses I bought which were not from Art Face were a French brand not carried by any supplier in Canada. read more

I've been a customer of Art Face for many years and I can honestly say they are the best optical shop in Vancouver without equal. In addition to the enormous selection of frames and sunglasses in the store, the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about specific prescription needs as well as the latest eyewear trends. I've purchased a few pairs of prescription glasses here over the years and countless pairs of contact lenses in between. The service experience has always been pleasant and hassle-free. Having started wearing glasses from a young age, I'm quite picky about eyewear and they were always able to accommodate my needs. Highly recommended. read more

On a few occasions, when I was in the store, I have overheard some of the staff talk in Cantonese about a customer such as that customer probably can't afford that pair of sunglasses or judgmental comments about the customer behind their backs. As a previous person said they don't value the customer and it's all about making money. read more

So I recently bought a new pair of prescription glasses. It's been a couple years (glasses especially ones that make you look good are not cheap!) and I've been itching to grab some although I need to save money. Anyhow, with all the competition in Vancouver, sometimes it's hard to just stick to one place when shopping for anything, but when I need glasses, I return to Art Face. I think I've known them for at least 15 years; back when they had a shop on Denman Street. Their selection is huge, their service has always been above par and they're super friendly (Shout out to Tony!). What you can expect from them is their honesty, knowledge, and fashion sense. When you first find your way in, check out the staff, they're always sporting some great looking frames (where do you think they got them?) I've always been complimented on the frames they helped me pick out. I know I haven't gotten to the price yet, I'm getting there. On that block of Robson, there's like what? Three, four optical shops? Out of the bunch, I think they probably offer the most competitive if not the best bottom line pricing whether you're looking for luxury/name brands versus non. If you're really in a pinch, just talk to them, that's what I do, it's that simple and it doesn't hurt. Good luck hunting! read more

I don't normally post on Yelp but signed up for an account just because I think the public needs to know the integrity of this business. I've been going for years until my visit recently. Art Face Optical on Robson scheduled me for an appointment for an eye exam. I happily spent money in the parking meter. I went in hoping to get my lenses for my new frames. My new frames were purchased elsewhere because Art Face could not order them. The store stated that I should buy the frames and bring it in to them for lenses and that I could do the eye exam there for free - in fact for years they have been providing free eye exams. I went into the store and she was not happy that I purchased the frames. Immediately she stated she needed to charge me an extra $60 for the eye exam. When I confronted her with the fact that she stated the eye exam was included (as it has always been that way), she denied it. The thing is, I don't even mind paying the $60. In fact, I'm sure she knew that as well. However, it was the principal that she lied and denied what she had told me was what killed me. I'm a long time regular and she ruined the integrity of that entire store in a matter of seconds with the request of a mere $60 and her citation that "there has been a change in policy". They have been owners for years and now its a policy issue? The negative word of mouth advertising about their store to my friends and others is the consequence of lack of business ethics and integrity. I even gave them the benefit of the doubt even though she originally lied to me that the frames I wanted was an old model. All the stores I called and searched online indicated it was a new model 2013. The thing is, my frame was already out of order - but instead she said it was an old model. However, she again stated that I could go buy my frames elsewhere and bring them back for the lenses and eye exam. This is precisely what I did. But she was not happy - it was clear in her face. Well needless to say I was not satisfied because she was now wanting to charge me extra. Had she informed me that the eye exam would be charged for just the lens fitting, then I would have happily done it because then she would have been upfront with me - but it was more a scam than anything to get me back to the store and buy a second frame from her. It is sad that her tactic was utilized in the way that it was - I work hard for my money as well. The ironic thing is I had two other pairs of (older) glasses that I wanted lenses for - essentially they would have had to fit 3 frames with their lenses but she never gave me the opportunity to disclose this because she was too greedy. I have told a a lot of people about this store and their reputation years ago but now I'll be telling them not to go to this store. Furthermore, they "bad mouth" other stores down the street claiming that others were/are selling fake frames. That's not a good way to do business - if you have a good business plan, it shouldn't matter what others are being accused of - to bring down the reputation of other businesses to strengthen their own store doesn't bold well for solid business practices. They've lost my vote big time. It is sad that they have resorted to making money as opposed to making their long time regulars happy and treating customers fairly - must be the huge reno's they have done to the store - I can only speculate. If they cannot hang on to their word, the trust is gone. It is truly a shame that business ethics is out the window at the expense of making an extra $60 and losing long time customers. While they seem to be nice people and helpful, their heart is full of greed. I'm not surprised. Its truly a shame - I'm disheartened because now I need to find a new optical. Alas, it is probably time now anyway. read more

Not recommended for contact lens. Four out of six of the contact lens tore in the first couple of times wearing (they were supposed to last a month). Best optical store I've ever been to! Price was great for my new frames and Nikon coated glass lenses. But what really distinguishes this place is the service and helpful staff. Patrick the optometrist was extremely helpful and made numerous excellent suggestions regarding better contact values for me, talked to me in detail about my "floaters", and was very enthusiastic about his work. The rest of the staff was really friendly and knowledgeable too. Their price on contacts is pretty-much as good as it gets (rivaling Clearly Contacts on-line).
