I would recommend Tate & Son Construction to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, professional,…read morecustomer-focused contractor in the San Diego area. I worked at Tate & Son for 14 months and had the chance to see the company from several angles. I began by helping with financial reporting, then started going on job walks with Shawn Tate, the owner and general contractor. From there, I took over estimates and later became the office manager. Because of that, I saw what happens behind the scenes before, during, and after a remodel. One of the biggest things I learned is how much a great general contractor matters. Shawn is not just someone who manages a schedule. He works with customers to understand what they want, helps think through the design and practical details, coordinates with the specific trades, and keeps projects moving as professionally and efficiently as possible. He also knows how to communicate with architects, city offices, homeowners, and crews, which is especially valuable when a project involves permits, design questions, or unexpected issues. Shawn has decades of construction experience, and his knowledge is incredible. He understands kitchens, bathrooms, room additions, and remodeling work at a level that is rare. Beyond that, he is kind, fair, and very focused on making sure customers are happy with the end result. I retired at the end of June, and Diana, who is very capable, took over my responsibilities. Diana and Shawn make a great team, and I believe their partnership helps ensure project success. I have seen how much Shawn cares about doing things the right way.

Don, the owner, was a very nice and friendly guy. No pressure at all. He came out and gave us an assessment and reasonable options for repair. His company had reasonable pricing and lots of great options. He does the work himself on site with his staff which is awesome. They were very thorough in their exceptional craftsmanship. They power washed the driveway and then proceeded to grind off the old paint. Afterwards the vacuumed the dust on day 1. Then they primed the concrete, painted it on day 2/3 and sealed it on day 4. The high quality textured paint helped prevent slipping when walking it wet. It's built to last decades. Don gave me daily updates and he was very reliable. Great communication! It was a seamless and successful project. It exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this company to paint or repair your driveways or any concrete surfaces.

Five Stars for Vejars Design & Build!…read more Vejars Design & Build completely exceeded my expectations. Manny is highly professional and will only do work that he believes will last. When he came to bid…read moreon my cracked 30 year old driveway, he recommended rebar every foot and a half put together in a grid, and then a thicker pour, especially since we wanted exposed aggregate. Because we had drainage problems, he was very careful to check the grading as well as pre-plan where we want the water to drain. He worked with my landscaper to plan the drains, the slopes, and where to put the curbs. When it was time to start, his crew was on time and efficient. He got the demolition done in one day, and then we had the utilities mark the lines the next day after the chunks were gone. The drains were put in next and then the grading and tamping down, followed by forms and finally rebar. The day of the pour was exciting and Manny's crew got here early. We lost count of the number of men working, but all was well coordinated with the cement trucks (4) and the workers doing the pour and spreading. Finishing is extremely important and I'm happy that the concrete was sloped correctly. They even made smooth lips around the planters so that water drained away from the dirt [bordering garage], and instead followed the planned path to the large drain at the far end that was then tunneled underneath the fence to the back drainage system. The aggregate turned out beautiful and they put in many more scores than the previous driveway had. As you can see, they put a nice pattern to the scores so that it wasn't just boring squares. Cleanup was also perfect, as well as timeliness. Whatever date Manny gave me was the date they kept. My neighbor saw his work and decided to work with him too, and I did get referred to him by another neighbor.

We had wanted to remodel our kitchen for years but kept putting it off for several reasons, one of the biggest being our concern about hiring and working with a contractor. We had very little experience with major home renovations and weren't sure what to expect. Our kitchen designer recommended three contractors. After meeting with all of them, Oregon Trail not only provided a competitive bid, but they also stood out because they took the time to thoroughly evaluate the project, patiently answer all of our questions, and address every concern we had. We never felt rushed or pressured, which gave us confidence that we were making the right decision. Once we decided to move forward, Oregon Trail was very accommodating with our scheduling requests. They provided a realistic project timeline, and I can honestly say they delivered on it. We were especially fortunate to have Javier as our project manager. He was with us every step of the way, from the initial demolition through the final walkthrough. Javier did an exceptional job explaining each phase of the project, setting expectations, and providing regular updates. He was always accessible, responded promptly whenever we had questions, and consistently went above and beyond to ensure everything was completed correctly and to the highest standard. The subcontractors Oregon Trail works with were equally impressive. Every crew was highly skilled, professional, courteous, and respectful of our home. We chose to live in the house throughout the renovation, and every worker was mindful of that. They arrived at reasonable hours each day and took great care to protect our temporary living space from dust and debris. The craftsmanship throughout the project was exceptional. In addition, the subcontractors who provided custom cabinetry that was beyond what we expected. As first-time home renovation clients, we truly feel fortunate to have found Oregon Trail Remodeling. They made what could have been a stressful experience smooth and organized.
